"Great food, lovely cosy surroundings and nice people, nothing not to like. Our second visit on our yearly pilgrimage north or the border. Our first visit was last year and we were on a fairly tight timescale, wanting to get done by 8pm to go and see the lone pipers tribute to the late Queen outside Ballater church (a very poignant moment), so the food whilst delicious was probably not savoured as much as it deserved. This time however we had no such time constraints and this allowed us to fully appreciate the food we were served and I can honestly say, for the price the food is some of the most tasty and flavoursome you can find. Service is fast, friendly and professional and food is served at a steady pace with plenty of “breathing room” between courses. They operate a fixed price 2 or 3 course menu which is varied and embraces lots of local produce and Scottish delicacies. Flavours throughout are rich, vibrant and multi-layered, something that I always rate highly. There is no need to add salt and pepper to any of the dishes I found, they all were delivered perfectly seasoned, which is an art in itself. Suffice it to say we loved it and even the spillage of a glass of Prosecco (which our server was so apologetic over) was quickly mopped up and didn’t dash our enthusiasm for this place. It is safe to say we will return every time we are in the area, well done to everyone involved and especially the chefs who quietly muster up great tasting food!!"

"Upon reading some of the reviews, I was unsure about ordering from this place. However, I can confidently say that it is one of the best burgers I have ever had. I opted for the double smash burger and the patties were fresh and well-seasoned. Adding an extra slice of cheese for 60p really elevated the burger to a 10/10. Despite not typically enjoying beef burgers, I will definitely be ordering from here again. The only reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5 is due to the disappointing sides. The chips lacked salt and were just standard skinny fries. The chilli cheese bites were tasty but slightly overpriced for a serving of four, and the onion rings were subpar. Overall, I was very impressed and will be a repeat customer."

"My wife and I have visited all of the Character Inns on the island and in each the staff have been very friendly. The Caulkheads is no exception, though this is our least favourite of the group. Despite being the nearest geographically to where we live on the island. It is perhaps because we have visited at quieter times, in winter, when the pub was still rather cold, that it has seemed less inspiring. Though admittedly, we have been disappointed by the food here too, which arrived slowly and less warm than I would have liked. perhaps again, due to being during colder weather, more difficult to keep hot. We haven't given up on The Caulkheads, we will try another visit sometime, perhaps in the Summer months."

"Great pub. Pre booked in advance in the casual dining section which is dog friendly. Really nice decor in inside. You order up at the bar. Great selection of drinks. Service was great and food was nice. Desert was definitely the best course, I had the eton mess and it was one of the nicest I've ever had. There's also a dog menu. Plenty of parking and easy to get too just off the motorway."

"The stars are for the staff who were lovely. My friend and I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans. They arrived my friend had about 10 beans on her potato i didn't fare much better. Sent them back, was told they were doing a new order. We had at least 15 beans on this occasion and a bit of melted mild cheese. Wish I had taken a photo as the filling was minute. Won't be going back."

"Fantastic place! A definite go to. Visited for the first time last night for a date night. We were served by Emily and Georgina and they were amazing. Really knowledgeable and super friendly and professional. We had halloumi and bao bubs to start, followed by half price steaks.. the filet is amazing. Than a biscoff martini for desert. The cocktail selection was great and really tasty. Would highly recommend."

"yesterday evening with a reservation for three of us visited for 18 o'clock. the restaurant was nicely busy! we ordered drinks beer and a very nice bottle Chilean merlot. the waitresses were extremely busy, but so pleasant and “smiley” was nothing too much annoyed even if my step vater accidentally knocked over his glass wee when the job was taken! all treated professionally and discreetly. the food came, though almost an hour after our booking, but since our reservation was an early evening and we had a light lunch, it was not a problem. the service and the quality of eating made it good to wait! my man and step vater ordered steaks rib auge and rump) cooked to their preferences med/well and med/rare) and I had the garlic chilihuh. we all chose rustic chips and had the other companions for our selected meal times. the food was delicious and plentiful! I couldn't finish my portions. my stepfather somehow managed to find space for dessert and enjoyed his brownie with ice cream. we loved the “Cowboy Hat” touch and wore it during the meal, so did the people on the next table). at the end of the evening my man asked our beautiful waitress to the bill as we wanted to cover the total) just to say that my stepfather had already paid. what a tasty bite! when we finally discovered the total bill, we were amazed at the fantastic value for money! the next time we stay with my stepfather in louth, we will definitely come back here for the great food, service, drinks and worth! many thanks to all the workers in the ranch steakhouse grill!"

"the ignorance of the food industry towards food allergies is frightening and the heart restaurant is an excellent example for this unpredictable ignorance. the restaurant was informed in advance about the heavy allergy of my daughter on seafood. they gave us a table next to the kitchen, because they ignore at the heart that an allergic reaction can be caused by breathing in steaming from the cooking of seafood or any food. they fry the chips in the same oil where they roast seafood and roast the meat at the same place where they fry the garnels. the alternative offered was a waiting period of 30 minutes, hoping that someone would go. they let us wait in a street where the other restaurants wore their müll and smoke the people. unnecessary to say that we have gone. when we add that the restaurant was aware that it was my 40th birthday and we were there to celebrate, the image of an absolute ignorance and inability becomes more complete. absolutely terrible experience. to avoid any event!"

