"We recently attended a family 21st birthday in the back room at Millfields Hotel. This location had been chosen after we held a 50th birthday there earlier in the year in the Restaurant. I must start by saying that Sommer, one of the bar/restaurant staff, could not have been more helpful even considering the situation of the evening. A buffet had been ordered, like the previous time, to come out at 8pm and it had been requested that we have all savory food, including some hot food and sandwiches, and no cakes. When the buffet was served the majority was plates of cakes, with a couple of bowls of hot food. The quality of the food that was served was poor and when we asked to speak to the manager we were greeted by the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager who said there must have been some kind of miscommunication with the kitchen and she apologised profusely. We were informed that there was a table of 20 that they must serve first and then they would bring out more hot food and some sandwiches to correct the mistake, and would be no longer than 15 minutes. After half an hour of waiting and another family member having to ask for the pots of sauce that also hadn 't been brought out with the hot food, we again asked on the progress of the sandwiches as people had already eaten some of the hot food and what was left was now cold. We were greeted with more apologies and were told the food for the table of 20 had been delayed and therefore we would have to wait longer for the sandwiches. We asked to speak to a higher level of management and were told no one would be in until Monday but we were welcome to wait and speak to someone then, and to 'keep the plates of cakes anyway ' even though we had made it clear we didn 't want them as we had a two tier birthday cake. After nearly an hour and a quarter the sandwiches were finally served 3 plates of. (Ham, Cheese and Egg) Not the fillings, nor quantity or quality, we would have necessarily received should the right buffet selection been given to the kitchen to begin with. We felt very fobbed off and lied to at this point and found the evening poorly organised on the hotels behalf. The lady whom booked this event on behalf of her son, was totally embarrassed and mortified at the hole situation and spent the evening apologising to guests for the delays and poor quality of food. To top it off, and more reason for our review, on Sunday morning multiple guests from different households woke with upset stomachs after all eating at Millfields on the Saturday evening. We were totally disappointed in the evening from start to finish, especially after previous successful family functions held here."

"We booked a table for on a Saturday evening for three people, When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty bar two tables upstairs. We were seated and left with menus for The very young waitress came and took our orders. Our drinks...were a pint, a orange squash and one cocktail. We waited for these and received nothing, our first bits of food arrived before our drinks. When the food arrived we had no cutlery and no plates so we asked for these, the attitude on the server was as though we had asked for his life. How dare we enter a restaurant and want cutlery and plates to eat off. We also asked for our drinks( remember that really difficult order we placed, beer , squash and a cocktail) Eventually our drinks turned up but still no plates or cutlery so the dishes that had arrived where slowly going cold on our table whilst we stared at them wishing we could eat them. When a different waiter passed by we asked him for plates and cutlery and within seconds he brought them along with our other dishes. The first dishes were cold by this time so we asked for them to be reheated. Again we were faced with attitude and rudeness by the server (Andrew i think he was called) How dare we ask for our food to be hot or at least warm enough to eat. Andrew offered to reheat the dishes and return, he never did. We ate the few dishes we were left with which were hot enough and then left, as we went downstairs to pay we were faced with a bill featuring several of the dishes we hadn't received and being charged full price for the ones we had and had had to return due to being cold. Andrew had told us we could have the bill half price due to the shocking service and attitude he showed and yet the bill did not reflect this. We eventually came to an agreement on the bill and left. ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING SERVICE. There was a table of who waited about just for drinks and then decided to leave, a couple behind us who hadn't even had a drinks order taken after an hour and a poor couple who were just about to sit when we left. We warned them not to bother, Unless they fancied a very long night. We will not be back and i warn anyone who does visit, take a book and maybe even your PJs and a change of clothes, your in for a long wait."

"I popped in for lunch today im one of the most fussy eaters I know and it was absolutely amazing. Service was quick, polite and professional. The food was of a high standard, presented well and 100% worth the price asked. I had a chocolate milkshake and it was delicious didn 't taste at all like the cheap milkshakes some cafes sell. My panini was hot but not scolding which was a pleasant surprise and I could eat my lunch without the awkward waiting period for my food to cool. The home made crisps served alongside my panini were sensational I 've never had anything like it before. Even though my lunch was completely satisfying I couldn 't leave without trying one of the beautiful cakes. I had strawberry cheese cake, and personally I love strawberries however anything artificial strawberry tasting I can 't stomach. Well, this strawberry cheesecake is the only strawberry cheesecake I 've ever enjoyed and loved the taste of. The cream cheese being strawberry flavour with chopped up strawberries in it, I 've never had such good quality desert anywhere in cleethorpes. The deserts are definitely worth the money and portions are of perfect size. The decor is quirky and perfectly fitting to the name Mad Hatters Tea Room . The Tea Room still has a professional touch in which you look for when visting somewhere to eat. Everything was pristine condition and not a single piece of dust anywhere. Also I find being a Goth myself I generally get negative reactions from staff in cafes etc. But in this case I felt 100% welcomed which was a great experience for me and my partner. Bottom line this tea room is a unique place and very welcoming with high quality food and service. I would 100% recommend you eat here. It 's an experience you will not find anywhere else and I will 100% be visting again to try more of the menu."

"We popped in for some lunch on our way home and having never been before we thought we’d give this place a try. It was busy so we thought this might be a good sign... The menu was basic, mainly sandwiches, wraps and buns with very few hot choices. Neither Of us wanted a large lunch so we ordered a vegetable soup each and two pots of tea. The drinks arrived quickly and were ok, but the cups are the type where you cannot pick them up solely by the handle without balancing the hot cup against your fingers...not practical or particularly easy to drink out or even pleasant. When the vegetable soup arrived it smelt ok and tasted ok, that was until I discovered it also had bits of pasta, baked beans and potato lurking inside! I would never have ordered vegetable soup had I known it wasn’t vegetable soup, and more a minestrone! Upon closer inspection it actually looked like tinned soup (and not a very good one! , that had had a few fresh vegetables and some extra flavouring thrown in it. I left all of my veg as I got fed up of trying to pick out pasta and beans I also left the white bread bun that accompanied it, as I only eat wholemeal bread and no choice option was was given. As we paid no one asked if our food was ok, and I would have said what I felt given that opportunity, so I’m writing this review instead. This cafe only takes cash as well so that was another inconvenience as I’d just used the last of my cash. Would not recommend and probably won’t return, £12 for soup that gave me indigestion and I only drank the liquid!"
