"Beautifully restored historical hotel dating back to 15th century with original beams throughout. Quaint and charming with lovely rooms. Ours, room 1 had a modern refurbished bathroom and was a lovely size equipped with day bed, king beds, dressing table, drawers and wardrobe with ample space. Breakfast must not be missed, this is one of the best places to eat in the village with a reputation for perfect Sunday roasts. Our cooked breakfasts were delicious with lots of choice from full English, eggs royale, vegan and vegetarian options plus cereals, yogurt and granary. Decent sized car park and there are some converted barn rooms that I believe are wheelchair accessible. Lovely friendly staff. Highly recommend."

"Posting on behalf of Wife. Humiliated in front of other diners purely for coming in with a double pram. One female member of staff pointed at newborns babies saying they can’t accommodate that ‘thing’. It’s small enough to fit through a single door so doesn’t take up much more space than a single pram! Even offered to put pram away and place chairs at the table to create more space which received huffs from staff around the inconvenience of having two sleeping babies in their chairs! Made to feel unwelcome and anxious for the duration of lunch so left swiftly within an hour. Fortunately other diners were lovely but staff are in serious need of training on how to treat customers. Numerous new mothers struggle with anxiety going out with babies and that kind of treatment of an individual struggling could have a serious impact on their mental health. Disgusting behaviour."

"Where do I even begin… Unfortunately I have nothing other than negative and disappointing feedback. A large group of us went for lunch at the Mill and ordered 2 sharing platters of meat to start and separate dishes for main course. Due to there being a large group of us we were sat in the hallway next to a dirty popcorn machine and a candy floss maker. Right from the get go the service was applauding, it took us 30 minutes to receive our drinks and an hour and 10 minutes to receive our cold meat starters. By which point we had all finished our first round of drinks. We had mentioned to the waitress at this point our starters had taken a long time to arrive and rather than being apologetic she rudely dismissed us and told us that wasn’t the case. We then received our mains another 40 minutes after the starters and quite honestly they were shocking, not one of us was happy with our mains. The homemade burger buns were drier than the Sahara desert, the burger meat was over cooked and poorly seasoned, the pizza and the pork were saltier than I am writing this review. After eating we asked to speak with the manager who was also one of the chefs. He began to inform us that he was extremely disappointed in us for not liking his food and didn’t care for our complaints. After this the waitress called one us a liar twice! Once the manager had finished telling us about how upset he was with us he walked off and refused to listen to the rest of our complaints. We asked if they would be happy to come to some arrangement on the bill and they were having none of it. Overall the service was awful, the staff were rude, the food was poor and atmosphere dull. 100% do not recommend unless you enjoy a ruined meal."

"the lunch had been booked to meet with a friend. the employees were very attentive and in court we were allowed to see the menu and preorder the food while we were chatting in the bar area. we were called to the table and the service was very professional and fast, with the additional incentive that the waitress also took a drink order. I chose the gammon and my friend the fish, but regrettably both were meal tepid and my friend had to send the fertilizers to be heated again as they were very cold. the waitress replaced the items, but the size of the chips made them unpalatable as they did not seem to be thoroughly cooked. I am noticeable that there were high-time preparations, but we (and a second couple) were the only in the restaurant the staff was very professional, but the meal was disappointing my friend ordered a sweet as extra, as she remained hungry the sweet was fantastic. "Booked for New Year's Eve. £69.99 per head. Service adequate but I have to say the food was not good. Pre prepared and not fresh. The amuse bouche was a piece of French bread with smoke salmon, more like a badly done canape. The Starters were accompanied by limp salad, the plates they were served on very cold evidencing they had just been sitting uncovered in a fridge. Very odd rock hard goat's cheese, and for others, 3 tiny pieces of dry sardine. As for the main, beef wellington, the fillet of beef overcooked and resembled a piece of shoe leather, I doubted it was even fillet. The pastry was raw on the inside and undercooked, and soggy on the outside. Think had been pre cooked and microwaved. Worst beef wellington I have ever seen. We all sent back and chef offered rack of lamb.Sadly this was presented raw, not rare, with huge chunks of broccoli, soggy roast potatoes and carrots. Those who ate fish said was adequate, but the spinach and ricotta filo main had by one was also raw and underdone. As for the apple tart, again some received ice cold from the fridge, others luke warm although the flavour was good. Actually spoilt New Year's Eve and we left hungry. What was even more annoying is that I believe we were not charged for 2 bottles of wine, but were expected to pay for the nasty food. I would rather have paid for the £60 wine. I will be contacting the restaurant owner for a full refund, minus the wine. I can't believe we were actually charged £75 a head for the meal, pretty disgraceful in my opinion. We actually doubted whether there was a chef in the kitchen......"

