"Food Heaven in Liss. How can you not love Turtle Bean? This place is amazing! This place has a buzz of loveliness. Found for the first time by us on Friday afternoon, blissful visit, back again Saturday! OH MY, if we lived in Liss, I would stop supermarket shopping and take up daily residence here. The place, is spotless (even a trip to the loo is delightful , the staff faultless and the food most yummy around. Knocks spots of most places we know. We said to each other on Friday afternoon, on our first visit(see Trip Advisor , bet they do a wonderful breakfast. And do you know what, they do! R is a breakfast expert, and he declares this is the BEST he has tasted in the region, and we breakfast out a lot! To become his number 1 above his long held favourite is testimony enough for me. People here are welcoming, and the owner sure loves to feed people, you can tell how important good food is to the team. If you look on Trip Advisor you will see my review from Friday night, do leave your own review on there if you can as this place deserves to be applauded in as many ways as possible. I recommend before you leave to take away some homemade delights. We took home slices of Rocky Road on Friday, it is SO amazing, tasty, rich and heaven on a plate that it makes you really rethink any other RR you have eaten before (I had mine over two nights! . This place is not just for the weekend, it is for life. Words alone cannot testify how wonderful this place is. You need to visit and fall in love yourself. You will not be sorry. We wish you EVERY success, may you continue to delight visitors forever."

"very bland! After I read all the good reviews of this site, I thought my partner was first adventurous to petersfield. we recently moved to petersfield saw online to find fez up on the list plus Turkish food is our favorite. we had. the warm mixed mezzel plate for two, but I must say for £16.00 the starter found very bland dry nothing felt fresh. everything seems to be bought, then made on the ground. the main course was such a disappointment tavuk sis. the chicken was too dry taste less. the rice was just boring, the only thing I had on my teller was what was delicious the salad. the sweet musaka of my wife was cold inside. it's such a shame that we wanted this place to be our place. can not mistake the service the decoration is beautiful."

"We have just returned from a lovely one night stay here. A warm welcome greeted us and they were perfectly understanding when I asked to move rooms after we had been given a room at the front. I was probably quite prickly, as I was...tired and really didn’t want passing cat noise to keep me up! Prickliness subsided after we moved with no issue. A heater was provided as the room was cold and the heating taking its time but totally fine after twenty mins. We had dinner as well; two plants burgers, a bottle of Malbec, olives and sticky toffee pudding with change from quid. I completely over did it and had to go for a walk at to stop feeling so full Breakfast included and was nice. I’m going to gloss over the hard avocado as everything else was lovely! All in all a good one night stay. Would return if visiting family in the area again."

"today visited my 5yos birthday and we were not disappointed! eating was fab, service was 5 stars and it was also great worth! really can't fail from our experience today and the children have already said that they want to visit again, so they have passed the hardest test. we are a family of 6 and we were all fed and watered for under £60 and are all satisfied. also our youngest have allergies, and the staff was more than happy to receive him. many thanks to the personal that we feel welcome and go this extra step to make our daughter birthday meal something special."

"I was meeting a friend for coffee in the Red Rose Tea room this afternoon. , I arrived before my friend and waited to be seated. The waitress asked which table I would like to sit in, when my friend arrived they took our order...for coffee. Then another couple came into the coffee shop who had a reservation. We were then asked to LEAVE as they had booked a table . I have never been treated this way before it looked like we had taken a table that was reserved when in fact we had been given this table. We were told to come back in half an hour and they would be able to serve us. This is not the way to treat customers in your coffee shop"

"We can here on a Saturday evening and we were greeted warmly at the door. The restaurant was very quiet for a Saturday, less than a quarter full. Our drink order was promptly taken but took at least mins to arrive. Starters picked were...the prawn cocktail, no accompanying bread on the side. The mains were very hit and miss. I ordered a vegan burger, the vegan patty wasn’t particularly pleasant, and was served in a basic pre sliced warbuton roll. The triple cooked chips were lovely. One if the family ordered the fish and chips- the fish was most unpleasant, the batter was thick and chewy, and the fish inside dry as a bone. Highly likely this had been recooked. We were offered a free dessert in compensation for this. The chicken burger and beef burger were nice, although nothing special. The desserts were lovely, and so were the staff. Unfortunately they are charging high prices for very hit and miss food, so we will not be returning."

"Party had lunch here on a Sunday and the experience was mixed. Negronis were devoid of orange slices not a killer but still strange. Pizza and Calzone were very light on topping/filling. Not really good value for £17 a pop. Although what was there tasted fine. Doughballs (normally a favourite with my children) were apparently a bit yuck . I asked what they meant and they said they thought they had been cooked from frozen as they were stodgy. Server was fine. Not a bad meal but not great."

"Have previously had a lovely carvery with family here before, but whatever has happened? Chose beef and turkey. The chef couldn’t have sliced a thinner piece of beef if he’d tried and not a full slice either. It was also gristly. Turkey a bit better and more thickly sliced. Stuffing dry and hard I got the end piece). The roast potatoes and parsnips were good. Some almost empty dishes of veggies red cabbage, carrots and cabbage to choose from left overs perhaps from earlier servings. Gravy could have done with being hotter. Let’s hope this was just a bad day for the carvery and not replicated in the future."

