"LAVA is definitely an alternative way to dine, an experience I won’t forget. It’s a cozy little restaurant with limited seating so booking is recommend. We both had the 10oz beef fillet which is served with a good sized jacket potato and fresh veg. We where given instructions on best way to cook the steak to our liking. It was extremely enjoyable and can’t wait to visit again. The staff are extremely friendly and very attentive. This is a take bring your own restaurant only serving soft drinks. There is a spar shop about 1 minute away which offers a large selection of beers and wines. The all gender toilet is very fresh and clean in all areas. There is a selection of perfumes and antiperspirants to use free of charge which is a nice gesture. Well worth a visit if you in the area, it’s a great bit of fun."

On a holiday break first time in this part of the country. We were familiar with the “lava stone cooking concept” having enjoyed the experience many times on holiday in the Algarve but first time here in the UK. Restaurant is situated in the quaint... View menu

Amazing place and the restaurant owner, Chloe rebooked us and gave us a generous discount because her oven had broken on the night of our original booking, which obviously couldn’t be helped She really went above and beyond to rectify the situation, and it’s great...

Excellent restaurant, highly recommend going here for the food, service and experience of cooking on a hot stone to get the meat exactly as you want it. Very good value for money as you take your own drinks so keeps the cost of a meal out down. All the food we had was superb, definitely worth a trip to Conwy for

This was a fantastic experience. Cooking on stones at the table was fun. The tuna was sushi grade and the portions were generous. One of us had salmon with the same experience. This is a must do in Conway. It is BYOB but the grocery across the street has a reasonable selection of wines and there is a wine store 4 doors away. View menu

Absolutely wonderful. I booked the restaurant and I was told it was BYO alcohol, so we brought along our own bottle of red wine. I have never been to one of these restaurants before (where you have to cook on a hot stone) but it was wonderful. We had the trio of meat to share and it was lovely to cook this yourself on the hot stone. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area!

We went for a ‘special occasion’ at the start of March. There appears to be two evening sittings 6pm and 8pm … and even this early in the season the 6pm sitting was really busy .. So book early !! The service was great very attentive and not pushing at all. They do not provide drinks with the service but guess what ? You can take your own and they will see be you with glasses and ice at no charge! The food was marvellous and we had ours on a hot platter and cooked the meat ourselves Overall a very pleasant evening thank you !

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
