"In Heidelberg for a day. We wanted to try some German food, we enter this restaurant already full of people (mainly German) , the waitress welcome us with a nice smile and we take a seat on a booth. The menu is in different languages including French and English which help as we don't speak a word of german. We went for the traditional meals. One of my friends took a main with sausages and cabbages (choucroute) and the rest of us went for bacon with cheese and potatoes in a hash-brown style . It was really really greasy and salty. I could taste the taste of oil with my potatoes. The sausages tried from my friend plate was nice, proper German sausage with taste. We then ordered some dessert: the famous apples strudel. It came with vanilla ice cream and vanilla cream. It was warm and excellent! The place was busy so the service was a bit slow but the waitress was nice and took time to listen when coming at our table. Each of us paid individually so to make it easier she did a bill for each of us... Not calculation to do, so much easier this way. I also had a beer with my main, total cost 12.50 euros. Can't complaint about the price at all!"

Spectacular meal! Varied German cuisine menu. Full beer and wine list. We had local favorites. White asparagus, potato pancake, bratwurst, liver dumpling. Fantastic! Great hosts/owners. Love the building (original). Very reasonable prices. Don't miss!!!

Location: Altstadt, on Hauptstrasse, the longest pedestrianised area in Europe Style: Typical German dark wood but then there 's been an establishment here since the 14th century! Food: Traditional regional fare, well prepared and with good sized portions Service: Friendly, if a little slow, and multilingual

My wife and I visited here on vacation and enjoyed the sauerkraut And sausage and sausage with fried potatoes. I had a heifer Weitzen beer, which was pretty good, but the service was exceptional. They gave us plenty of time in the European way, and came to check on us and when we were ready. always courteous, and always with a smile.

This was one of the first restaurants I had eaten at when I arrived in Heidelberg as part of their Head start program. It was a nice atmosphere, and the food was always delicious. I loved their potato soup and their bratwurst. That is what I usually got when I went here. This is also the first place I ever tried apfelschorle (fizzy apple juice).

Good German restaurant with a nice rustic feel. They seem take pride in their Maultauschen, and I found their Maultauschen soup delicious! Also enjoyed a Jäger Schnitzel (with Fries) and an Apfelstrüdel, both quite satisfying and nicely sized. Service was very friendly. Menu is in German and English. Tip: grab a table by the window and take in the sights of the main street while enjoying your meal!

Service was okay. It was slower than expected for our main courses to arrive, and as a kid, I was really hungry! I got the Rump Steak With Onions. The food was a little tough for the rump, and they put an over dose of onions. I had to scrape for a minute to get to the steak and let's be honest who wants to do that every time you get food. I mean I like onions, but that was WAY too much onions. Also the food was lacking salt. The decor was made of wood and it was okay. Price was reasonable. Service was so so, food wasn't that great, not such a recommendation to you.

Another culinary hit on my Europe trip!! I had the spetzel which is a pasta found in Germany, Austria etc. It is a soft egg noodle pasta with a creamy sauce that is not overly cheesy of heavy. It was served with a side salad topped with the most incredible salad dressing. I wish I could bottle it up and bring home but it's made in house! Washed down with a Heidelberger...when in Rome, or in this case Heidelberg! Unpretentious, we'll priced, beautiful baroque decor, attentive servers and delicious food....what more can you ask for?! My only complaint is that there seemed to be no heat on, the restaurant was freezing!!

We loved this place! Nice spot close to the river, close to the bridge! We walked in for a late lunch on a Sat. It was very busy in town that day. Were seated quickly. Wine selection good. We loved all the good, especially the fried potatoes! The salads were wonderful too! I had the sausage, and the owner was quick to tell me what local area the current sausage was coming from. That didn't mean much to me, but it was really good! The purple cabbage was just right, not over done. My husband and one don had the pork with a spicy sauce on it and they loved it! My daughter had escargot that were swimming in a terrific garlic butter and served with bite sized bread pieces. The owner was do friend...
