"I recently visited The Spotted Dog for a friend's birthday lunch in the private dining room and was eager to return to try out the main restaurant. The welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and excellent service made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. Despite being part of a large party, we were still able to enjoy pre-dinner drinks in the garden, which was a nice touch. The extensive menu had plenty of tempting options, but we opted for a simple catch-up lunch with family. The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, and the prices were very reasonable. I can't wait to go back and sample more dishes from the main menu. If you're looking for a quality dining experience run by genuine and welcoming people, look no further than The Spotted Dog. You won't be disappointed!"

What a fabulous find! Lovely venue, tables spaced well apart. Service friendly, attentive and professional. Food superb! I had the pork belly which was full of flavour. And the brûlée was a perfect end. Will be back. View menu

Food was fine but place was freezing. An assurance that the heating was on made no impression on the ice cold radiators. A request for a heater was met again with ‘the heating is on!’ Wearing a coat with another coat over my knees to keep warm did not make for a pleasurable lunch. Saving costs on heating has been taken too far by this establishment

This was the most amazing Christmas dinner ever! I don't typically write reviews, but I felt compelled to for this experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and very intimate. I came with my family on Christmas Day and enjoyed everything that was offered, especially the desserts with a rose port! I can't wait to go back and try the a la carte menu. I highly recommend this restaurant! View menu

I am blown away by the experience I had at this restaurant on Christmas Day 2023. It was truly the best Christmas lunch I have ever had. The food was beautifully presented with a wide variety of delicious options, not just the typical turkey roast. The service was superb and you could feel the warmth and effort that went into every detail. I am a regular at this pub and don't mind driving an hour to get there because it is always worth it. Thank you Carla and Neil for your exceptional hospitality and hard work. We truly loved our experience.

Just returned from having sunday lunch here and was bit disappointed after being recommended. The main meals were lovely as I had roast beef sirloin and my girlfriend had roast chicken. We both ordered sticky toffee pudding which looked like a small tub of microwave pudding with one scoop of ice cream and paid £8 for each pudding so £16 for a few mouth fulls, what a joke!! Didnt want to complain in front of everyone but should have said something at the time. Its a bit like when you have a bad haircut and walk out saying its lovely!!! Sorry spotted dog but felt mugged off so wont be back!!!

"We used to go to the Green Man a lot under the previous owners and thought we would give it a try again for our wedding anniversary with our children. Bit of a mistake! You can see they are trying to improve the quality of the food, which was always good anyway but poor training and terrible service really let it down tonight. So we sat at 17:30 and it was 15 mins before we were offered drinks, not a massive deal. Food order another 10 mins. Both the kids ordered burgers so I specifically asked if there was mayonnaise in the burgers and if the coleslaw was separate and was told no mayo in burger and coleslaw separate. Starter sharing mezze was OK except only 2 bits of halloumi (for 4 people) and odd tasting sandy brown coloured olives. So the burgers turn up and have coleslaw chucked on the plate right on the burgers and mayo in the buns. So they went back and “replacements” came back from the kitchen very quickly which were the same burgers just in new buns with no mayo and the coleslaw in ramekins. Then the wife’s fish and chips. Looked nice and waited for service to offer condiments however seems we are being left alone now we said about the burgers. So she starts tucking in and finds a short dark black human hair on the plate. So that gets sent back. To be fair to the chef came out and apologised that he had not put his bandana on and unfortunately one of his hairs had fallen on the plate. OK forgive that once and say thank you for apologising. However it’s the same but if fish (as the wife had picked a bit off the end) and probably the same chips. Lovely. Then we totally get left alone. The kids were enjoying the burgers but slightly over salted and the water had run out so we thought get more water so they can finish and that someone would come near, which they did but to serve the tables around us and completely ignore us, even when trying to get attention. So in the end we get up (and could totally have walked out without paying and none of the staff would have been any the wiser) that’s not us though, so we paid. Told the chap at the bar that we had to come to the bar as we had been totally ignored (him being one of the many staff fawning over the people on the tables around us) and he just said OK handed the receipt. Now was the time for an apology, maybe even some sort of discount (which most places just do regardless) but no, nothing, no apology, no discount. Not bothered about the money So I paid in full and will be extremely unlikely to (read will never) set foot in the place again as there was no attempt at apology. Happy wedding anniversary! When you book there is a question “is it a special occasion” which we put yes it was our wedding anniversary and no acknowledgment so they obviously ignore those bits on the bookings. It felt like it was very clicky, like if you are known or are loaded you get looked after. Not a place for mere mortals."
