"what a great little supplement to the greenwich food scene. Actually, it is not so little, but it is really great, especially considering how central it is to the tourist scene in greenwich. it's expensive, don't get me wrong. if they are planning to come here, they make it for a Friday night, for a party, for a start. Do not do what we have done, what appeared on a Monday night, just because we happen to have no food in the refrigerator, the kind of feeling just do not do it just justice. the place has a funky and hip feel about it. also the menus look cool and stylish. they have a great drink choice also for the non-drinker among us and know that I had a naughty week of eating ahead, I went for the healthy and durst quenching gurken juice. the menu is a bit overwhelming when they first visit, although they come with some helpful set menus when they are stuck to choose. we only need to order our menus for almost 20 minutes indecisively on what to eat. there re the sushi options and then there are the sticks. Each stick costs a lot for the size, but they have a large number of choices. I had a teriyaki lachsstock and delicious scallops in a crispy. the spicy edamame and absolutely divine cauliflower with black truffle sauce delivered our sweet for the evening and I could fortunately have eaten nothing except this cauliflower all night here. my man then chose one of the salads for a little more filling with huh and duck while I chose the nebel cod rolls. pleasantly full, we should have stopped there, but we were too tempted to order as desserts, in smll bites and as many or as few as they would like to order. we went for the black sesameis, a delicious chocolate fondant and 2 small chocolates including one covered with sesame seeds. if they 're feeling vey indulgent, they even order a box with all desserts included, but we'll have to save this for another time. this would be a great restaurant for a birthday, for a fun night with friends or for a little occasion. it is a little expensive in comparison to some of the neighboring sushi restaurants that are also very much to wish but it has a bit more novelty. if after a quick fix for a sushi gift or a light mid-week meal, these other decisions could be better suited, but for something special and unique, this is definitely worth a try and a very welcome supplement to greenwich."

"update april 2022 since my first review already often. Her hearty Vietnamese dishes are great, I had some of the tofus. they also enjoy more puddings, including various fruit crumbs/bakers, the Empire Biscuit, and today an amazing skyberry and coconut tea on a short bread basis, with vegan ice. yum. original review first time in pumpernickel, as I heard it had gone completely vegetarian and vegan. they have kept their usual menu, but all the options are vegetarian/vegan (zb veggie ham, bacon' etc.) one of the owners is vietnamesian and so we have tried these hot rolls, and two different tofuss all fabulous! they came with roasted rice and salate and dipping sauce. it was obviously busy, we went around 2 o'clock and only a few tables were left, but then it was still. the board had the specials on, all sound great and are good. only two suggestions label, the dishes are vegan or vegan (i.e. some of the noodles are not suitable), and maybe have a few vegan cakes. (they had a big cake ad, but currently not vegan we are going back. the update was returned at the beginning of October 2021. tried the crepes (nice! hearty minze' and bohnenprouts inside) and friend had the Thai veg burger, also good. Apple crumbcake. friend had taken along before and had vegan skyberry cake. was busy fri 12-2, but other days in the week are quieter. updated by previous review on 2022-04-30"

"Have previously dined at the Hinds Head which was impeccable from arrival to the end, staff were wonderful and knowledgeable and food was divine. The Crown sadly does not have the same standards. On arrival table was not ready which was fine, waited at the bar and then seated. Staff weren’t overly attentive, very chatty amongst themselves behind the bar. After being seated the service was very slow, we felt like we had been forgotten. It took 30 minutes to take the drinks order after my husband had to prompt staff. We ordered our food whilst the staff were at the table. Bread and whipped butter was delicious, fish cakes very average, heavy on potato lacked seasoning, aioli accompaniment was excellent. Beef blade main, meat was well cooked, fell apart, carrots too al dente, dumpling was raw and just lacked dept of flavour, the whole dish was under seasoned and arrived almost cold. My husband enjoyed his barvette beef and roast potatoes though we had to ask for the garlic butter which was forgotten. Dessert sticky toffee pudding overly sickly sweet and vanilla ice cream grainy and lacking flavour. My husband ice cream trio had the same issues of grainy texture and lacking flavour . Both desserts were inedible , a cartmel sticky toffee pudding and laverstock farm ice cream would have been a better substitute. Throughout dinner, the staff were less than attentive, lacking knowledge and busier chatting between themselves. Do not be fooled by the allure of Heston, he’s obviously too busy to be consider the standards of his no starred pubs! Sell it to someone local with a desire for it to do well!"

