"late for a meal at what we found out was the karneval day of the city. the workers were understandably rushed by the feet, but were nothing but helpful and accommodating. we found ourselves a table in a quiet room on the back where we could sit with our young puppies. they offered us water for the dogs as soon as we sat down and warn us, it could be a wait for eating as it was so busy. within 10 minutes of ordering, four of the best steak burgers we have ever eaten. the staff was so polite and helpful and we will definitely come back!"

"Inside the restaurant was nicely decorated and the staff were friendly. We all enjoyed our desserts, but the food had several issues: I did not like the cod loin which was served as fish and chips. It had a very unpleasant texture and I could not eat half of it. When I was ordering the dish I was warned that this is not a regular fish and chips but a fine seafood dish, but I had expected it to at least include chips as the name suggests, which turned out not to be included and I had to order that separately. Burgers (beef and vegan) were okay but a bit expensive for the quality. They brought to our table a bottle of wine which was already opened. The waiter did not open the bottle in front of us, did not offer a taste, and did not pour the wine. There was another minor mistake with the food order which they fortunately fixed quickly. So, overall, we feel we have been overcharged for an average quality food and service."

"I came here while visiting Oxford around 11am on a Friday. The restaurant is rather small, there were a couple tables empty and it was rather busy but we got sat immediately. Unfortunately it appeared as only one woman was tending all of the tables in the restaurant but she moved pretty well. Within a reasonable time we got our order taken, and drinks came right away. Our food came shortly after, we ordered the HB full house and the Fava toast black eyed beans. Both meals were absolutely outstanding. According to the menu, everything is made from scratch in house and that really truly shows. The flavor and texture were great, and the food felt healthy and satisfying, and very nutrient dense. We left feeling like we had one of the best meals we could get on our trip so far. The Handle Bar is definitely a must visit spot on your trip to Oxford, in my opinion. I will go back next time I am in Oxford. The server was also very friendly and helpful as well."

"We have been to The embankment before and had a great meal. So booked for our anniversary, in at 7.30 and already items not available on the menu. It was burger night so I thought I would have something different. The salt cod burger with kimchi and sriracha sauce. It arrived as a battered piece of cod not salted in the traditional sense no kimchi or sriracha sauce. When asked for kimchi some sliced cabbage with not a hint of ferment came out. It was a nice fish burger but not what I asked for. Staff tried to apologise but didn’t really have a response. The burger night had not long started. They were unfortunately slammed so service was a bit slow but they did apologise for it. Bill came after deserts and coffee and not even a note or comp pud for a different course than expected. On a plus the frickles were the highlight of the meal and would recommend. Maybe it was an off night them but it certainly wasn’t a good night for us."

"There is no doubt this pub/restaurant will greatly appeal to the vast majority of people. It has been extremely well refurbished in line with current tastes and has a friendly atmosphere. I'm sure I'm in the minority by saying I would prefer to enter the pub, go straight to the bar and order a drink without being greeted at the entrance, with the assumption I've booked, or wish to book for a meal. However, I do appreciate this a now a common practice and seen as part of the welcome. It's good to see the New Inn has retained a comfortable area for drinkers which many establishments of this type don't do. Also wonderful to see Ben back behind the bar! The food looks good, although we have only had lunch here. It's great to find such a varied lunch menu but I'd rather the sandwiches, baguettes and wraps didn't automatically come with fries maybe a small side salad could be an alternative. Having said that, the crispy duck wrap is wonderful! A personal niggle I found the the piped music outside to be intrusive and unnecessary. I'm not aware of any other local pubs that impose this. The owners have clearly done a great job, though, hopefully establishing a very successful business in trying times for hospitality."

"What a fantastic find! A friend and I visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening around 8:30pm and were warmly welcomed by friendly locals and the staff. The landlord was also very pleasant. We were pleasantly surprised to find leftover roast potatoes from the Sunday menu placed around the bar and tables for patrons to enjoy for free. They paired perfectly with the pints of Guinness that I had. My friend couldn't get enough of them! We loved the cozy Chesterfield sofas next to the log burner, even though it wasn't lit due to the restaurant already being well-heated. The decor was beautiful and created a comfortable atmosphere. I have quickly grown fond of this place and highly recommend it. We plan to try the menu next time and will provide a review. Thank you for a lovely experience!"

"Came here for lunch with my family on Friday for a small bite to eat. One member off staff was running around by herself dropping food off and doing the bar. This therefor meant it took us a while when at the bar to get drinks to come with our food as no one was at the bar. There were also multiple other people waiting at the bar. The food was really good although only criticism is with the tacos to give a bigger plate as they are a messy dish and the tacos only just fit into the board before they start going everywhere"

"For the most part, the food was quite good. I anticipated high prices and was more than happy to order a few items, expecting a delicious experience. However, the crabby chips were absolutely disappointing. There was a relatively small portion of chips that were filled with a strange cheese and bone mixture, all completely drenched in cooking oil. After eating about seven chips, I felt quite queasy. There was at least a full centimeter of oil at the bottom of the plate. I voiced my concerns, but I didn’t receive a satisfactory explanation, and my complaint wasn’t addressed further. I would expect chips priced at £8.50 to be edible, and if they’re not, I would hope for at least a small discount."

"we had our wedding reception lunch here and it was wonderful. we wanted a double pub for 55 people and they really did it well. we were allowed to choose the one we wanted to sit in. they organized a pianist for us and founded a meeting so that we could discuss music. we were allowed to take our own champagne and only pay a cork fee that made the dinge cheaper. we had to cancel our high time and retire a year and were allowed to keep the booking without paying or paying our deposit. we took our own homemade decorations and coworkers have them out as desired. the menu was adapted for us to match our taste, was very diverse and all enjoyed their meal. there were no complaints from our guests. the land is beautiful. we have chosen the venue, because we have always found lunches/meals to be good if we jump in."

