"I remember this place fondly as a favorite haunt, and it still holds a special place in my heart. However, I was disappointed to see that the beautiful mural on the wall had been painted over, replaced by a simple bird. The addition of a new walled garden at the front of the pub creates a nice atmosphere, but unfortunately, the recent storms have left the site in need of some repair. The prices were reasonable, and the staff were exceptionally polite and friendly, going above and beyond. It was a shame that the outdoor heating was not working during our visit, as it made for a chilly experience. Despite these minor issues, the company I was with made up for any inconveniences. It's been a while since I last visited and socialized here, and the cost of a quick pint was a bit of a shock to the wallet."

"Really nice restaurant attached to lively pub. Service very attentive, and when there was a slight mix up on the order it was rectified within seconds! Food was really good and very decent portions. "Sometimes if I am shopping in Newcastle or meeting a friend I want somewhere to go for lunch that is quick and easy. Marco Polo is an italian restaurant which fits the bill.The interior is modern and not done out in the traditional style of many italian places. I think maybe they are trying to attract the business side of the market rather than families.If you go at lunchtime the place always seems to be busy although they do have more seating upstairs. Partly this may be because they do a business lunch special which comes in at under for either soup or garlic bread and pizza or pasta. Often it is cheaper to go for this choice than to buy a pasta or pizza on its own although there are a couple of restrictions of dishes that aren't included in the deal.Staff are friendly and helpful and the place is great for a quick bite at lunchtime for a bargain price!"

"I made a reservation for a table of 7 at 7pm online. I received immediate confirmation online as well as an email to confirm our booking. However, when we arrived, the staff mentioned that they had no record of the reservation. Despite the restaurant only being half full, they were able to accommodate us. We had chosen this venue primarily for their Sunday roast, which we heard good things about and is served until 9pm. Unfortunately, when we sat down, we were informed that they had run out of Yorkshire puddings. Shortly after, they took away the Sunday menu and said it was no longer available, but we could still order from the regular menu. When my mother-in-law asked if she could swap chips for mashed potatoes with her pie, she was told that the mashed potatoes were already designated for other dishes. At this point, we decided to leave. The staff did make an effort and seemed understanding, but appeared annoyed when we left since they had already started on a few drinks. The restaurant appeared nice and had a good atmosphere, but the menu was on the pricier side. Other diners were also heard complaining about long wait times even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. Overall, we were extremely disappointed with the entire experience."

"Looks better than it is. Ambient is very summary, great art work on the walls, multi-coloured chairs. Soft lighting, light spanish/ mecxican music in the background. Also an open kitchen towards the back, so you can see them cook. Ordered a variety of dishes including: Nachos for 2, smoked chicken enchiladas, Jalapeño poppers, Chicken fajitas, Wild mushroom Quasedias and a vegetarian Chimichanga. Food ordered was either too salty, bland or just average. Basic touches you expect from a Mexican restaurant, let them down. For example, when ordering a sizzling fajita dish, firstly it didnt sizzle, secondly all the side dips were not there salsa, guacamole etc as were put into one bowl, minus the guacamole as you have to buy that separate for 7.95! Extortionate! The side rice ordered with the Chiminchanga, was either stale or cooked really early in the day and so had a weird texture. The Mushroom Quasedia, Nachos were really salty. One thing I was really disappointed about was the salsa they provided with all the dishes was Chipotle base sauce. This was quite strong, very smoky notes that is not for everyone. Should have given a choice if that was wanted. The cocktails were nice, no complaints there. The toilets were ok, with the women's one not clean. The staff were ok, majority were fine but one particular person was guessing, the manager was as miserable as they come. It took forever for them to come when required. So overall, an average experience. Not what I was expecting."

"The staff were friendly at this restaurant. They have a large screen for watching football. The restaurant itself is a bit run down, with old furniture that needs to be upgraded, and could use a fresh coat of paint in several areas. The men's toilets were dirty around 9pm, indicating a need for a thorough cleaning. I didn't dine here, possibly due to the aforementioned issues; it seems more like a pub for drinks, with cheap beer. The outdoor areas are nice. Families with children were present early in the evening and appeared to be content. The price per person ranges from £1-10."

"No record of booking on turning up, therefore no allergy on record. Staff inattentive and largely absent. We were shoved in a corner next to a wall. Forgot my half of the drink order; I asked for coffee and they brought out a cafetiere with just water in it. Food came out well into booking time, items removed (not substituted) because of my allergy even though I flagged it on my booking. Toni was great in checking in after and boxed up what we felt we couldn't eat because we had run out of time. Wasn't sure what to expect price wise because it's not clear on the website but have had much better teas for that cost. It's a shame because we hadn't been before. Is the missed booking because you take from multiple booking sources? A bit disappointing, we probably won't do it again."