"PHENOMENAL, the best fish and chips and they’re even gluten free! Mind blowing, I mean I’ve travelled all around Devon/England scouting out the best fish and chip place and it was by far the the crunchiest, scrummiest, and most freshly caught fish I’ve had in my life. The chips were too good, so much flavour and crunch. The mushy peas were delectable, the mint really made them so special. Rocket the dog was such a sweetheart! The pub itself was nice and clean and well decorated. Overall great atmosphere, fabulous food, and stellar drinks, couldn’t recommend enough!"

"We went for father's day so it was obviously quite busy so there was a slight wait for the mains but not too bad. Our tables had ketchup splodges welded to them which was a bit off putting especially as we were there for lunch so I thought it would have had to have been from yesterday... luckily I always have anti bac wipes on me so I cleaned it. My food was nice as usual at Beefeater, steak ale pie, my only gripe is the peas are always really bland, maybe petit pois would be nicer.. everyone else enjoyed their dishes as well, a few of us had steaks kids had goujons halloumi fries. Overall It was really nice here. Thanks"

"If I go there with my friends, we love it. the service is always wonderful from the staff who are immediately available to help and always with a smile on their faces to the chef who is always sure that everything is excellent for...the customer. food prices are quite good for the quality of the kitchen. eating is always well cooked and we don't have to wait long to be served. I have tried all foods and they are wonderful, but I recommend the bacalhau à marinheiro and the francesinha. the cocktails are very good and the desserts are delicious. the restaurant is always clean and so are the bathroom and the room is organized so that customers feel in a very comfortable environment to eat. it is a perfect restaurant for birthday parties."

"We love good authentic Mexican food, and Lupita more than ticked our boxes. Tuna ceviche tostada savoury and fragrant and sweet and clean followed by excellent fish tacos for me, reportedly perfect pork panucho (sp? for herself (I don't eat meat, or I would have sampled it and an excellent avocado and leaf salad with an amazing sour mango dressing. Ther was a little plate of 3 dressing on the side too, hot, hotter and OMG! All served by a sweet bloke sorry mate, didn't get your name, but you're from South Africa, and you did us proud in pleasant surroundings, with a proper import Mexican beer. I need to remember this place for my next team night out from work, there's a table for 20+ along one wall..."

"I've been here about three times now with the family, including a wedding reception. Always a fairly stress free trip, plenty of parking and the staff are always friendly. The food is nothing short of excellent.... if you eat meat. The vegetarian options on my last visit were a risotto (I've already had it, you know what you're getting with risotto), a goats' cheese salad, vegetable ravioli and a burger. This time I ordered the burger, having seen what the meat ones look like. When it arrived I honestly thought there had been a mistake. A single slice of lettuce, a single slice of tomato and a deep fried something or other that was so oily I couldn't taste anything else. My Brother's pulled pork burger on the other hand was phenomenal. Why would I eat this when I could get better, for half the price at Wetherspoons? Really lame, really disappointed. It is not that difficult to produce quality vegetarian food. I actually felt quite upset and spent most of the meal staring at my half eaten food. Unfortunately, the next time the Nags Head is suggested I will veto it."

"Nice ambience. Lovey staff. However although the food was tasty our party of four all felt thankful that we had ordered the “Sunday roast Soaker” as apposed to the “moderate”. The ‘expected’ large soaker was a much smaller portion than we expected at £15 a plate we won’t be going back. Don’t get me wrong, what was there was very tasty served hot. If the portions were bigger we would definitely return, but as it stands we’ll head back to the Rope Anchor in Poole town centre."

"we drove along a19 and searched for a place to lunch and found it. first we were not sure that the restaurant in it is located in a residential area and saw closed. but what a surprise inside! well decorated (picked freshly renovated,) friendly staff, a good choice on the menu, eating was very good and homemade. fresh chips that were very delicious! very good value for money. we have 3 generous net parts and pay around £28! I would recommend it and be back when we are back on a19!"

"We enjoyed the stonegrill experience where you get to grill your own steak to your liking. I used to have steak served cooked but this time I never knew I would also like it uncooked. I'm surprised that it's very tasty I also had their blue cheese sauce which I really recommend it taste better with the steak. My girlfriend had a pepper sauce but she hardly tasted it as she liked the blue cheese better. Though pepper sause taste good it's just you would want the blue cheese better. We also ordered the care for sharing for a starter which is good for 2. It has chicken wings, shrimp, onion ring, buttered mushrooms and 3 dips of your choosing. Which also tasted good. For our main, we both had 14 oz rib eye steak which comes with a bowl of salad and onion rings as a side dish. This is definitely one of the place you would go for a steak."

"We called in here for a quick meal on our way back from Glan Clwyd as I have seven and a half weeks of treatment there and we decided to check out a few places on way back to Llangollen Anyway the service and food were so good (been back once so far to make sure) that we don't need look no further!! .... "Sharing dishes were perfect for our party of two. The Cassava chips were amazing. The corn ribs were a pleasant surprise, swimming in butter and paprika. I never knew halloumi was Brazilian, but it was delicious served in yogurt with cucumber and pomegranate. The cassava and buttermilk churrasco roasted chicken came with aioli and Malagueta sauce for dipping, part of the Aroma Festival. The only downside was our waitress who seemed to misunderstand us, leading to some confusion with directions. The loud dance music could also be replaced with something more appropriate and smoother."
