"Dukes is a spacious restaurant that we stumbled upon during our long weekend in Sidmouth. We made a reservation for Sunday lunch (they also offer roasts), but opted for a couple of bowls of salt, chilli, and ginger squid instead. The squid, mostly whole baby squid, were delicious with the ginger and soy dipping sauce. It would have been nice to have a wedge of lemon and a sweet chilli dip as well. For our main courses, we had the traditional battered cod and chips and a fish pie. Both dishes were tasty, but I wish the fish pie had more variety of fish, as it only included salmon and white fish; some prawns and monkfish would have been a nice addition, especially considering the price of £19. We also enjoyed a non-alcoholic IPA and a cola, bringing our total bill to a somewhat expensive £66. The service was good, and we appreciated that automatic service charging is not customary in Sidmouth. We left a £7 cash tip for our efficient server. Sidmouth is a dog-friendly village, so be prepared to dine alongside well-behaved canine companions."

"This year we celebrated a truly special anniversary. It involved a beautiful card from the Queen. Due to restrictions we couldn’t hold a party or reception. To say we were sad and disappointed didn’t get near how we felt. Then we had a brainwave. Speak to Dan and Mark and go from there…. That was the beginning of plans that resulted in a perfect romantic evening. Our special celebration had to include the boat. Dan said the boat would definitely be part of our celebration. We had no idea what they had in mind but were more than happy to leave it in their capable hands. We chose a starter and dessert and Dan and chef liaised on the main course. A fabulous Sea Bass. Heaven on a plate. Our starter was chicken liver parfait and desert chocolate and raspberry torte with Tonka bean ice cream. The starter and dessert were served on slates. They looked wonderful and frankly, if served on a plate, it wouldn’t have been right. Our Daughter and her partner came for the weekend to celebrate our special event. We dressed for the occasion and set off for the Port Royal. OMG. We were blown away by the sooo special dining area with the boat the star. We all loved it. Carol and Mark had been very busy. The boat was decorated with fabric and flowers from Carol’s garden. There was a beautiful vase of flowers and the table was laid with beautiful white linen, shining cutlery and gleaming glassware. We were all impressed. It was an emotional moment. We began with bubbles and then the food arrived. We were all in agreement, it was a fantastic dinner, an evening filled with atmosphere and love and it could not have been better or more perfect. Thanks are not enough but here goes… Dan, you patiently listened to what we hoped for. Mark, as always so understanding and Carole, always smiling and so friendly. You are all stars. Chef the Sea Bass was a triumph. So to each of you and all at the Port Royal THANK YOU . Without you and your efforts we wouldn’t have the wonderful memories we made that night. "I stopped by this restaurant for breakfast twice while cycling on route 2 cycle path and was very impressed. The bacon and sausage seemed to be of higher quality than what you typically find at cafes, and the other ingredients were also top-notch. The meals were served hot and perfectly cooked. They had a good selection of gluten-free options and the chef was able to time both the gluten-free and regular breakfasts to come out at the same time, which is a rarity. The cafe gets busy quickly but we were fortunate to always find a table. The only downside was that we finished our tea before the breakfast arrived, but this is because the food is made to order and worth the wait."

"OMG what an amazing Sunday roast we had! Our daughter is at uni in Exeter and we had our last lunch together as a family here. Two of us had the roast beef and the others had the pork, both served with a great selection of veg, roast potatoes, huge Yorkshire pudding and best of all, a lovely cauliflower cheese on the side. Desserts were great too (albeit we struggled to find room . The frangipane with poached pear was delicious! The Fat Pig is definitely somewhere we will have to incorporate into every visit to Exeter. Just concerned we will become fat pigs ourselves ;"

"I went with my sister, brother-in-law, his family and my niece. We went in separate cars and my sister was able to leave her car across the road. It offered free parking for the rest of the day from just after 4pm onwards. When we arrived, it was very crowded and noisy which didn't please my niece as she is autistic. But, we managed to find a bit of a quieter area at the back (though it was a bit dark). As there were quite a few of us, we decided to put two tables together. The menu said we could either order from the pub's app or order at the bar. There wasn't much for me to choose from, as I'm a vegetarian and have to eat healthily because of my health. In the end, I had the grilled halloumi salad with vegetables while the others except my sister and niece had chips with either a burger or a fried egg and sausage. My sister had one of their curries and my niece had cheesy chips with nachos. All our meals included a drink. I had a bottle of water, which a glass of ice and slices of lemon in it. Everyone else, except my niece (who had an orange juice) had some kind of alcohol. At nearly £9 for me, I thought it was on the bit expensive side, as I only tend to have small meals. But, it was quite filling for me."

