"just now NEW Called in today after a ceremony at a local church- I recommended The Tolka House to the group as we eat there at least once a week as a family. It was a little after 12 and practically empty. We intended to mark the occasion with tea/coffee-a celebration cake and then have some lunch as a group of 7. We had previously been advised that reservations cannot be taken on a Sunday-which was fair enough. We opened a tab and ordered drinks. One of our party had to leave early so we asked for some plates to cut our cake. We were told permission would have to be sought first…a few moments later we were approached in a very indiscreet manner to advise “as he would put it-you wouldn’t bring a pizza to a restaurant to eat it”. We were all stunned at the manner of delivery and lack of discretion involved, especially as there was a young child involved. Had we been asked to pay a cost towards plates etc. we’d have been more than happy to do so. So with a tearful 8 year old who had just been baptised-we paid our tab and left. The irony was not lost on us that we personally witnessed many tables in this establishment very recently commandeered by numerous confirmation parties-all of whom had boxed cakes and balloons on the tables….why no consistency in their policy? Not a single person present in our party today will ever spend another penny in The Tolka House-and we are all locals and business owners ourselves. Very shortsighted indeed."

I was at a rally in the vicinity and this bar was one of the only bars willing to serve food to us. It seemed that some places were unable to accommodate our group. View menu

Nice pub, staff and decent carvery. But this place seems like it could be better. A lot of money spent doing it up but they must have got the Wetherspoons light engineer in to do the lighting. In other words too bright! Good outdoor area also. Doesn't get too many locals unfortunately View menu

Hard to write bad reviews, but this place... Omg. I think they really need to find person to run kitchen properly. Food so poor, my pizza looked like frozen ready one from shop, and it was raw inside! Of course we've got refund with no problem , and staff were very kind and friendly, but I don't think I would like to go back there. Sad, because place has potential...

"it is all to change again, but thanks to the coffee is ace really top notch, shaded and perfectly roasted. funny enough while we find the rich from latte to macchiato, cappuccino by flat white etc. gibraltar is nowhere to find, not as much as. the customized glass. the personal remains as cheerful as always, despite the fact that their business must be desperate, and their reasonable prices remain the same. it's only here again with another lock-off, but the policy doesn't call it a lock. These people are still paid, they enjoy nominated wage increases (imaginable that they can decide on their own wage increases and who have recently given their support staff (in many cases family members a wage (and associated pension) increase. maya like so many companies have lots of things at a theke near the door to sanitise and here is the thing that the type that makes the coffee I can go, feet stand from him and give him money to pay and take a coffee and change from him. but if he had this machine in his kitchen, I couldn't go for a free coffee in his house. I could work with him all day, but I could not sit for a beer with him in a local bar for half an hour, but we could meet in the local church for an hour service. So look. So they think about how important it is to help small independent, especially in these strange times when the only certain are dead, control and grab money, dishonest politicians."
