"We were a party of six for a Sunday roast. Very reasonably priced and washed down by lovely Shere drop ale. Sadly though, the dinner/occasion was spoiled due to avoidable, sloppy service. (i.e it was not busy with diners) We waited a long time for menus, but then for the second time, after receiving our meals, we had to ask the young waitress for our cutlery. I blame this less though on the young lady, who was very pleasant and polite. As with every business, invariably most issues rest not so much with the staff, but with the owners, and/or management, not having control, and setting out clear working practices. We waited, and we waited, and some of us started to pick the food with our fingers. With no waiting staff in sight, I got up to ask a bar tender. I was assured the cutlery would be brought, and eventually it was, after about another three minutes. By this time, the food was luke warm. I think anyone would agree this is TOTALLY unavoidable and inexcusable. Why, this pub doesn't take the steer from virtually every other pub and have a vessel on the table with the cutlery and serviettes in, I just don't know. The food was very good, especially people's lamb which fell off the bone, and nothing was left on all six plates, but the bones. But big points deduction for not being able to eat HOT food! (And the fact the plates were not very hot didn't help either) We asked for the desert menus and then after about 10 minutes I had to grab the waiter. He seemed surprised and said he thought we just wanted to look at them! Well, what do people normally look at menus for!? It is not surprising to read another review saying it seems like this establishment is under new ownership. I know it is not, but this comment observes and reflects the fact there is little hands-on management of this historical pub. Of the many times I have visited the kings Arms, on almost every occasion the owner/landlady appears more on the other side of the bar, seeming more pre-occupied with drinking and socialising with her friends, and seeming intense and wired like she has been taking something a little stronger than alcohol. I and others have commented that this enterprise seems more like a trophy for her, as opposed to being something she has total pride in, and commitment to. It is a real shame, as this has the makings of a really good local pub."

"Waiter (W): Are you ready to order? Me (M): Please give me 2 minutes. The waiter arrived after a minute. I ordered a Kingfisher draught beer for myself, which was flat. My grandson wanted a soft drink, but the waiter insisted on apple juice (which was more expensive). We also ordered three Naans - one vegetarian and one butter chicken. When asked if we wanted rice, I declined and said we would order later if needed. The waiter insisted we order now, but I declined once again. Twenty minutes later, our food arrived. All three Naans were burnt. I informed the waiter, who claimed they were only slightly burnt and questioned why it was an issue. I explained that I was paying for it and he reluctantly took two Naans back while providing a small bowl of rice to fill the time gap. The Naans returned after 10 minutes, still burnt. It seemed like he hadn't replaced them at all. Despite asking for butter Naan, they were not buttered. The waiter said he had to take them back to apply butter and implied that I should have requested it earlier. I insisted that I had asked for butter when ordering. When I asked for butter to be brought to the table, the waiter refused. We decided to give up and finished our dinner, leaving most of the food uneaten on the table except for the beer and juice. The waiter was rude throughout the entire experience. My 10-year-old grandson noticed that the people at the next table received perfectly cooked Naans and wondered why they were so lucky. He then jokingly suggested it was because we were Indian."

"Having reviewed this restaurant before with 5 stars and always been very happy during a total of 3 visits last year this was the first visit in 2023. On a positive note: the lunch menu at £9.99 Monday to Friday is still great value if not even better value now than before as prices for cost of living and eating out have gone through the roof. Choose from 60 dishes and eat as much as you like for the same price Five Guys charges for just a cheeseburger without anything on the side! Also a pint of Stella at £4.90 from the tap is excellent value keep in mind it’s in most places now at least £6 for a Stella or similar beers. Out of the chosen dishes the pork, prawns and chicken were excellent also the omelet, fried rice and Chinese noodles very good! The ice cream is still the desert to go for, it’s perfect! However… 3 things weren’t very good: a) both the beef in black bean sauce and the broccoli were rather hard and chewy, not tender and juicy as they should be avoid! b) some of the plates and ice cream bowls were not clean keep your eyes open! c) none of the staff seemed to be happy, nobody was having a laugh, nobody said anything more than the absolute bare minimum why? Regards the often in other reviews mentioned temperature of the hot dishes: I think it was okay everything was warm despite not boiling hot fresh on a sizzling plate. No problem for me I think that’s the nature of a self service buffet restaurant. So there’s certainly room for improvement. Would I go back? Probably yes as long as it remains at the same price, maybe in a few months, but not immediately."

"Having been to the flower pot previously I went with hight expectations. A friend was visiting so I told her about the bottomless brunch and booked a table online at no point was I able to specify the bottomless brunch option when booking. When I arrived the waitress showed us to our table where menus were waiting for us. When I said we would like to do the bottomless brunch but that I had not been able to specify that on the booking the waitress said she would have to ringing and check with her manager who was not on the premises. She came back and informed us that we weren't able to have the bottomless brunch option as we had not prebooked it and there was not enough staff to cater this request. At this point we were the only people seated in the pub and there were perhaps 10 people seated outside. We ordered from the lunch 9Which included half of the food options available on the brunch menu)menu and had an enjoyable meal. The food was lovely, when ordering drinks towards the end of our food the waitress offered the cocktail menu. She proceeded to make us cocktails from the brunch menu. The food was lovely, the wait staff were attentive and the atmosphere was good. I am however extremely disappointed that having taken the time to go on line and book a table during which at no point was I given the option to select bottomless brunch as a choice, I arrived only to be told I could not have bottomless brunch and was then given both food and drink that was on the bottomless brunch menu while being told they were unable to cater for bottomless brunch. I will be leaving it a while before I return."

"Been here numerous times over the last 15 years. It’s set in beautiful walled gardens with outside and inside seating. Firstly this place is run by volunteers and is attached to a gallery. They served hot food, cakes and hot and cold drinks. Overall cakes are 5/5 most are homemade but their tea cakes come from the Cavan Bakery which has a few local branches so all cakes are locally produced which is a plus. We have only tried some of the food but the soup is always great and comes with a whopping slice of bread. Really tasty. I have also tried the cheese ploughman’s which again was pretty big. I always find with a ploughman’s that there is more cheese than bread/biscuits and this is no different. But again tasty. The service is always friendly and welcoming. The only thing that is not great is the quality of the coffee. It’s quite weak and so a cappuccino tastes like frothy milk only. It may be that the clientele prefer weaker coffee but would really love a stronger cup. We have found a way around this with black americano and a jug of milk. Overall this is a volunteer run place that is really welcoming and friendly. Cakes are great and the view is lovely and atmosphere peaceful. I would love the coffee to be better especially as we usually go for breakfast but it hasn’t stopped us visiting twice a month for the last 10 years and recommending this place to friends and family."
