"We decided to dine at Grange Farm for our Friday dinner instead of eating locally in the city center, opting to spend £16 on a taxi to get there. While we typically have no complaints about the food at Grange Farm, on this occasion we were a bit disappointed. My partner ordered the Lamb Shank for £20 and felt that the price-performance ratio did not meet our expectations. The dish lacked sufficient vegetables, leaving him wanting more. I chose the traditional gammon and eggs, priced at £8 less than the Lamb Shank, but still found it underwhelming compared to similar dishes we have had at Greene King Pubs. Despite this, our waitress Jess was fantastic, the bar staff were attentive as usual, and the drinks helped to salvage the evening despite the disappointing food. We suggest that the chef reconsider the offerings of both dishes to improve the overall dining experience."

(Choosing to pay £16 to get you by taxi) Usually we would not have any complaints about the food. He had to attack for vegetables because there was hardly anything served with the dish. I went with a traditional gammon and eggs, and I also felt underwhelmed by him (even if it was at least £8 less), as we often had in Greene King Pubs and had better. Needless to say, our waitress Jess was brilliant, bar staff were as attentive as they are usually and how the alcohol flows, the disappointing food does not ruin our night. Perhaps the chef could revise the offer of both dishes!"

"After hearing rave reviews, my dining companion and I were eager to try The Bull for the first time. While we enjoyed our lamb Sunday dinner, we felt that there could have been more vegetables. The menu promised 'Karoten and Papageien', but only one of each was included. The addition of salad leaf to a roast dish seemed out of place. The lamb itself was delicious and tender. Perhaps a rosemary-based seasoning would have been more appropriate than a Yorkshire pudding."

"Hotel is under new ownership. They are updating and it looks so much better than previous photos you may find on the internet. There’s still a ways to go. Beds are extremely “firm”. Individual rooms are decorated with lots of billowing dusty fabrics, and still need a lot of updating. You may be scalded while showering if another guest flushes the toilet or turns on the cold water anywhere in the building. The showers in general need to be addressed. Shower curtains were flimsy plastic that blow around while you shower and stick to you… which is not pleasant especially because they’re mildewed in places. The staff was extremely friendly. Sitting in the lounge and enjoying a drink from the bar was a highlight. The main area of the hotel is very nicely re-done, and staff treat you well. Would visit again as I met the owner and can tell he’s working to improve it."

"The place is cute, the menu interesting, the cocktails creative. It’s exactly the sort of place you think you’re going to love. Unfortunately it all falls apart in execution. Feels brilliantly designed and under-managed. The poached eggs in the huevos rancheros were wildly over cooked and the rest of the dish under-seasoned. The tortillas in the chilaquiles, which, classically, should be both the textural and flavor foundation of the dish, gently softened by the sauce but still toothy,were straight from the bag, barely covered in sauce, forming a distractingly crunchy and dry mass beneath what might have been an interesting cover. In both cases, you sort of got what the executive chef had in mind, but equally clear that the line is undertrained. Last, the service, while fine, also shows signs of under-management. Stations left uncleared long after guests had departed, no attempt to upsell a second drink, etc. The one major positive was the cocktail, a grapefruit and tequila combination that was both interesting in conception and well balanced. I might have had two of anyone had asked."

"eat very disappointing for the price. only 2 main course choices for gluten-free and no gloomy out of ice that I felt was exorbitant £5-50 for 3 small creatures of average quality ice. I had super salat, nothing super about it just 2 small cubes mango, tiny pieces sparingly, a few wide beans on a buck water cream and leaves, huh was over boiled! other meal in our party, lamb was hard, lasagne salty, schinitzl jäger huh cut, heavy lack of vegetables too. everything in all, only firm and love on our table made it pleasant. "The restaurant needs significant improvements. The roast dinners were warm, not hot, the roast potatoes were appalling, and the food lacked proper presentation. Meals were served in a strange order, with main courses coming before starters. One starter was offered an alternative sauce, but it arrived with no sauce at all. The customer service was poor, with two main meals never arriving despite others who arrived after us receiving their meals. When we finally asked for a refund for the missing meals, it took a long time for someone to figure out how to process it, and there was no apology or friendliness, just a cold attitude."

M y only disappointment this time was the fact that three basins and a hand drier were all out of order, leaving only one working not really acceptable during a continuing pandemic. "This pub/restaurant is wonderfully spacious,full of character and in a lovely park like location ideal for covid times. We last visited in May, when we gave it 5* for service. This time we were disappointed. Our lunch took 3 hours the staff seemed more concerned to stand at the bar drinking and chatting than attending to the clients, and they were not all very friendly or welcoming. Perhaps the current countrywide staffing shortages are to blame. We shall not be in a hurry to return."
