"first of all, we easily found our table as we were guided by some very friendly staff, and nearly as soon as we were seated had drink orders taken by a very friendly waiter. we ordered the classic 2 for 1 margaritas, which we really did not enjoy but I think this was down to us being wimps more than anything for food, i ordered the cali surf burrito and my boyfriend ordered the el reyes without guacamole, and then we shared some house fries. food was 50% off in january which we thought was a fab deal. i found the burrito portions a little bit too much, purely because the fillings were so rich, but enjoyed mine as much as I could have. I don’t usually like guacamole or pico de gallo either but I really liked it in this. my boyfriend really enjoyed his too the birria beef was really rich. the house fries were as good as fries can be too, although the sauce was not really chipotle mayo, more a lightly flavoured mayo, but no complaints here as i love mayo. to finish off, we ordered some of the blue raspberry frozen margaritas and I was worried they’d be too icy to drink but we found it quite easy and they were lovely. all of the servers were very helpful and attentive my only complaint is that there is a lot of noise in comparison to the sizes of the dining room for reference, we were there from around 4.30 to 6.15. overall a very nice experience with pleasant food and good drinks, if not a bit overpriced in places."

"This, our local café, normally closes in the late afternoon about 17:00 this time of year; but occasionally it opens up on a Friday evening, until late, to provide a tapas evening with live music. These are occasions which we try to support as much as we can. Tonight was the latest of three such events that we have enjoyed supporting; it was also the last of the, I believe, four summer events have been held. The format, was as before, to stagger table reservation times to allow the kitchen to efficiently produce plates to order. This reservation system helps avoid what could be bottlenecks, that would surely result, if too many orders flood in at the more popular times. The menu is the same for all of these events; our preferences were again to the fore for certain plates, as follows: Chicken Skewers Greek style marinaded with yoghurt. Vegetable Spring Rolls with sweet chilli dip crispy, crunchy rolls filled with savoury mix of vegetables. Lamb kofta balls with tzatziki dip. Patatas Bravas crispy potatoes in a salsa brava with a creamy aioli. Skin on fries. It was once again a much enjoyed meal and, on this occasion, we had invited my Son to join us. He really enjoyed the plates and the atmosphere. Wine: we chose a bottle of the ‘Definition Pinot Grigio’ from north eastern Italy: very complex and much enjoyed: excellent. This bottle was my Son’s contribution to the evening (apart from, of course, his company). We followed that with a bottle of the ‘Pringle Bay’ Sauvignon Blanc from the Western Cape, South Africa: this was very good; wonderfully refreshing. My Partner and I paid for that one! Wine here is not too expensive, especially bearing in mind the quality. A note to say that the Patatas Bravas plate was excellent on this occasion, because the potatoes were indeed crispy. Our favourite plate, for all three of us, was however the ‘Vegetable Spring Rolls’. These were absolutely fabulous, such a great texture. If this plate was regularly featured on the menu, I am sure it would be a very popular choice. The provision of a sweet chilli dipping sauce is a masterpiece of culinary inspiration. The music for all of these events was a duo singing covers of popular songs accompanied by acoustic guitars. They use guitar mics to amplify the music an their vocals. On previous occasions the band have not been too loud; sadly tonight they were. There were times that we couldn’t hear each other speak, and my Partner had to twice ask the band to tone it down. There is a time and place for loud music and this wasn’t it."

"it was my daughter’s 17th birthday and we gave her the choice of where to go for a meal. We’re a vegan family that live in mid Cornwall, but she really wanted to go to Plymouth and this was her first choice. Her dad called the restaurant a few times to try to book for later that evening but no one answered we didn’t want to leave a message asking for a booking and waiting for a reply as if it was already booked up we would need to book somewhere else and it would be too late, not knowing if/when we would get a call back in time. We decided to just take our chances and took her to Plymouth shopping, where her dad tried again to call when we arrived in Plymouth but to no avail. We arrived at the restaurant around 6pm and were relieved to see only one other small group eating and a delivery courier waiting. There was no staff around and we wasn’t sure if we just took a seat or not so we walked down a bit to find someone when a waitress walked out from the kitchen area. There was no smile, no greeting and my partner said hello asked if we just take a seat and we were met with being told to go back to the seating area next to the door and wait. It didn’t feel nice and we looked at each other but waited why she dealt with the courier (it was only then, I noticed a sign behind me, so wouldn’t have seen as walking in, saying to please take a seat in waiting area). When the waitress came to us, we asked if we could have a table for 3 we were met with a very long winded message and felt like we were being told off! I managed to interrupt when she got to the part about how we should have called ahead to book and explained we had tried a few times but she said we should have left a message and continued her speech. My partner then stopped her and said, ‘wait, so can we eat here or not?’ and she continued her speech again and said she would have to check the bookings, so my other half said, ‘ so can you do that then?’ we were literally baffled by now as couldn’t believe the reception we were getting and my daughter was really uncomfortable we stayed calm as it was her birthday, otherwise I would have told her off for the way she was dealing with us. The woman went off to check the book and as she was flicking through I turned to my family and said, ‘I’m not happy with the way she’s talking to us, I don’t want to eat here now.’ It was embarrassing as we were stood near the one other group who were hearing us effectively being told off for coming to the restaurant. Anyway, we decided to just leave. We ended up eating elsewhere, where we were immediately welcomed, despite it being very busy. The difference was unbelievable, I’m so glad we didn’t stay and my daughter was cheered up. Samphires need some staff training, but we won’t be back anyway."

"Recommended to come here and eat before attending a concert. Found a table and sat down and after 10mins a waitress came and took our order which was our starters and mains. Starter arrived in good time we had the fireman's sharing board which was really nice and big enough for four people to share and our 2 for 1 cocktails also arrived in good time and were nice. Then after that it went downhill we waited over an hour after we had finished our starter for our mains I asked a waitress to see where our meals were when clearly we knew we had been forgotten about she never came back with an answer so with my patience wearing thin I asked a gentleman with a clip board who was directing people to tables . He said he would look into it and came over after about 5 mins to apologise it was their mistake and our order had been missed and offered us a free drink. My friend and I asked for a vodka and lemonade and another a Disarano and coke and a bottle of water which arrived within 6 minutes. Our vodka and lemonades had never seen vodka you couldn't taste it at all but my friend said he could taste his Disarano. We waited another 10 minutes and our mains arrived three of us had posh finger sandwiches and the other had a steak sandwich which she left as it was dripping in fat and the roll was barely baked. Our posh fish finger sandwiches were also dripping in fat with no taste we asked for extra tartar sauce to be told by a different waitress that its in the sandwich so in other words your not getting anymore. There was barely any in. We all ate them as we were hungry but they were poor. We asked for the bill and paid and went elsewhere for a cuppa. We know it was busy with being a pink concert on at the stadium of light I personally don't think there was enough staff on to cope with the volume of people so our first visit put us off from ever returning."
