"The staff at this restaurant are incredibly friendly. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The views are beautiful. It can get a bit noisy due to its popularity. There are always options available for vegans and vegetarians. Parking is easy and there is wheelchair accessibility at the front entrance with ramps. The service is top-notch. This is a great spot for a lunch meal, with prices ranging from £20 to £30 per person. The overall rating for the food is 5, service is 5, atmosphere is 4, and there is plenty of parking available with free parking lot options."

"Having booked tickets for a show at The Sub Rooms we then decided to make a break of it. The only hotel in town appears to be a functional hotel and we wanted something more homely, which is how we came upon The Bell, about a mile from town it was ideally located. The rooms are above the pub with a separate entrance at the rear, our room was exceptionally comfortable and clean, it had everything we needed for an enjoyable break. The pub is very welcoming with a good selection of beers, breakfast is taken here with some great options, we didn't get the chance to try the lunch/dinner menu which gives us another reason to return one day. Mark and Sarah along with all the staff were very friendly and welcoming, we shall be checking in on The Sub Rooms site for other shows, should we come again we would definitely stay here."

"I visited this restaurant on Saturday with my family to remember my dad on the anniversary of his passing. It was his favorite restaurant. I came back again on Monday with a friend, and both meals were absolutely amazing. The desserts were exceptional, especially the panna cotta which my twin and I agreed was the best we've ever had. The salmon pate was superb, and the sea bass and liver were also delicious. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal, and I will definitely be returning to this restaurant again."
"This is the second time in 4 weeks that I have had Sunday roast here and both times were really really nice. On both occasions we were 4 kids and 4 adults. The staff were super accommodating and helpful. We had beef brisket and the kids had fish and chips. Nothing seemed to be too much for the waiter serving with us who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. He even went off to find something for my fussy lad who wanted chocolate sauce rather than caramel which wasn't even on the menu! We shall be going again! Also to top it off they have a really gorgeous sunny beer garden with fabulous valley views."

"Gréât location and good service. I’ve eaten here for breakfast and it was good. Just had an evening meal there because of the reviews and was left disappointed. Service again was good but the food was just ok. Pork was dry and the French beans looked to be past their sell by date. The reviews of food are always subjective as it’s down to personal perspective and experience, I do think there is easy room for improvement here. For now I will stick to their breakfasts and coffee"

"This restaurant is a fantastic spot to meet up with a friend for a meal or a chat. The prices are reasonable for the excellent quality and well-prepared food. There is a good variety of hot and cold drinks available, with my personal favorite being their luxurious hot chocolate. It is a cozy place to spend a rainy day, sitting by the window and watching the world outside. The service is top-notch and the atmosphere is charming. Recommended dishes include Afternoon Tea, Full Breakfast, Mini Baked Camembert, and Homemade Chocolate Brownies. Meal type: Brunch. Price range: £10–20 per person."

"I recently went to The Ship with friends for a pre-booked Christmas meal. Before booking, I asked for a gluten-free menu and received an annotated version of their Christmas menu, which was perfect. Another member of our party also had dietary requirements and our party organizer had also requested special accommodations. Despite all three versions of the menu being annotated as suitable for me, upon arrival, I was informed that the fish pie I had pre-ordered, being told it was gluten-free three times, was actually not available as such. I was disappointed that this information was only given to me upon arrival, as I had been looking forward to it for two weeks. I reluctantly switched to turkey, which was supposed to be gluten-free but arrived with stuffing, causing some confusion. The meal was average overall, with the stuffing lacking taste and the gravy being watery. Additionally, the vegetables were mixed together, making it difficult to avoid certain ones. We had to request extra vegetables as well, as the portion was small for our group. The highlight of the meal was the large pig in blanket. Despite the food not meeting expectations, the service was good, and they offered my main course for free due to the error, which I did not request. This gesture prevented me from giving a lower rating, and I would not rush back for the food, but the service was commendable. Three stars."

"My friend and I randomly decided to try this independent pub on a Friday night in search of good food and a pleasant atmosphere. We hit the jackpot. Although the menu was somewhat limited, we highly recommend trying the daily specials. We ordered the fish dish and it was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and generous portions. The brownie for dessert was also good. The staff were attentive and friendly, creating a nice atmosphere that was enhanced by a cozy log fire."
"We have been to the recently refurbished Swan restaurant twice in the past 2 months, after our first meal we were very pleasantly surprised by the huge improvement in the menu choices and the quality of the food. On our second visit last night we were equally impressed. The decor is really nice….l would happily use it for a private function with the addition of tablecloths (that is just my own personal requirement for special occasions! . My fish and chips were just the best l have had for ages…batter not too heavy, fish moist, chips just brilliant. hubby had sea bass and loved it. Please support this local hotel, so good to see them working so hard to give us a nice environment to eat in, and great chef’s in the kitchen, and nice youngsters being trained in the hospitality industry. Well done David, congratulations."
"As for the rooms, ours was delightful with a really comfortable bed. The drink selection, especially the cider and real ale, was excellent. Breakfast was a highlight, offering a wonderful variety of cooked options. One morning, I had the Smoked Salmon with scrambled eggs, and the next day I enjoyed poached haddock with poached eggs. My husband tried the full English breakfast and loved it. Although we didn't dine in for dinner since we were out in the evening, we did have some sandwiches which were very nice. The food was really lovely, made even better by the friendly staff. All in all, we had a wonderful stay!"

