"I have been here a few times, and the service has always been a bit slow, but we got sat was told that there is a 2h max seating time. We waiting 15min before we asked to find some to take our order, still no one, then another 15, before we had to ask again. Over 30min gone we finally got someone to our table. Drinks didn’t come with garnish/straw. No water was filled in our glasses after asking multiple times. The food was just okay. Waiter was no where to be found to order anything wise, check in the table or pay…very disappointing to say the least."

"The service was friendly and the menu was decent. We decided to try the vegetarian roast dinner, which was priced the same as a turkey dinner - but the trimmings for the vegetarian option had to be paid for extra. The turkey dinner came with Yorkshire pudding, gravy, and more vegetables, while the vegetarian option required additional vegetables to be added on. This seems to be a common occurrence where vegan options come with smaller portions and added costs. Even the potatoes were served in smaller portions for the vegetarians compared to the meat eaters. Despite the discrimination in portion sizes, the food was good and the vegetarian roast was tasty. However, it should ideally be priced around £10 instead of around £13, considering the small meal size without adding on extras. #Veganuary"

"The food is pretty disappointing to be honest, it’s fairly pricey for a meal but the flavours aren’t up to scratch and the portion sizes are quite stingey. No flavour in the black rice with king prawns, and only 5/6 little prawns for close to £20. Lovely staff and vibe but I wouldn’t come back for the food. We paid £100 for just 3 main meals and 3 alcoholic drinks, which I wouldn’t mind so much if the food was actually at the standard it should be, but it isn’t sadly."

"It's not often I find pub food anything more than average, great reviews not reflecting what I find when I get there BUT not this time. From the moment my daughter and I arrived we had incredible front of house service, polite and attentive. Lovely pint of ale but the food!Having been down in Oxford for a week I am sorry to say I head home tomorrow. I wish I had found this on the first day because nothing we have had compares to the food here. The love, passion and skill of the team of chef's here is a bit of magic. I intended to only have a starter and mains but the first two courses were SO good I had dessert as well. Nothing disappointed, I even suggest that if the management of Costa or Starbucks read this you might want to learn how to make a good cup of coffee from this team. "I had a fantastic evening with my friend at this restaurant. As someone who is gluten and dairy free, I was pleased that the chef was able to accommodate my dietary needs without any issues. They even went above and beyond to adjust my meal to be dairy free. The menu offered a variety of gluten-free options as well. I highly recommend this restaurant for any special celebration. I would give it a perfect score of 10 out of 10 for accommodating dietary restrictions. The food and service both deserve a rating of 5 out of 5."

"We had a group booking for our drama group 19 people....unfortunately 3 had to drop out due to illness but a call to The Huntsman sorted it all out and the 3 were cancelled with no fuss. Our table was ready with crackers and little wooden 'scatters ' (not the usual shiny plastic! . Starters, mains and desserts all arrived quickly and hot food was really hot nothing 'luke warm '. All meals were enjoyed and I heard no complaints about quality or quantity. (We had the festive menu which is not listed in the food to recommend in this review! "I went to this restaurant for Saturday lunch with five friends. The reviews on the food were mixed. I ordered the carne asada burrito and it was delicious, 10/10. However, my friends ordered the quesadillas and complained that they were too oily and had too much cheese. The service started off slow, but once our order was taken, the food came out quickly and everyone got what they ordered. The atmosphere was nice, though the room could use some improvement. The menu was also a bit worn out and could benefit from being laminated or replaced more frequently."

