"A resident who loves our pier but had not visited lately due to illness was saddened when my Husband and I visited yesterday we moved here in 2008 and have always thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the pier usually for a meal at The Boardwalk restaurant so grateful and proud (as we always told non residents) how fortunate we are to have such a fabulous pier not 2 minutes from our home. When I heard it had been taken over by hoteliers I thought that could only be a good thing as if anything they would improve it. How wrong I was, shocked and saddened by the lack lustre shabby look in need of a paint in most places! Now to the food, so disappointing, what has happened, you can't even get a scone with a pot of tea, they have run out of cake and the cafe that does serve such items was closed when it should have been open.! You may and I stress may be ok if you want fish and chips but on reading the recent reviews that's not guaranteed either. We settled for a coffee without anything as there wasn't anything. How can you describe on your website that is the best place to eat in Southwold with dedicated chefs, sorry it's just not true! The annoying thing is it could be so much better with just a modicum of thought! And what's all this about the rude manager in so many of your reviews! People will understandably vote with their feet when faced with such a menu and standard at expensive prices rudeness to boot! The next thing we will hear is they can't make it pay and the evitable will happen, i suggest that the head of management starts reading these disappointed recent reviewers, gets the painters in and makes good with the appropriate menu and a return to the Southwold Piers previous years when it was such a great place to visit for a meal. So sad."

"when I visited, contain vegan options empanadas, Moroccan roll, bananenbrot, folding jacket chocolate cookies (although they would run out of these would make sure they get there early! the folding jacket and empanada were beautifully empanada was slightly dry, but the taste was wonderful. the personal was very friendly and clearly pointed to the vegan options where it was difficult to read the labels. in any case worth a visit if they are close. updated by previous rating on 2022 06 25"

"We had booked our table in advance as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. However, when we arrived, we were told a table had to be made up, so we were asked to sit and wait while this was done. Once at our table, we were given menus and soon were ready to order. Meanwhile, another couple came in about 10 minutes later. The waiter gave them a choice of pre-prepared tables and gave them menus. 5 minutes or so later, he returned to their table (although we were obviously ready to order) and asked if they wanted poppadoms and drinks. They said they were ready to order, so he glanced over at us waiting, but still took their order. He then answered the phone, took another order and unbelievably started serving a queue of takeaway customers. Needless to say, we walked out, feeling overlooked, insignificant and worthless. We have often used this restaurant for takeaways, since recently moving to the area and liked the food. But after being ignored and treated so rudely, we will not be returning to eat at Indiagate. Luckily, our anniversary wasn’t ruined. We found a lovely restaurant, The Wine Vaults, which made us very welcome, offered us drinks and cooked wonderful food for us."

"Awful meal. Starting off with being charged 50p to order of their own website and collect paying with cash. Food ready and in a bag when I arrived 10 mins early so only lukewarm. Spring rolls in batter and mainly bland beansprouts. The shrimp chow mein should have been called chow mean as 5 shrimps! Go elsewhere . Sad as used to be okay. Maybe it has changed hands?"

"Visiting Lowestoft on a very Wet morning so called in for a coffee. Served by couple of friendly young women. Coffee fine and bought a scone to share. The pastries and cakes all looked lovely and were nicely on display. Quite busy for wet Tuesday with lots coming in for take aways, I presume they have regular locals in daily."

"Plastic in the homemade pudding. March 2024 I took the family for Easter lunch, we had 2 roast beef and a roast lamb an Eton Mess, a fruit crumble and I had the homemade jam roly poly, this is were the issue started. In my second spoonful of the pudding I found it contained a piece of plastic which stuck in my gum, on inspection it looked like the rim of a take away container about the length of my thumb nail and 3mm wide and very sharp its a good job I did not swallow it, Heaven knows what problems that would have caused. My daughter called over a member of kitchen staff who was walking through the restaurant at the time and I showed him the contaminate, he took it and went back to the kitchen, we heard nothing more, not a word, no apology, no offer of anything, not that I would have accepted anything) the only thing was that the pudding was taken off the bill. Which I would have asked for anyway. I have worked in many kitchens in the past and cross continuation is a hygiene area that must be avoided. I have now just spent a sleepless night with a throbbing gum, It's Easter bank holiday Monday and I am now trying to find a dentist to check if any permanent damage has been done. The attitude of the Blue Boar staff, and how my complaint was handled left me with the feeling, the staff thought I had bought this plastic with me and caused this issue myself. Very poor. I shall not be going back and I advise you not to."

