"This is an incomparable, little gem of a restaurant . Top quality, interesting and imaginative dishes all created by a very talented chef using locally sourced produce makes it difficult to decide what you would like! Memorable experience for someone who is coeliac too. Good sized portions and amazing choice excellent value for money. Don’t forget to try the Appasiomento wine a true find. Front of house service is relaxed, faultless and friendly making the overall experience excellent. We always pre book to avoid disappointment."

"Have been here several times and always go for the evening buffet. Which you can do at lunch or dinner time. It £29.99 a person but you can eat, as much as you like. The portions are small which is great as it means you can have lots of different things rather than the masses they give you when you order a take away. Service is always good, food hot and delicious. Really recommend. "We were shocked when we saw the total bill; the 12% service charge added nearly £60 to our expenses, which felt outrageous. The waiter mentioned this charge only after we began paying, which honestly felt like a major rip-off. If you're considering dining here, be prepared to spend a lot—bring serious cash and a credit card. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant based on our experience. **Parking:** Very difficult to find. **Service:** Dine-in **Meal Type:** Dinner **Price per Person:** £60-70 **Food:** 3/5 **Service:** 3/5 **Atmosphere:** 3/5 **Parking Space:** Challenging to find **Parking Options:** Free street parking"

"Despite making a reservation, we had to wait over an hour for our food. The music at the Moda bar on the floor was excessively loud. The staff seemed overwhelmed and ineffective. Overall, our experience was negative and we will not be returning."

"I liked the pub very much, she had a good atmosphere and was warm and comfortable, although it was like in an iondon gastropub instead of a Hastings place. that is not so much a critique as something unexpected. the food was really very good and we all enjoyed it, with taking out my Christmas spice, which was quite dry and unstoppable. when the staff saw that I had left half of it, they immediately took the accusation of our bill, which was a pleasant surprise. the staff was friendly and helpful and I would definitely recommend it for a pleasant evening. we will go back!"

"Favourite place for lunch when visiting my mum. Feels just like Turkey with authentic flavours, and flamboyant staff; some of the food exceeded what I ate in really good restaurants in Turkey 1 month ago whilst on holiday there. Ask for WiFi as there is no phone reception as the restaurant is built into the base of the Hastings rock and caves. Totally recommended. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"This restaurant in Hastings is known for its top-quality food and excellent service. It is consistently rated as one of the best places in the area. The service is professional and the meals offered are perfect for a dinner outing. The atmosphere is also top-notch, earning high marks from visitors. Although the price per person may be on the higher side at £100+, the overall experience is worth it according to reviewers."

"I went to this restaurant on Sunday, September 3rd with my brother and his family who were visiting from Australia, totaling 6 of us. Four members of our group ordered the fish and chips, which they all enjoyed. The crab and prawn linguine was also excellent. However, I was disappointed with my roast pork, as it consisted of 2 pork chops, which I found unusual. I didn't complain since I was with family, but I won't be returning for the roast. Overall, I would rate the food 3 out of 5."

"The staff were the most professional staff I have encountered in a restaurant in a long time and the food was excellent. It was nice that the gratuity was not automatically added to the bill. This place is a must visit whether you live in Hastings or you are just here for a day. It is a very relaxed atmosphere so you will feel overdressed if you arrive in your best suit or dress but so nice. The portions were generous and service was top drawer. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £40–50 Recommended dishes: Grilled Skate Wing, Mash Potato Parking options: Paid parking lot"

"Our experience at this restaurant last Saturday was quite disappointing, but I am giving it 4 stars because I have always loved this pub and the food has been great in the past. We were all disappointed as the dishes we ordered were under seasoned and unbalanced. The monkfish was nice but was overpowered by the taramasalata. The pakoras had no salt or flavor, and the curried chips were lacking curry and salt, tasting like oven chips. The duck was overcooked and the accompanying dishes were bland. I have always recommended this pub as one of the best places to eat in Hastings, but this experience was disappointing overall. I was embarrassed for recommending it."