"We had a disappointing experience at the Hengist tonight. Despite a birthday celebration, we were seated next to a loud table, and despite requesting a change, no alternative was provided. The food, while tasty, arrived cold, leading us to send the main course back for reheating, resulting in overcooked dishes. Challenging the service charge revealed a suboptimal response. To make matters worse, we endured explicit and inappropriate conversations from a neighboring table, and when brought to the waitress's attention, her apology fell short. Despite the restaurant's reputation, it seems they prioritise profit over a pleasant dining experience, especially during busy seasons. It's regrettable that what was once a delightful spot now appears to have sacrificed its standards for the sake of December's high demand and pricey cocktails."

"Excellent choice for all. My 2 teenagers really enjoyed their burgers but they said that the best bit of their meal was the deep fried Orios ... Amazing! As a vegetarian I was expecting the usual bean burger/lack of choice but this wasn't so. Brilliant to actually have a choice of vegetarian options which I struggled to choose from. Eventually picked the Indian burger which was delicious. Looking forward to returning for our sons birthday meal next week so I can try one of the other veggie options. "My family and I (all 30 of us) had a celebration Sunday lunch today for my Mum’s 80th birthday. We had the most delicious food that was plentiful, served promptly and hot no mean feat when there are 30 hungry mouths to feed. All the staff were friendly, supportive and went over and above to be kind and helpful. A special mention to Alex and Kieran who were patient, supportive and kind when my cousin fell ill. We are all so very grateful for all that they did for us. We would most definitely recommend the G&D Graveley and will be back soon to sample some more of their delicious cuisine. "Popped in for a drink and ended up Booking a table for dinner. So pleased we did as was fantastic. We had a dog friendly table as staying with our dog so that’s already a big thumbs up for us. Food was delicious! We chose from the small plate menu and shared- the stuffed courgette flowers were incredible and the mango cheesecake was the perfect end to a lovely dinner. "I was so looking forward to this big night out and have to say I was left very dissapointed. On arrival at the door I was handed two flyers for buy one drink get one free. This was at 1925. After struggling to find your restaurant in the darkness I was greeted by a staff member and shown to a large booth. There was a large party on a Christmas night out occupying the length of the room. It took 25 minutes for our drinks to arrive as it seemed to take 5 staff members to serve this table of 30! We were then handed our menu which compared to the online menu was reduced considerably much to our dissapointment. Your website mentions no alterations during December. We chose our food and the starters arrived relatively quickly. After our initial dissapointment at the poor service it was somewhat redeemed by a gift bag containing a Christmas card, sweets and more drinks vouchers. We ordered 3 drinks each (expensive cocktails) pleased with our vouchers that we were only paying for 3 of the 6. On trying to redeem these I was then informed the promtion finished at 1900 note I was at a 1930 dinner reservation!! Not at 2100 as advertised on the vouchers. I was then informed by the surly girl that Tiger Tiger have the right to remove or alter these promotions at any time. Nicely done legal eagle!! Overall. Totally gutted. My nice mother daughter Newcastle trip that we saved so hard for was ruined. Not even a genuine apology from anyone. I wont be back. Oh and your toilets are disgusting!!!"

"The waffles at this restaurant are absolutely amazing, they are thick and soft and incredibly delicious. They may not look exactly like the photo on the menu, but when I asked to have them topped with the fruit they had that day, it was even better. Maddy, our server, was very friendly and welcoming. I also tried the halloumi avocado burger, which had a thick slice of halloumi inside. It was so filling that I couldn't finish it, so I recommend it if you have a big appetite. A friend also suggested trying the spicy wings, so make sure to give them a try as well."

"the personal was friendly, service was good and restaurant nicely decorated. but eating was average. first thing, came on time with a booking for 8 people. kellner went into another room, clear table not ready and fast 2 tables together. a. round and a rectangular. I absolutely hate that in what tries to be presented well. order drinks. orange juice, please! asked if we want fresh or not. we decided to be fresh. then a bottle of black orange came and it says on bottle of concentrate! that's not a fresh orange juice. that is as if the appetizer is fresh apple juice. Two roast dinners. big but this is it. no greener veg that is disappointed. but then we noticed that all the other table roasted had a few brokkoli on it. fish and chips, really thick, not nice, and looks like they were fried and then fried again to heat up. the tower burger was very beautiful and large. the chips look like we're frozen in a pocket! I was here a few times, not least, and not sure whether management or cooking has changed. we usually look forward to coming back, but this time not. yes I could have asked while I was there, but the point is, I shouldn't need."