"Apparently i cant give zero dots, or i would. Food was bland and tasteless. Chicken tikka had no flavour to it at all. Chicken tikka dopiaza is supposed to be creamy, it was like water. Naan bread was undercooked and raw in the middle. As for service, the chap was rude in his manners, snatching plates away before we were finished as a family. Felt very unwelcoming and like we were a n inconvenience. I also noted that whilst he was taking someone else's order, he stopped to answer the phone. Clearly, take aways are far more important than the people sat in front of him. My advice ? Go to Beccles, or Harleston, Norwich, or Lowestoft, anywhere but this place !!!"

"Twice in one week ! I met for a friend for lunch at the Trowel and hammer. They had just launched a new menu. We opted for the pub classics which included dessert if you have room) I had steak burger with coleslaw and fries. Added smoked bacon as an extra. It was topped with a large gherkin slice and has to be the best burger I have eaten in a long time. Dessert arrived. Baileys cheesecake topped with white chocolate shavings. Beautifully light and very tasty. £15 for the 2 courses. We were meeting family at the weekend for drinks and food. I insisted on the trowel and hammer to try the evening menu after such a fab lunch. The staff made us very welcome and seated us in the conservatory. My husband went for the burger after I raved about it. The evening menu differed and the burger came with brisket, bacon and cheese. A side of coleslaw and fries. The chicken supreme with mash and beautiful fresh veg was amazing, the chicken was so light and tender. The other dish on the table was fish pie. I tried the dish and with the smoked haddock, I'll be ordering that on our next visit."

"Hello. I was recommended this restaurant, although I had my uncertainties due to previous reviews. I booked it for 10 of us as a family treat. When we arrived a member of staff, who turned out to be the manager, looked at us blankly and made no effort to seat us it was another staff member who stepped in and took us to our table (Nice chap). The manager came over to take the order and just stared at each of us like we were a complete inconvenience, no talking or assistance. The food was ok and most staff friendly but the manager is a very rude man and I will not be putting money in his pocket again. Other people there were having the same experience and we found out that he wants payment in cash (which he did)....seems strange that the card machine is still out of order after months/years?"

"We ate in this restaurant for the 2 nights we stayed and also for breakfast. The breakfast choice was very good with the ‘Full English’ coming with Gareth’s home made black pudding . There is also a selection of cereals if required. My wife enjoyed the muffin and poached eggs which were cooked to perfection. Breakfast is also open to non residents so if you are meeting friends they can join you. She likes to see a runny yoke but many establishments fail to achieve this. For the evening meals there is also a nice selection for starter, main course and dessert so it is easy to find something you like. There is a wide selection of drinks available from the bar and there is also a good selection of wines. We also noticed they do afternoon teas although 24 hours notice is required and a lunch time menu selection. Staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Would thoroughly recommend eating here and of course it’s a no brainier if you are staying at the hotel. Why would you go anywhere else?!."

"I've been to The Tramways the last 2 years for my birthday and it was great. This year I booked, saying that I was gluten free. We arrived very small and not very exciting menu only 5 of each course. I asked the waitress to check on what I could have that was gluten free she said no starter's and just one main course, I then spoke to the chef, I could have had the salmon also but they had run out of it (only serving 5 tables that evening) so I had the only main I was allowed to have a ribeye steak for a whopping £26, which turned out to be inedible as it was all fat no meat, a friend on the table also had the steak which was the same. We complained and didn't have to pay for those, so I hardly ate anything for my birthday meal. I was quite impressed they had a gluten free brownie on the dessert menu. But I was so disappointed by then I just wanted to leave. Don't bother not the same now Mark G has left."

