"We went with friends for a meal, it was our first visit since it has re opened under new management. The last visit around a year ago was terrible so I was excited that it had been taken over and very much looking forward to the evening. Myself and one of our friends had the sharing fish platter which was amazing and the meals our other friends chose were also excellent however, not once did anyone bother to come and check if everything was ok or if we needed more drinks. A young member of staff eventually came over to ask if we had finished and took away half of the plates and didn’t come back, what seemed like an age later another member of staff brought a dessert menu and that was our chance to ask for another drink, we ordered our drinks and she brought the desert menus also, as we couldn’t decide what we wanted she said she would come back in about 5 minutes, she took the rest of the plates away and then didn’t come back! One of our party went to speak to the manager on duty and told him that we had really enjoyed the food but we’re not happy with the distinct lack of service and said we felt like there should be a discount on our meals. He agreed that he would give us a discount and then called some of the staff to have a word with them. After that we just got sly looks from the staff and no one bothered to come and speak to us or see if we wanted anything else. We went to ask for the bill and when another member of staff came with the card machine she was quite rude. Somebody had mentioned that there was a party of 30 in but on a number of occasions we saw groups of staff standing behind the bar just chatting. I was hopeful for a new local pub where we could go with other friends however, we will not be going there again or recommending it to anyone"

"This weekend four of us had dinner at Bank House Brasserie in Sturminster Newton. We spent a few minutes looking at the extensive menu of Tapas and failing to decide, so ordered any four different Tapas and left the choice up to the friendly and efficient staff. These could be a starter before a main course, or we could order more. The first round saw us sharing a Whole Baked Brie, Tempura Vegetables, Oriental Duck Croquettes, and Pan-Fried Prawns. They were delicious. The Brie runny enough to soak the sourdough toast, the Tempura crispy outside yet fresh within, the duck matched with hoisin sauce, and the prawns good and garlicy. The Brie was large enough to last through our decision to ask for four different Tapas. For the second round we were served Slow Roasted Pork Belly, Chorizo in red wine, Bubble and Squeak Rosti, and a Patatas Bravas. As we finished these we all looked at each other with the unspoken question, ‘Shall we have another round?’. It was answered as soon as we caught the waitresses’ attention. Round three delivered Bank House barbecue Chicken Wings, Creamy Spinach Gratin, Classic Ratatouille and Chicken Rillette. The staff did ask us about any dietary preferences before serving us, but as a table of omnivores we were happy to try whatever came along. We left the choice of these twelve different dishes entirely up to the staff, and we were glad we did. There were elements that I would never have chosen myself but ate with gusto when they arrived. A hugely varied and enjoyable meal and a great way to eat together. Though none of the dishes disappointed we did each have a favourite, and they were all different! I highly recommend the food and the informal atmosphere of the Brasserie, possibly the most enjoyable use of one of the increasing numbers of empty bank buildings on our high streets."