"I ordered a chicken burger, and when it arrived, I was disappointed to find only a tiny dollop of sauce inside and wilted lettuce, as if it had been under a heat lamp for too long. One of our burgers contained a hair, prompting the guest to stop eating immediately. We flagged down our waitress, who was genuinely apologetic and said she would inform her manager. A few minutes later, the manager came over but told us she couldn’t do anything since the burger was mostly eaten. How could we identify a hair without taking a few bites? We insisted on speaking with the manager, and the waitress volunteered to take one of our guests to her. Eventually, the manager arrived, inspected the plate, and bombarded us with questions like “Where is the hair?” and “How long was it?” She then took the plate to the kitchen for better light. About 5 to 10 minutes later, a man in a white shirt approached us—likely a manager or security guard. He also asked questions but soon became rude and dismissive when we tried to explain. He insisted that everyone in the kitchen had short hair and wore hats and hairnets. Throughout this ordeal, we remained polite, responding to their inquiries honestly. After some back-and-forth, where they suggested we might be faking the incident, we pointed out that a camera near our table could provide evidence of the incident. He walked away without any further communication and did not return. The way this situation was handled was completely unacceptable and soured what was meant to be a special birthday meal, for which we traveled over an hour. After finishing our meal, another waiter approached us and simply asked “Amount?” which caught us off guard, as we hadn’t even received a bill yet. Following the hair incident, we noticed security peering around the corner, making us feel as though we were under suspicion. On a positive note, our waitress was lovely and very apologetic about the whole situation, consistently checking to ensure we had what we needed throughout the evening. However, for a £500 bill, I expected significantly better service."

"Myself and my partner always drive past The Hoxley and always say how we’ll go but never quite make it. Anyway it was my birthday this week and we decided to go (we didn’t book we just turned up and hoped for the best) well thank god we did. THE. BEST. THAI. FOOD. We actually went to the Ivy Asia last weekend and both said hands down the food here was a million times better, tastier and the service was top notch, at 1/3 of the price. There was a guy looking after us and he couldn’t have been more hospitable, giving recommendations on the menu and just generally being really attentive and friendly. Our food was amazing and we will be back again and again. So pleased we found this little gem!"

"We went for a vegan breakfast, it was really nice, everything was good and the staff are lovely and friendly. One of us had the full breakfast with substitutes: 3 sausages (Linda McCartney), bubble and squeak, baked beans, mushrooms, toast, grilled tomato. I had the sausage breakfast (smaller option: 2 vegan sausages, egg which I asked to be replaced with sautéd potatoes, toast). Slightly strangely, there is no veggie or vegan breakfast listed on the menu (although they say they do vegan sausages), which is why it took us a while to visit because we thought it might be complicated and weren't sure what the vegan breakfast would include. It was fine because the staff knew about veganism, knew exactly what was vegan, and everything that could be vegan was (eg the lovely bubble and squeak), and they had vegan spread. It would be nice ideally to have more clarity on the menu; it's great they're so happy to cater for vegans but they probably don't realise that it's a bit awkward for us always having to all for special treatment and it's much easier and more reassuring for us if the vegan breakfasts are simply listed on the menu. The lunch menu seems to have much clearer listed vegan items eg falafel, etc. Nice place, friendly, would be happy to go again!"

"An impressive warm and welcoming Moroccan restaurant. Set in amongst antique shops in Hastings old town this is the type of restaurant that serves great food and doesn't shout about it. We were warmly greeted by the owner and given a choice of sitting in the main cosy restaurant area or next door in the shop connected to it. We chose the shop which was set up very nicely with just two tables and had the feeling of a private dining experience. We chose the harissa prawns and houmous with olives to start. The houmous was just as it should be and as good as I have tasted in the Middle East. The prawns were large juicy and the dressing was perfect. For our main we had the lamb and apricot tagine and this was probably the best tagine I've had. The lamb was falling apart, tasted fantastic was and generously portioned. The service was warm and freindly, food wonderful and setting unique. Highly recommended"