"Went for lunch with 3 friends. None of us had eaten here in a while. Not a good sign when the lagers came with huge heads. My friends gin glass was filthy. Staff looked ramshackle and a bit inept . They said the right words but couldn’t hatch it to their actually jobs.At 1pm they were down to their last lasagne, the pie had gone and so had breaded chicken .I ordered the deal 5 small plates for £16.99 ; 2 nachos, Cumberland sausage bites, battered mozzarella sticks and chicken wings, to share with one friend.The other 2 ordered scampi. One scampi arrived a good 5 minutes before anything else appeared. Looked like a child’s portion and not £10.99 worth. Scampi bites rather than full scampi, one scoop of peas, few frozen chips. We thought perhaps we’d ordered the wrong size but the second was equally disappointing.Another wait before the last scampi.Nachos were fine as expected. Cumberland sausage bites I had expected to be cocktail sausages cooked in some sauce.Nope. Ordinary bangers cut into prices with a squirt of bbq sauce on top. It did have sesame seeds and spring onions as advertised but they did little to help what look like a small child’s first attempt at making grown up food.The mozzarella sticks were inedible. Barely deep fried but still very greasy. Horrid and I’m someone that eats anything (especially at £7.50).No one asked if the food was ok. But then they didn’t apologise for the food coming in dribs and drabs because I genuinely don’t think they know what they are doing service wise. It gets one star for having Peroni on draught ."

"We took a visitor from Geneva a place full of culinary delights) and she pronounced the traditional Sunday roast the best food she 'd eaten out in a long time. We were also all pleased to be able to have small portions with an appropriate smaller price, which is what most of us in our 70s want! That left room for some excellent desserts. Tomorrow we shall return with a visitor from Australia. The pub itself is traditional, authentic English not the make up imitation favoured by chains. Perhaps some people find this dull, but we find it charming and uplifting to go into something that represents one of the better aspects of our culture. Proximity to the very interesting Gilbert White Museum with great shop, also very good cafe and fascinating Antarctic Exhibition) is another bonus."

"Update Friday 05th April 2924. I visited with my parents again (I don't live in Alton). We had the same meals as last time, the Horn fish pie and the chicken curry, which were once again, delicious. My Mum tried the Moss Forest cake which she really enjoyed. Harry is an exceptional waiter, really enthusiastic, professional and friendly. All the staff are very welcoming. Highly recommend. First review: I visited here with my parents a few weeks ago, this review is overdue. We had a warm welcome by a very friendly young man who was very attentive, despite being busy. We had a lovely lunch in a pleasant atmosphere and will definitely come back. If I lived closer I would go to their comedy nights too."

"We normally go to this pub for an amazing roast at lunchtime but unfortunately couldn't go at that time last Sunday so booked for 6pm. Couldn't believe what a different experience this was, we all ordered a different roast and to be fair the meat and most of the veg was lovely but the roast potatoes and parsnips were the worst I have ever had anywhere. Normally the potatoes are crispy and soft in the middle, these we struggled to get a knife through and I couldn't at all as so hard and thought they would give me indigestion. The cauliflower cheese usually comes in a separate bowl and I always look forward to that this time it was a mushy mess on the plate. No one came over to check we were happy with the meal till the end when it was too late. There was a lady at next table who had ordered pasta and it had much too much chilli to eat but again there was no one to tell. It just seemed that the staff weren't interested I could see them chatting away at the bar and some laying tables. Our dirty plates were left for ages on table. I don't understand why it should be so different we pay same money lunchtime as evening but its obviously not cooked fresh in evening just warmed up food. So so disappointing has put us off going back again. At the end we got offered free desserts but we would have preferred to have had a nice roast."

"On a very wet drive to collect a dining table (think biblical and rivers for roads) we were running late for a meal at a chain restaurant closer to home (Brighton) We happened across this pub and tried our luck for a table for 5...at 1700. Not only did they have a table but they had an all day Carvery and had just refreshed the veg. The food is large portions and so tasty! Our kids all had small servings and this was more than enough. The ‘adult’ medium was huge and I don’t think we would have managed the large plate. Puddings are as you’d expect from a local pub. Moorish and large portions. Good selection of soft drinks for drivers as well as ales and beers for the lucky few who are not driving. If we are in the area in future (and maybe even if not) we will be coming back"

"Some of the best food I have eaten in a restaurant in a VERY LONG TIME. Not even joking, the food was insanely good. The pork was to die for and their carrot salad was just perfect. The beef and chiichuri was delicious and to be honest literally every single dish was the best it could be. The staff made us feel so welcome and were incrediblely friendly and the place just really had a fantastic atmosphere. I actually can't wait to come back to Petersfield and eat here again. "a beautiful small bar at the bottom of the high street, the bright bites/snacks inc' burger, wing etc. served with both hot cold drinks. a small, but essential bar also comprises 3 localized cask ales several keg crafts. at my several visits I found the ale to be in excellent condition temperature. Apart from the excellent cakes, I did not try to eat that so can not comment, although when occurring count for everything that it looks good. if they are a real ale/ craft ale trinker, this place is definitely worth a visit."