"I think the restaurant has changed hands recently, anyway we were told there was a new menu. The menu was somewhat limited, but I considered that a good sign that the food would be properly prepared and thought through. The hostess was a delight and...when I had a question about one of the food items the chef came out to answer (it was quince jelly). We were one of the first people there and the place was still empty except for one other person. I don't know how busy it might get later in the evening or weekends. We were both very satisfied with our meals and the cheeseboard was excellent. There are steps into the restaurant and also to the toilets."

"I can not fault the food at all, well not from the little bit I tried at least. Ordered it as delivery for a friends birthday evening and they forgot to delivery my meal. After calling them they didn’t want to do anything about it...as it was through Uber eats. Unfortunately it wasn’t Uber Eats that forgot to put it in the delivery bag or best of all as told even cook the meal. I felt sorry for the women on the phone who didn’t really know what she was doing, her boss wasn’t there so she had to call them and they had basically told her nothing can be done, It’s not the experience you expect from somewhere that has amazing reviews. Really let down!!"

"Located on the historic quay in Exeter, The Prospect Inn oozes memories of travelers from far afield whilst being progressive with its food and drink. The staff were fantastic and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The menu was full of things I wanted to try and I settled for the chilli which was not too spicy with a dark chocolatey feel to the dish. My wife had the steak and ale pie which she describes as “ excellent and meaty “. Our son, who we were visiting at Uni had a beautiful plate of fish and chips which he devoured in true student fashion! Our three dogs may have had a few cheesy chips. All in all a great lunch and due to it being dog friendly we will be sure to visit again. Thanks."

"if they are looking for a nicely cooked, tasty and affordable lunch, about 1924 is the place to go. the lunch menu is small, but they can be sure that everything will be beautiful. the young lady was very pleasant and accommodating. The best thing was that pretty much everything on the menu was either gluten-free or could be adjusted...a such tasty for people with wheat allergies....absolutely beautiful. two courses for £10-95 (lunch) bur obviously we found room for dessert"

"The Old Firehouse is popular with students and locals due to its wonderful atmosphere and great value food. It offers vegan options for lunch and dinner, with roast dinners during Sunday daytimes and a pizza menu from 8:30/9pm most evenings and from 5pm on Sundays. The vegan roast is a favourite of mine it's a roast veg, spinach and chickpea cake served with veg, potatoes and gravy and it's delicious! During the rest of the week, the veggie chilli is amazing, but very spicy! In the evenings it's all about the vegan butternut squash pizza, which also includes spinach and chickpeas with vegan cheese. They're not toppings I would naturally put on a pizza, but it's one of the best I've had, and definitely the best vegan pizza I've eaten. Even if you just pop in here for a drink, it's worth the visit because it's such a lovely venue. It does get very busy, and you can't reserve tables unless your a big group, however there are lots of large tables, so don't be scared to ask other diners to share their table it's all part of the Firehouse experience!"

"This place is tucked away on a road not far from the city centre. It's a proper pub showing sport, and has a pool table. The staff in there were really friendly and explained the token system to us, whereby you pay £10 for 3 drinks and if you don't want the third at the time of purchase, they give you a token to have the extra drink another time. Not sure this totally worked when ordering a G&T, as they are only £3.00 each time anyway, but it does work if the round consists of something more expensive. We sat on one of the sofas, which had a stack of games next to it (and involved us playing a heated round of checkers! . They do have some food, although it's pretty basic. We've not eaten there, so can't comment. If you want a proper pub, with no frills, then this is the place."

"I stopped by for a quick lunch and found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating, even with our dog and two small children. The restaurant seems to have undergone a significant renovation, and it appears that they have a new chef as well. They offer a fantastic selection of fish dishes, along with good options for vegetarians. The prices are reasonable, and the food was served in a casual yet appealing manner, with a freshness that sets it apart from most tourist restaurants."

"We've eaten here several times for special occasions. On each visit it has been the little things that made it special. The first time we went there we took a bunch of animal face masks with us (much like masked ball masks) and put them on for the dessert course. Angela loved it, took a photo and even got Richard and some of the other kitchen staff to come see. It's made us memorable to them (though I think they remember a lot of their previous customers due to the personal nature of the restaurant) and every visit back they have recognised us and always have a little chat. Food excellent, local and fresh. Service excellent and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Not cheap (good thing) and excellent value for money."