"We arrived on Mother's Day, having traveled from near Preston, only to find out that there was a mix-up with our reservation, and we didn’t have a table! It was disgraceful. We were directed to another venue where we were assured we would be accommodated. However, by the time we arrived, our lunch booking had been mistakenly changed to a dinner reservation. With three small children who were hungry and tired from the journey, it made for a very unpleasant experience. The staff at the alternative venue, Brook Meadow Hotel, did their best to make up for the chaos created by Sheldrakes, but there were several others in the same predicament as us. We will not be booking with Sheldrakes again. As a poor attempt to make amends, we were offered a free bottle of wine, which was shocking!"

"I booked this 2 months ahead but there wasn’t a table ready. When we asked it was like they were doing us a favour by allowing us to sit together. Of all the red wines on the menu they only had 1 available, so no choice. After 2 couples left we were the only people there. The food, however, was really good. Beautifully cooked and presented"

"We arrived a bit early but our table was already prepared. Good quality crackers! It was a surprise to find there was live music, and the pub was beautifully decorated. The service was VERY efficient, friendly and seamless, THANK YOU. The food was delicious, and served well timed. A few room for improvement comments there seemed to be a mix up with how many deserts had been ordered ie only one desert....and despite only one being served, 2 appeared on the bill! Also the mince pie served had part of the pastry missing. This was pointed out but the mince pie was not replaced, for a complete one.....hence the food not getting Outstanding . And the pub had run out of NZ Sauvignon blanc, but the House white was very drinkable! Music did get louder at one point which made it very difficult for us to talk!! But over all we had a great time, and would definitely recommend and go again. Thanks to all the staff and the chef!"

"I just had a vegetarian bagel at this restaurant about 5 minutes ago. It was a toasted bagel filled with grilled halloumi, chili mayo, lettuce, and fresh orange slices. The combination was surprisingly delicious, especially paired with their freshly squeezed orange juice. I don't usually go for vegetarian options, but I really enjoyed this meal. The staff was also very friendly and the atmosphere was nice and cozy."

"Had a great overnight stay at the Spread Eagle Inn at Sawley, after a lovely afternoon walk from the pub front door (leaflets are available at the bar) we checked in about 4pm. We received a friendly welcome on arrival then we were directed to our room, the whole of the building was spotlessly clean, tidy and well maintained, looked as though it had had a recent refurb. Our room was the same, warm comfortable and very clean including the bathroom. The food in the restaurant was great both for dinner and breakfast, the staff were amazing and really looked after us, nothing was too much trouble. We’ll definitely be returning."

"Went for a family celebration meal. Service was very attentive and friendly with no airs and graces – just solid, down-to-earth Yorkshire friendliness. As The Bay Horse was always first and foremost a traditional 'pub ', they have had to adapt over the years to focus on the food offering and I think they have managed it really well – the small menu still manages to cater for most tastes and they were easily able to cater for 'off menu ' requests (none of the 'sorry, that 's how the meal comes ' nonsense you get in chain restaurants). The food came out promptly, was nice and hot, and it certainly all appeared to be freshly-cooked. Yes, we had a couple of hiccups (one meal was accidentally missed off for example), but it was dealt with sensibly. Prices were a little on the high side for pub food, but to be fair, we have seen that quite a lot recently so I assume it 's just inflation (for example, simple things like bangers and mash, that I 'd normally expect to be around £12, were £16). Overall we were very happy with our food and managed to eat almost every last bit, although that left some of us feeling rather full as the portions are quite generous."