"Oh my goodness, the food here was D I V I N E, with views of the sea whilst we enjoyed our food and drink was also very special! Favourite starter was the ‘vegetable pakoda’ well seasoned, lovely fresh and crispy and served with a delicious dipping sauce. The main that stole the show was ‘Gurkha Chilli’ which we had with lamb. My word the lamb was so unbelievably tender and seasoned to absolute perfection. I think it may have been the single most delicious lamb dish I have ever tried in my life. Just melt in the mouth fabulous with a nice kick. Popadums were light crispy and a lovely garlic naan too! Congrats Gurkha Chef you have just taken my number one spot for St Leonards There was some drama with the staff but dinner and a show is how we saw it. Nothing was going to detract from the amazing work of the chefs!!!"

"We went for a stroll had thought about booking at Oscar 's. When we got there, we decided to continue with our booking, went inside, but it got a little confusing as we were stood on the steps, waiting. The girl that spoke to us was lovely, though, set our minds at rest. We chose to sit outside, which was great, except that the area around Warrior Square is very 'Bohemian ', especially in the lighter evenings, our evening was a little tainted by smells we weren 't wanting to smell. The burgers were great. One of us had meat, one had veggie, but they were both tasty. The chips were well cooked, the mac cheese was great too. We paid easily, everyone was chatty friendly. It 's just a shame we aren 't appreciative of extra curricular smoking."

"Ordered a takeaway recently from Pizzarelli and I was not impressed. The Margherita had a nice flavour and plenty of cheese, but only had two cherry tomatoes and three basil leaves. The base was overcooked and it had a chewy crust. The padrino again had a nice flavour, but the pizza was ruined by the burnt black base that overided the taste of the toppings. Extremely disappointed, given the reviews and recommendations I'd received regarding this restaurant's food."

"A pub that takes its name from its position at the top of the High Street of the Old Town section of Hastings in that it was the first pub you came to back in the day when you approached the settlement of Hastings from the north and therefore subsequently the last one before you left. A bit out of the was at the top of the old town high street, with its historic houses, quaint shops and very good pubs, of which the FILO is the best and possibly the best pub in Hastings. I certainly didn’t find a better one. Primarily a single room pub, although there is an additional function room seating area for dining off the corridor to the back, but most of the action takes place in the bar room, with its period décor, comfortable booths and interesting fireplace. I cannot comment on the food because I was here to try the FILO house brewery beers and in that respect all six ale pumps on the bar were in operation for our visit, with the ubiquitous for these parts Harvey’s Sussex Best on one and the FILO Brewery products on the other five. These were Crofters Best Bitter, Old Town Tom Craft Beer, Cardinal Sussex Porter, Gold Premium ale and Churches Pale Ale. We tried the Old Town Tom and The Cardinal Porter and they were both in good condition. As mentioned if there is a better traditional pub in Hastings I didn’t find it (although the Mermaid did run it close , or could not visit it (as the Jolly Fisherman doesn’t open on a Monday or Tuesday."

"Wife’s birthday. We both had ribeyes, side of mac cheese, “dollop of coleslaw” £1.50) and garlic butter no extra cost). There are no linen napkins, they only had Gordons Gin and someone had stubbed a fag out on the wall in the gents. However, I do not care and I will not reduce my rating, because of the following extenuating factors: 1. Dry aged steaks cut off the joint in house. 2. Actually charcoal grilled. The aroma of our plates on arrival was an experience in itself. 3. Steaks properly seasoned. 4. Home made chips. A lot of independent steakhouses are sad copycats of sadder americana chain places. This is neither. The menu is refreshingly succinct. Product is good and properly treated. I am sure that anything coming off that grill would be great. Wife’s comment was ‘tastes like holidays’, sadly because good steak, properly cooked and seasoned with home made chips and a simple salad is sadly hard to find in this country. ABK Hells lager in tankards was great too. Staff also lovely and welcoming. Long may you continue. Thank you."