"We were at the car dealership next door and wanted something quick to eat and saw that On a Roll was open. When we got there they were packing up for day as it was 2pm which is when they would normally close but the man on the outside grill said that it was no problem to order lunch and I am glad we did. The customer service was excellent and they went over and above to serve us lovely food, my son even got a little something extra on the side. Whilst we don't live in the area we would definitely recommend going there if you want a delicious burger and great service and would definitely go back if we visit Lowestoft again."

"We were staying at Southwold Camping site (end of ferry road) in a motorhome and ordered by telephone. I asked for food to be delivered at a certain time (19:30) rather than ASAP and lady said not a problem... Driver would meet me at campsite entrance... Paid by card over the phone... Exactly as promised, restaurant called me at 19:20 to say driver was on his way, and as I was walking to the entrance the driver had driven onto the campsite and met me halfway. Absolutely brilliant!! Food was delicious and plenty of it would definitely recommend and will certainly be using again when we visit Southwold in the future."

"It would be very easy to be put of this place if you judged it from the first impression it creates when you arrive outside. The sight of a slightly ramshackle building on a decidedly disreputable looking industrial estate didn 't bode well, but we 'd visited on the strength of some good reviews and they proved to be correct. We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit here and as a result have been back another couple of times since. The premises, which has Thai owners, is decked out in the style of an American diner, with lots of quirky Americana adorning every spare surface in the restaurant, along with a bar, a pool table and a jukebox, to complete the effect. No menus but all the dishes on offer are written up on boards around the walls, including a huge selection on a specials board . Most of what is on offer is traditional American diner food...that is to say, burgers, dogs, ribs etc...but in addition to these, there is a good selection of other dishes, ranging from an assortment of breakfasts, roast dinners, pasta and some really excellent Thai food. All the food we 've tried has been really good. All freshly prepared to order on the premises, incredibly good value and accompanied by some very friendly and welcoming service. This place is certainly a bit different from most places we 've eaten, both in its location and decor, but the food is good, value fantastic and atmosphere great. Definitely worth a try."

"we've been waiting for our food for almost two hours. then got a call 6 minutes before the delivery time saying that it wasn't a chicken, that meant feeding 5 children. Cause it was because they didn't get it out of the freeze cabinet when we asked them to clear up their problem, they offered us a pizza. when we asked that they prepare enough pizzas for the nutrition of the children, they said that they cost more than the 18 huh we ordered. really! that was her fault, not ours! I understand that kitchens are getting into a mud they have clear. then they told us that our order was canceled. they should treat this to another wise way that would have left their loyal customers happy, but they have treated themselves so badly and so unprofessional wisely! what happened to the customer service? we have been loyal customers for years! really bad effort, cancellation are order, because they are not able to cope with the situation is really not the customer's fault. poor shows!"

"CHINESE AT ITS VERY BEST. THE USUAL, WARM WELCOME FROM OUR HOST JIMMY SUCH A GENUINELY NICE PERSON. LOVLEY FRESH PRAWN CRACKERS. WE MADE UP OUR OWN PLATTER, INCLUDING, MELT IN THE MOUTH, CHICKEN SATAY SKEWERS, CRISPY SEAWEED, SUCCULENT RIBS, ETC. WE HAD THE CRISPY DUCK, HALF, ENERMOUS PORTION ON DUCK, BEAUTIFULLY COOKED. WE ALL CHOSE INDIVIDUAL MAINS. AFTER EXTREMELY HOT PLATES PRESENTED, WE ALL ENJOYED OUR MAINS, SQUID,SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN, BEEF IN BLACK BEAN SAUCE, AND A VEGETARIAN DISH, ALL SIDES, WELL PRESENTED WELL.