"We went to Civerinos last week to tuck into a slice of Italy and to have a chat with Michele the owner on why this Italian has been getting rave reviews all over the internet and is hit with the locals. Civerino’s is located just off the Royal Mile near the Tron Kirk in Hunter Square and serves a fanatastic selection of family recipes handed down through Michele’s family, Italian street food and of course Pizza by the slice or whole. In contrast to the overpriced restaurants offering, as a general rule, fairly low quality food, Civerinos is the real deal and very competitively priced. The beautiful glass door way opens into a minimalist style canteen with long tables and an open kitchen where the smell of food drifts tantalizingly from. The staff are super welcoming giving a real easy going family feel to the place. The owner Michele is often sat at the bar and came to talk to us about his plans for the restaurant and the upcoming Festival season. It is easy to see why the food at Civerino’s is so good when you meet Michele. His enthusiasm and passion for Italian food and the business is inspiring and infectious! He is so excited by the fresh produce, especially after a recent trip with the kitchen team to source new products and try out new ideas resulting in some fabulous new gorgonzola croquettes, Italian salamis and porcini mushroom sauce to mention a few of the tasty new treats. He certainly loves his food and takes pride in his family’s heritage. Civerino’s is an expression of this passion great food from the heart; timeless, classic recipes using exceptional fresh ingredients that would last forever. A long term Edinburgh resident and foodie Michele loves eating at many of the local establishments and is very complementary about many of his neighbours including fellow street food success Ting Thai Caravan where he loves to go for his dinner and Ninja buns, who are now providing the food at Paradise Palms. With the restaurant’s first festival season approaching fast they are keen to ensure they still manage to save some space for their regular followers and will be saving a table at the back just for those who have booked before, they will also be open late so you can head over after your shift too. Seating outside should help them to catch the eye of the passing traffic as will their new Gelato bike set to appear very soon! On to the food – having tried the fabulous pizzas on a different occasion we decided to embark on trying out the rest of the menu. Mix and match home made pasta varieties and sauces featuring pig cheek carbonara and slow cooked beef ragu are sure to be a crowd pleaser and there are some really exciting antipasti dishes if you can draw your gaze away from the pizza menu that is. We decided on the parsley and chilli calamari, beef meatballs in mushroom sugo, Steak tagliata with wild rocket salad and Zuccini fritti. The food is served on sharing style boards with individual paper plates, so you can get stuck in and help your self in unpretentious communal dining style. We were very impressed with all our dishes, light crispy battered zucchini was really tasty, well cooked steak with roast tomatoes and rocket was the stuff of dreams believe me, and of course crispy calamari with aioli was just about perfect, but the rich tasty porcini sauce with the meatballs was a stand out winner at our table. We were dipping everything in it! The wine and beers are all really well priced and they have a frozen cocktail too! Featuring popular Italian favorites including Negroni and Aperol Spritz. Desserts are also pretty awesome we were recommended to try the Tiramisu but didn’t have space after our feast so it will have to be saved for our next visit. I am so pleased to have discovered this exciting gem of a restaurant right in the centre of all the festival action and cant wait to go back for more. Especially for their late night pizza and great music on until the early hours throughout the summer of Edinburgh’s festivals, and the terrace set in Hunter Square where you can sit and watch the crazy world of the Royal Mile go by!"
