"The food is lovely here, however they need to fix the service aspect of the restaurant as it was absolutely atrocious. There were 3 waiting staff, all young boys and another lad dressed in black who was trying his best, there was no direction, there was no management support, there was a man who was suited who popped in twice but never stayed and helped, the poor young boys seemed out of their depth. We ordered our meal when they came to take our initial drinks order as already I observed they seemed to be undirected. The starters and mains arrived timely, then when they came to take away our empty main course plates we asked for dessert menus, 45 minutes later we were still waiting, we managed to get one of the boys attention as they all go around with their heads down, not observing what is happening around them at all. We then were left with our menus for another 15 minutes, which at this point I had had enough, I said to the young lad in black when we got his attention and he came over that no we now didn't want any desserts, as we had been waiting about an hour to get them. He shrugged, went and got the bill and put it on our table, no apologies, no interaction, nothing, customer service non existent. I went and complained to the hotel receptionist on leaving, she apologised and said she would pass onto management. I hope she did, as the service received did the hotel a total dis service, and I and my family are local and regulars here."

"We started our meal by arriving at 6pm, a VERY quiet time in the restaurant, meaning zero atmosphere. With no music, we were whispering as if we were in a library. Nice enough staff, we laughed at if I should have been offended at the waiter asking if I’d asked for “free” mains, when in fact I asked if we could have “three” mains between two people. My dinner mate said the waiter must think I’m a right chav for dropping my “th’s”. But on reflection, he was harmless and meant nothing by it, it became a bit of a running joke till the end of the meal. Starters were nice, crab crumpet and veal tartare, but very small. Mains, we had lamb, beef, and chicken. Let’s start with my chicken, it was pretty nice, no real complaints there(although I couldn’t get any chicken glaze from the brioche served with the dish, it was just a bit dry, but good for mopping up the sauce . My friend had lamb, the flavours were good, but his was all but cold. We agreed both plates were cold too, I think it can have a dramatic effect on how much a dish rapidly cools. My chicken wasn’t cold, but I wouldn’t want it much colder for sure. The beef was the “third” dish we shared, the beef wasn’t overly tender, the brisket(not sure exactly what cut style bit on the side very dry, the capers added nothing, and broadly the whole dish was under-seasoned. Quite underwhelming actually. The two most expensive dishes cold or underwhelming. We were however, overwhelmed by the cabbage side. Full of flavour, the topping was nice and umami, and without it, we may have felt a bit aggrieved at the mains(we did in hindsight to be fair . To be honest, we felt aggrieved at £135 for two starters, three mains, no alcohol(we both don’t drink . I had a £5.50 lemon bitter mocktail, which was nice. It’s a lot of money for this experience. I can eat so handsomely in say, Duck Soup Soho, or The Eagle Farringdon(in fact we had 1 starter, three mains at The Eagle a couple of weeks prior, for £70 for two!! . All very different dining experiences, but so satisfying at the latter two! I wouldn’t say The Princess is bad, it’s just not really that great an experience. We agreed it might be a great place to take someone on a date who doesn’t know a great deal about food, and who doesn’t eat a lot. It would really impress them. I can just think about many better places to go for food quality, cooking, atmosphere, and value for money. I’ll happily pay into the hundreds, it’s just got to tick more boxes than this did this evening."

"Been meaning to go to the Store for a roast dinner for a while as i have eaten here before and the atmosphere, drinks and food have always been top. Unfortunately the roast dinner did not live up to expectations. The roast beef is 19£ in which you would expect it to be very high standard. We ordered all the sides as it was a girly get together and we had been looking forward to the roast for ages. To our surprise, the food came out pretty quick we ordered 2 x beef and 1 chicken. The beef had 1 slice of beef 2 potato 2 carrots some sort of small onion cabbage thing and 1 piece of broccoli and a dried out Yorkshire pudding FOR 19£!! I couldn't believe it, our sides then came out the cauliflower cheese had hardly any cheese or sauce, the pigs in blankets were burnt and some missing blankets, the stuffing was the only decent side. My other friends chicken then came out which looked like a better portion side but was unfortunately cold. She sent this straight back and believes that it was microwaved and given back to her so she refused it. Me and my other friend was so hungry we had no choice but to eat the food. We pulled this up with the waitress and if im honest she couldnt have been happier to help. They dealt with the situation very well. We was offered a discount on the food and extra roasties. I can say that when eatting the roast the gravy was good but the potatoes were not good and the lack of food on the plate for 19£ put an overall sore taste in our months. The way the staff handle the complaint was second to none so on this basis i will be returning to the restaurant just probably not order a roast. If the price wasnt so high there wouldnt be such high expectations. Maybe something to consider for the future."

"My mrs had just done a 6 day shift at the hospital so I thought I’d treat us to a Sunday lunch we arrived at 1300 (on a Sunday) and the place was dead. Friendly waitress took us to a table and we ordered drinks then we were told that due to an event they weren’t doing Sunday lunchif we’d been told upon arrival they weren’t doing Sunday lunch we wouldn’t have stayed. The alternatives were terrible, my mrs is vegetarian so she ordered a vegetarian pie with seasonal veg a few minutes after ordering someone came along and asked her if she was vegan or vegetarian as the pie has meat in it. When we asked her what she meant she seemed to not know what vegan or vegetarian meant, she muttered and wandered off. we didn’t see her again, and we still don’t understand what she meant. The seasonal veg was. Over boiled frozen peas and a tiny dollop of mash. Oh and gravy, we couldn’t be bothered to ask if the gravy was vegetarian, but I am 99% sure it wasn’t but she needed it to drown the dry mash and peas. I ordered the mixed grill, it was terrible , if you’ve ever wondered how thin a gammon slice needs to be before it’s just bacon dine here.. the thinest gammon I’ve ever seen, but also the fattiest, a lump of chicken that looked and tasted like it had been boiled, and a steak that was so tough (no steak knife was offered) that I had to ask for some sauce to mask the flavour (I never eat steak with sauce). I can’t be bothered to describe the kids pasta , but he didn’t eat it. My mrs hates it when I make a fuss so I bit my tongue (nicer than the steak lol), but at the end I had to say something and we got our drinks taken off the bill. I also flashed the Mrs’ blue light card and got more off the bill. Disappointed."
