"I can 't recall any other cafe where I would feel so unwelcomed. When we tried to get there on the first day we had to wait at the entrance without any attention from the staff. We thought that the place is probably full and...waiters don 't have time and gave it a chance on the other day big mistake. There were 3 of us, 2 adults and a child. When we entered they told us that they have only table for 2. Ok, my child and I went inside. We 've been seated at the small table but it was obviously possible to put a third chair to accomodate the three of us. Then the waiter took the order quite quickly. The size of the ice cream balls was ridiculous about 2cm in diameter and the price was as for normal portion you would get in other places. We finished our food in 15 min and then spent almost 30 min waiting for the waiter to bring us the bill. He was moving around looking through us, didn 't react when I called him, was doing the tables, doing whatever but not paying attention to our table. I never experienced such attitude anywhere before. Finally after paying the bill we went to the exit and I said Thank you and good buy and there was no reply! Completely unacceptable."

"I have been to many restaurants around Lugano and have had good/bad and excellent food. This would fit in the excellent category. The interior is quirky and fun and very pleasant. Starter i had a pasta dish with Aubergines, absolutely wonderful!! Main the steak and...my partner had a seafood dish, both were very very tasty and so fresh. Dessert we both had the chocolate fondant with tabbacco ice cream, was so good i was close to ordering a second one. Wine was recommended by the head waiter, again well priced and very good. I am always back in Lugano and will be sure to visit here as this is one of the best in my opinion!"

Die Kutteln, da hatte ich schon bessere gegessen. Alles in allem ein gutes Grotto mit einer grossen Auswahl an warmen Speisen."

"A great restaurant, beautiful views and delicious food. Unless you're stupid enough to show up there at 5:30 p.m. The friendly service turns out to be an act: you are either ignored or, as in our case, simply left sitting there for 25 minutes after ordering coffee and cake. After an endless wait, we are told that it will take another 5 minutes until our order is carried out: the staff is at the table and finally has to eat something... then there are 10 employees sitting in an illustrious group eating and the same number of guests sitting outside without operation. "A bit off the beaten track but with a good google map this is easy to find and a there’s a free car park dead opposite. Despite the slightly drab exterior the service was outstanding! The menu was in Italian only but one waiter had...enough English to have a go at explaining after we’d worked most out either from memory of Italian menus and googling ‘translate...’ Food was super hot and very tasty the desserts were amazing (thus the photos) Well worth a visit very refined service."

"This spot is absolute perfect and I will tell you why: the view on the terrace is adorable and you have the sparkling lake just in front of you. This feeling is close to meditaraen sea. The food on the menu is perfect. We go to a lot of fine restaurants and this is one of my favs. As someone who likes a good wine, you all find sth u adore. Service is super nice and friendly with respect to the customer. If the weather is sunny I would definitely recommend sitting on the terrace. Otherwise the cellar inside is the perfect spot."

"We thought this looked like a nice place to have dinner after a long tiring day, so we walked up to the waiter and asked for a table, but he said we can 't please go . Wow, not sure why he kept refusing when there were...loads of free tables, and in fact 2 tables also got vacated, maybe I was Indian, maybe. But to keep it simple, we were refused service. But since the kids were famished we took takeaway (I was really tired to search for another place and we still had to get back to Zurich). Felt humiliated, to say the least, but I didn 't have the energy to argue why he was refusing to serve us so I just left it at that. But it surely leave a terrible taste in mouth, not the food I mean, this experience, first time ever to happen. And moreover when I could see him sitting other folks so was really perplexed."

"another (loving) hot day and we decided to go to lugano. after a walk through the city and when we saw that a storm comes, we found a free table here. we had to change the table first and a few minutes later. we were asked to go in through the weather. we ordered a zesarsalat, pommes and spaghetti carbonara. the fries were ok, but the salate was bad, as he already began to become brown. as for the carbonara? we never have our carbonara! when we asked if he forgot our spaghetti, he said yes, we laughed and told him that we wouldn't worry. because of the weather-turmoil everything was a bit in chaos and that is something we absolutely understand. but: again 25 minutes went by and we asked him again for our carbonara. He really thought we were sweating. he has deleted our order so that we never had anything to eat tonight because he thought when we told him not to worry, he can delete our order. no word of being really sorry, no gestures of f.ex not all drinks that we drank as we waited to cause any kind of discount oh its fault. Instead, he got angry and said we should go to the other place next door. but it was 22:36 and the restaurants were all closed. that is, we can all make mistakes, but the way they solve and treat this sotuation shows who they are. that was neither polite nor professional! so, not only bad quality in means of life, but also bad quality in behavior of this one person."

"With no reservation on a busy, warm, Saturday evening, my partner and I identified Trani on tripadvisor and decided to walk over and try our luck. It is a few min (uphill) walk from the centre, towards the train station, but on a narrow side...street, with tables delightfully perched outside on the steep street, at different levels. We arrived around 20:00 and about half of the tables were occupied outside, the waiters welcomed us warmly and after a few minutes they offered us a table outside. The menu is a combination of Italian flavours with something for every taste, and is not overly exhaustive (an indicator of freshness and quality). We shared an excellent tartare to begin, followed by a beef fillet, and the highlight- a stunningly prepared octopus (crunchy on the outside yet velvety on the inside), one of the best i have had. The wine list (la biblia) is however exhaustive and must cover a few hundred pages, for every budget. The waiter recommended to us a very nice, local red to go with our meal. There must have been at least 20 other couples/groups that arrived during our meal also without a reservation, and most had to be turned away, so it is advisable to reserve particularly on the weekend and with nice weather. We did not go inside but the restaurant looked gorgeous from the outside in. For the quality of food, service, and ambiance, the bill was also perfectly reasonable, in fact very good value compared to other places in Switzerland such as Geneva. We spent 3 nights in Lugano and tried a different restaurant each time, all highly rated, but Osteria Trani was the most enjoyable of our stay."

"Beware this must be one of the only bars in Lugano where there is an ‘al banco’ vs ‘a tavola’ price and there is a huge difference between the two. Cappuccino at the bar costs around 3.50 while at a table it costs 4.60....The service was ok and the setting is pleasant but not worth the price tag."