"Meal Type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30 Rating: Food: ★★★★★ Service: ★★★★★ Atmosphere: ★★★★★ If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience, I highly recommend trying this restaurant. For dinner, you can expect to spend around £20 to £30 per person, which is well worth it given the quality provided. The food was exceptional, earning a perfect rating of 5 stars. I particularly enjoyed the Garlic Bread, which was simply irresistible, and the Fiorentina Pizza, a delightful blend of flavors. Don't miss out on the Tiramisu and the Cheese Cake of the Day for dessert—they're both must-tries! The service was equally impressive, with attentive and friendly staff who made the experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was charming, offering a warm and inviting space to relax and savor your meal. Overall, this restaurant is a top choice for a memorable dinner."

"Last weekend, I took a walk through Slad Valley and made sure to stop by The Woolpack. This charming old pub has a wonderfully authentic atmosphere, with cozy, vibrant sections and exits at both ends. We settled in with some locals and enjoyed a refreshing drink of apfelsine, a quiet and flavorful cider from Dunkerton’s. The pub has a rich history, and the locals have a deep appreciation for Laurie Lee's works, often engaging in lively conversation. We loved the experience so much that we ended up booking a table for dinner, which was absolutely delicious. The house wines were among the best I've ever tasted. There is a genuine pride in this place; the food is ample and hearty, yet the pub’s original character remains intact, which is why it attracts so many visitors."
"This pub has so much potential. It is a shame that under the current stewardship the pub has had its soul stripped from it, there is now no atmosphere, no pub garden (just benches in a car park). The kitchen has been under renovation for at least the last 5 years+ and they sell frozen pizza with your expensive out of date beer. Unlike many if the stroud pubs it feels like it has had its community stripped from it and panders to and hosts far right and rascist hate speech under the guise of 'comedy '. Avoid at all costs Rooms: 1 Service: 1 Location: 5"

"Looking for a lunchtime bite this had a good feel about it and we weren't disappointed. Old pub modernised inside by crisp plain but stylish use of lots of red and black this had a prosperous feel about it. Well stocked bar attracted my attention because every last bottle was sparkling clean, the fridges well stocked and the contents all properly “faced up”. This screams “well run”. We were only there for a light lunch so a knockout steak sandwich (smoked salmon for the boss) was just the job, washed down with a very decent pint couldn’t have done better. Steak sandwich was 8£ And would happily have paid more for it. The Landlord was happily swapping out his 4 Star Scores on the Doors” branding for his shiny new 5 Stars. Well deserved. I’d have happily spent the whole afternoon by the log burner with a few more pints and some good conversation. Great blend of traditional and modern we need more pubs like this."

"Loved going to this place over the years especially on cold winter evenings so booked to go with friends for a birthday pie ! Specifically asked for the corner table by the fire in the bar area when booking so was really disappointed to be...shown into the other side on arrival There used to be a fire in there too but now that’s not in use and blocked off by a table and even the radiator near the door wasn’t on so it was a very poor and cold experience especially when people arrived or left ! Even the pies aren’t the same. I think half half is now more like two thirds (veg) to one third (filling) and my cauliflower was definitely a plain white sauce and not the once delicious cheese sauce. The service was pushy and rushed from the minute we walked in and seemingly couldn’t wait to get us out just after It’s going to be some time before we contemplate a return based on that experience such a shame to lose one of our most trusted “go to” winter haunts. !"

"We visited the Bakers Arms on Sunday, en route to see Giffords Circus in Stroud. It is the last weekend of the season, so for us, an annual visit. I’m so glad we booked, because this is one busy pub! Admittedly, it was a little chaotic parking, however, we managed to park, and the landlady offered our friends The opportunity to park in the private car parking area. There were eight of us in our group. We arrived early, and had some relaxed drinks outside. At 1 pm, our table was ready, two of our guests had not arrived, and I informed the bar we would be delayed slightly, this was not a problem. We were shown to our table, an extensive menu many wonderful dishes to choose from. And we are all pleasantly surprised at the cost. One of our party chose the Vege Burger. Two decided on the Cheese Burgers and the other five of us all had roasts. Three opted for the rib of beef, and my daughter the pork. The meat was so tender and flavoursome, the vegetables fresh and crisp and the roast potatoes just simply perfect finished with stuffing, crackling and lashings of gravy. The service was relaxed and friendly and also very attentive. For dessert, some had ice cream, and my daughter opted for the Banoffee pie. We will certainly return, this time next year without any hesitation and look forward to it. And if you’ve not ever seen Giffords Circus, I certainly recommend it! A fantastic day, with great friends, good food, and a fantastic show! Thanks again."

"This is the second time we have visited and again were not disappointed. I booked for my partner’s birthday and we enjoyed a complimentary glass of fizz once seated. To start we had a Spicy Crab Soup and a Fish Soup. Both had great depth of flavour and were warming on quite a cold day. For mains we had the oven roasted Brill and Salmon. Both beautifully cooked and we commented on more than adequate portion sizes. This is a restaurant that offers a relaxed dining environment with good friendly service and consistently delivers well cooked high quality produce."

"The Carpenters Arms is truly the best pub in the Stroud area! Sammy and the staff consistently go above and beyond to make you feel at home. It’s always our go-to spot, and I even travel 100 miles to enjoy it—every minute of the journey is worth it! We absolutely adore this place. If you're searching for a welcoming pub with delicious home-cooked meals, look no further! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Coffee was good. Food not as described. Mushrooms on toast consisted of we past their best mushrooms (very black) rock hard butter and toast on the side. So not mushrooms on toast. Whole place could do with attention to details, table was sticky, overall I was disappointed with level of cleanliness. Staff rather indifferent, lady on the till very welcoming but after that???"