"We finally went to Wagamama. There is usually a queue outside so we don't bother and we go somewhere else. This time, we waited, and it was fairly worth it. The person who was serving us was really nice. We sat by the table where, with small space, join is another couple, which was a bit weird. We would prefer to sit by a separate table. We've been given menu when we were waiting outside so we made our minds . The food was presented and tasted really nice. I had main , cocktail and dessert. My partner had additionally bao buns as a starter, which he unfortunately didn't like . We were happy without our mains and drinks. One of the cheesecakes was unavailable at the time, so we needed to choose different. It was quite busy that day so it shouldn't come as a surprise. The food is not the cheapest once, but portions should be sufficient. Main was about 14 18 . Prices of drinks vary. My one was 9 and my partners 7 . Desserts had similar prices, so about 6 to 8 . We definitely will go there again as there is plenty of choice on the menu, but it will be for a special occasion."

"19/09/22 ordered food, delivery was over 2hrs late after many phone calls and being palmed off many times by the rude operators. I finally got my order. Unfortunately on this occasion was very poor quality and the call handlers were rude and dismissive. I requested to have a replacement meal but request was denied. I asked the driver why it was so late and he just shrugged his shoulders then left. I have ordered many times through gourmet peri peri Exeter many times before and usually great service. But this has massively changed my opinion on the company. Now will not be using again sadly."

"Waitress didn’t bring condiments or ask if we wanted any, had to walk 40 yds in and 40 yds out again to get them myself, no sugar brought out with hot drinks, asked for sugar, waitress brought out unwrapped sugar lumps carried in her open hand and dropped them on a serving tray. When suggesting this wasn’t a great way to deliver food she got very arse’y about it, the tip she got was ‘Learn manners or get out of the hospitality trade before you’re sacked’. Won’t be back, meal deal in Asda instead, better service."

"So we were visiting my daughter in Uni and walked past this place and it looked nice, we went in and asked for a table but they said they were fully booked but had some seats outside, it was a lovely day so we decided to eat outside. Anyway we ordered at the bar very reasonable price and then headed for the food. Let me just say this point that the Chief on the day 15/10/23 was super friendly and really made the effort, he even asked if would would like more meat first time I've been asked that in a Carvery his smile and friendliness really made the difference, infact all the staff were smiling and polite. The food was lovely and fresh and tasty, the kids ones 18 lol didn't have the roast dinner but they also loved there food as well. This was my first time here but it wont be my last but as the winter months are coming i will book in Advance. Once again I will say the Chef and the staff were brilliant"

"this restaurant is located in fore street, heavitree, exeter, so it is not in the center of the city. it is an Italian restaurant and pizzaria that has been open for many years. the food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable for the food and service. they can park in the regular on the road, but there is a small parking close to it. it is disabled friendly, although the tables are very close together. the personal is very helpful. there is a series of pasta dishes, many calf dishes, huh and meat. the filletto di maiale al rosmarino, which is delicate rosmarin, is a special favorite of me. they make steaks too. they also have a very nice fish menu. all main dishes are served with potatoes and vegetables or spaghetti napoletana. open in the evenings on Saturdays and lunchtime on Fridays (closed on Sundays)."

"I have ordered food from Shimizu many times without any issues. Ordered a delivery for my son's birthday celebration just after via Uber Eats. Update said the food will be with us between Bearing in mind it's a Saturday night we thought the...nearly hours wait was ridiculously long but understandable. At I called for an update on our food which was at this point an extra past it's the hour delivery estimated time so I called the restaurant and asked where our good was? I got told the Uber Eats app was not working, which was not true. I asked what was going to be done about my order, whether there was going to be a complimentary item in my food. I was told no, the kitchen was swamped and it was impossible to get anything complimentary. I was told by the man I spoke to that I will get off my next order. The problem with this solution to a very poor service is, because there isn't an independent competitor for this Sushi restaurant they can be as shoddy as they want and assume I will come back to order food from them again. The food when it turned up was the worst I've ever had. My Japanese rice was cold, my daughter's beef was shredded and stringy. We spent had cold mediocre food and no one actually seemed to care. By the way, our delivery time got extended to between food eventually turned up at plus hours after we ordered. Just not good enough."
