"Went for dinner on Sunday evening, hadn’t booked a table but we managed to get a table. Staff very friendly and welcoming. I had chicken and sweetcorn soup for a starter. Very tasty and packed with chunks of chicken, a meal in itself. Next up was breaded fish and chips with lovely homemade tartare sauce, my partner had a steak pie with the seasonal vegetables which she really enjoyed. Both portions of food were very large and extremely tasty. Went to pay the bill and was very reasonably priced as well. Would certainly recommend and will definitely be back when in the area"

30 years since I’ve visited here. The steak pie was great then, and it’s still great. Excellent food, decent prices and Carol our host was a hoot. Thank you for a lovely lunch experience.. View menu

Fitted us in at the end if service on Sunday evening. Restaurant looked nice but seated in the bar because we had a dog. Simple food but enjoyable. Limited menu on a Sunday but full menu looked great.

We were staying at the motorhome stopover/aire..booked a dog friendly table in the bar which was quiet..there was a dashund and a working cocker in too.. Anyway,I think it was the landlord that dealt with us and couldnt fault any part of the visit-from ordering the drinks through to the puddings. I had three courses and my gf had two..the food AND drinks bill was very reasonable. Will deffo be back View menu

My husband had the fish chips and said it was OK... I had a steak veg.. The veg was very underwhelming... and luke warm... the waitress took it to be heated... no idea where though.. as when it did reappear... it was still cold.. rather than complain a second time... plus my husband had nearly finished his) I ate it... would I recommend or return... sadly not.. a lot of money for an over done steak cold veg..

We hadn’t booked a table, however we were gladly seated quickly. The surroundings were cosy with lovely original pictures on the walls. The service was friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the food was just average. Everything was of varying temperatures. We should have maybe let the kitchen know but we were out with a mix of family, for an anniversary weekend away and didn’t want to cause hassle. We had expected nice home made style food, however it did not live up to expectations, which was a shame.

"Overall, we had a disappointing family meal at the local restaurant. We booked for a table of 12 for my mum's birthday. We were the only table when we arrived. Another table of 2 arrived during our main course. There was a friendly informal server when we arrived though I got the impression he was not a formal waiter as he did not know much about the menu. He also disappeared after a short time. After this time, we were served by one of the kitchen staff. Obviously, this led to inadequate and slow service. The meals were served very slowly. We had no option to order more drinks throughout the meal. Our main course plates were not taken away after we finished and after waiting for a while we decided just to leave and get deserts at home. Some comments about the food. We were told when we first arrived that there were no steaks. That reduced our options considerably. However, what surprised us was one of the diners at the other table was served a steak! We were told that they do not have tomato sauce. This is highly unusual for a restaurant that serves steak, burgers and chicken tenders with chips. One of our party member nipped down the road to a local shop and bought a bottle ketchup for the table. The food was okay but we felt it was very one dimensional. A lot of the dishes were served in a similar manner with the same dressings and toppings. The chips were a little greasy. I would have wished that our experience was better but unfortunately it wasn't so. I understand how difficult it must be for the restaurant trade just now and we try and support local businesses. However, we would still expecting decent service and food. I tried to message the restaurant in the first instance for a response but have not received any reply."