"Went here for an anniversary dinner. We both wanted the pork belly. We were told at 5pm on a Sunday it had sold out. The chef however managed to find pork belly for the table behind us. When I challenged this with the waitress, she said I was wrong. The table behind us then asked for apple sauce. I know for a fact they were served pork belly. This left a bad taste with me. If the waitress is going to lie, be better and more discreet. I made it clear I knew and that I wasn’t leaving a tip. I wanted a pudding but under principle, I didn’t have one and went elsewhere for pudding. Won’t be back. "Food was great portions was extremely good for the Burgers double cheese and giant farm burgers the steaks were perfectly done both medium rare and the triple meat meal with gammon chicken and small steak was perfect. The service workers were very polite with great attitudes even while quite busy. Two kitchen workers even came out to help with drinks while ordering. Great team only got the name of Donna and Antonio but as a guy who's managed a bar I wish I had workers of their kind of attitude to work. "My family met up for lunch on Sunday afternoon at a restaurant we frequent often. The staff is great and the atmosphere is always pleasant. The food is consistently good. "I recently visited The Spotted Dog for a friend's birthday lunch in the private dining room and was eager to return to try out the main restaurant. The welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and excellent service made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. Despite being part of a large party, we were still able to enjoy pre-dinner drinks in the garden, which was a nice touch. The extensive menu had plenty of tempting options, but we opted for a simple catch-up lunch with family. The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, and the prices were very reasonable. "We have eaten here on a few occasions recently and found the food to be good. We came for Sunday lunch today and were very disappointed with the general experience. We sat down at 1.30 to be told there was no roast beef (surely you would hold some back for your bookings? . We ordered a pork and a chicken. We had starters first which were ok, the garlic mushrooms were lukewarm. The mains turned up with very very small portions of meat and 3 dried up roast potatoes each that had been hanging around for a while, the vegetables were also lukewarm. I asked the waitress for some more pork only to be told they had run out (one of my slices of pork had even been cut in half was this so that some other poor diner could have his portion? . So I spoke to the landlord Jerry, who found some more pork (where had it been hiding! . To be honest we got the impression that they had run out of food and our meals were cobbled together with the last scraps. The whole experience was a let down; when I paid the bill and voiced my concerns to the barman he was not the slightest bit interested. What a shame; we are locals and eat out often. We won't be back."

"Waited a long time for a slot to go for Sunday lunch and the food was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere in the Bistro and comfortable. Staff were friendly and professional. The only thing we found to be a negative is the fact that the menu is £28 for two courses and still charged the same even if you have the one course which then makes it rather an expensive roast lunch compared to other places. One of our party has a very small appetite and a little disappointed about this. Overall a nice place and would visit again."

"Appalling attitude from a member of staff (Barman, Bold head, tattoos). First we asked for an expresso, he refused to make it so a lady behind the bar kindly made this for us. He then went on a rant about the campsite close by labelling everyone who stayed there a “drug addict” and he hated the custom from anyone from the campsite, the bar should just be for locals and people who stay there. I found his tone and attitude disgusting so much so we left and ended up not eating at the pub. It would be such a shame if the national trust do take over the fields and end up not allowing any campers in the area…wouldn’t be good for business as I’m sure the “drug fulled” campers help with business."

"It has been a few years since my last visit, and I was delighted to find that on Monday, the dining experience is still of extraordinary quality in this hidden gem of a restaurant. My salmon was a generous portion, perfectly cooked and served in a delicious sauce. My partner had the sirloin steak, accompanied by the largest, freshest king prawns in garlic butter, also cooked to perfection. We were well taken care of by the owner, his staff, and the skilled kitchen team. The lovely open fire added to the ambiance, and the music was an enjoyable eclectic mix. To top it all off, the wine selection was excellent! Thank you for a delightful evening; we will definitely be back again."

"Booked a table on short notice at 5pm they had availability at 7pm was nice to be informed on the phone what dishes weren't available. Got to the restaurant on time orderd starters and mains which were nice, went to the bar at 8.10 to order desserts but unfortunately was informed the kitchen was closed would have been nice to be informed this at time of booking or when ordering the food at the bar as we would have preferred mains and desserts rather than starters and mains, was our second visit unlikely to drive out that way to go back."

"A friend and I recently dined at this restaurant. My friend had visited before and said it was the best Portuguese restaurant in the area, but we both agreed that the experience did not live up to the positive reviews. We ordered mussel clams and octopus salad, along with bread and butter. The salad and bread arrived first, and we were surprised to find garlic bread but no butter. The waitress didn't seem concerned. Shortly after, we were served a plate of prawns instead of the clams we had ordered. When we mentioned this to the waitress, she simply shrugged and said we had pointed at the prawns. The main courses were decent, with a creamy mushroom sauce, but the meat was tough. I have had better experiences at Portuguese restaurants in the Heathrow area and would not recommend Moniz to others."