"Would give this place no stars if I could. I used to always order from this place no issues. Ordered today and my pizza was over done and hard and my chips were burnt. I called them and explained that my food is over done hard and burnt (photo attached) I expected a sorry and not a issue we will get another pizza out to you. Instead the lady argued with me put me on hold came back and said we have changed our cheese so all our pizzas are burnt today it’s a extra crispy style as we changed the cheese then said ‘ well what do you want me to do about it?’ After going back and fourth she said give us the food back and we will refund you the money. I told her me and my partner came back from work tired waited an hour so have had some of the pizza (2 slices each) as we were so hungry! She said that’s fine. Her delivery driver came then argued with me again and said what do you want? After again disputing he took the food. THEN she proceeded to call me on unknown at 9pm to Argue about a pizza again! Oh my god. The food at this place hasn’t even been too bad before but the way they handled this and the customer service is SHOCKING. Accept fault and rectify it not argue with your customers and say we changed our cheese our customers like a crispy extra done style. The food hasn’t even bothered us too much. It’s the fact I’ve had to debate with them over a pizza. Very poor customer service honestly don’t even bother with the way they call people looking for an argument over their own error. No people do not like Extra crispy burnt pizzas. If I’m paying and waiting then getting burnt food then having to re order and wait again then apologise and give me my money back without the lip! Lost us as customers for good. Check picture below my pizza was hard as a rock over done cheese was sliding off in one chunk :"

"I went here with my boyfriend for a few drinks and dinner before the cinema on Saturday night. It’s perfectly located near Angel station in a quiet, cool part of Islington. There was a relaxed atmosphere that was just bustling enough, and the staff were so nice. This is a vegan pub, which was great as we knew we could get any drink we wanted without having to get our phones out to check ingredients. There’s a good range of vegan burgers on the menu, along with cheesy polenta chips (delicious) and mozzarella sticks. All vegan! We had the hot seitan burgers and polenta chips and they were really great. Quick, friendly service and good portion sizes. A great place to come with a group of pals for a relaxing drink and food. Loved it!"

"We wish we had visited this restaurant earlier in our holiday and will definitely make it our go-to spot for future vacations! We had walked past this place many times over the years without ever going in, but during this holiday we saw a sign for Wood Fired Pizzas and decided to give it a try. We received a lovely warm welcome from Sylvia, who seated us by a window with a beautiful view of the sea. The service was excellent and our pizzas were delicious. Sylvia even let me sample the Annings cider before I ordered, which ended up being my favorite drink for the whole holiday. The atmosphere and decor were much nicer than it appeared from the outside. We booked a table for another evening and were thrilled to be seated by the window again as we had requested. Sylvia welcomed us back and recommended the Pork Schnitzel, which was also delicious. Reg (I believe, based on the receipt) provided excellent service as well. The entire staff was very attentive. The desserts were also delicious. They have tables outside on the veranda, where many people were enjoying the nice weather. The restaurant is dog-friendly, which led us to strike up conversations with other diners while petting their dogs. The restaurant and toilets were clean. We enjoyed a few drinks after our meal each time because we loved the atmosphere. Thank you to Sylvia and the staff for the fantastic food and service. "Went on Good Friday for a spot of early dinner it was very busy, we had booked a table the night before, yet this had not been organised so a Family was sadly turfed out of their table (where they were enjoying drinks), no sign had been put on table for our reservation until we actually arrived, to make clear to any patrons that it was reserved from a certain time. This happened again to another family sitting nearby enjoying drinks who were asked to vacate their table that they were occupying as it appeared the reservations had not been organised in advance.(they rightly refused but it makes it uncomfortable for both the current table occupiers and the reserver) Menus were tatty and stained and this made the food uninspiring so we ate food from the Pop Up Street Food outlets on the carpark (this was good and a great idea). Bar was unorganised with bar staff not being allocated areas, bar itself was sopping wet (bar mats or trays had not been put out) and when you eventually did get near bar you got wet. Poor choice of Wine also. Medicine Bakery has such a good reputation and is inspiring this is not, we had planned to make a night of it, but left early as didn`t feel comfortable."

"This is the first time I’ve visited beachside barbecue but I will definitely come back. We reserved a table as it was bank holiday and very busy. We were seated at a window booth with glorious views across the beach. Our waitress took drinks orders and left us to view the menu, there is also a fish specials board. The menu has lots of choice burgers, ribs, fish etc. We just went for a main meal (there’s no way we would’ve managed another course, portions are generous! . I had the fish burger which was served in a delicious brioche bun with a king prawn, calamari and homemade chips. It was absolutely delicious and very filling! Our waitress was lovely , very friendly and efficient. We will be back soon"

"I've been here four or five times now and have only positive things to say. The exterior speaks to this location's history as a local boozer, but inside, you'd be forgiven for not noticing that there is a lively bar at one end of the long dining room (handily separable by a curtain if the drinkers get too boisterous. I took my parents visiting London here the night they arrived. The service is attentive and friendly. The menu is genuinely interesting but not annoyingly avant garde. The open kitchen subtly suggests their (deserved pride in the quality of the cooking. Crab and avocado starter, crab soup with rouille (so crabby! and fresh beet salad started us off with confident and delicious flavours. For mains, we had in season grouse with classical fixings and a special of Bavette, simply prepared with horseradish sauce and some cress. Portions are just right. Couldn't have been happier. I have also had brunch there a number of times I particularly recall a wonderful dish of polenta and mushrooms that was like the plate good. Bottom line, I'm not quite sure why this place is not packed every night...it's bustly, but there were a few open tables. Old Street (especially west is oddly lacking in interesting spots. Thank goodness for The Three Crowns."
