"Visited for dinner with my husband, very excited as had heard so many good things about this place. Setting is lovely, pub is beautifully done and very cosy. It was very busy when we got there for our table booked at 6.30pm but that felt like a good sign. I’m not sure if the place has 2 set sitting times because when we booked there was a caveat that the table needed to be handed back by a certain time, which I can’t quite recall but on paper it felt like plenty of time. Once there however it felt very rushed, bread and starters came out at the same time which was weird and I just felt like staff were trying to hurry us along all the time. At one point I placed my knife and fork down to take a sip of drink and the loitering waitress immediately leapt on me to ask if we’d finished, even though I had half a plate of food left and my husband was clearly eating. I had heard so many good things about the food here but honestly it was only ok and very expensive for what it was I felt. Sadly we left feeling disappointed which was a shame as it is a beautiful place."

This restaurant in the countryside has charming decor and a beautiful garden terrace. The service is excellent with friendly servers. The menu offers a nice selection of upscale dishes.

Lovely cosy pub with friendly staff and excellent service! We had a roast dinner and the quality and amount of food was so good! The pub was lovely inside and the conservatory was so pleasing to see, would definitely go back!

I stayed at the restaurant for one night, it was my second visit. The staff were extremely helpful. The food was good, but unfortunately, I was unable to order something from the 3 course menu without having all 3 courses. The room was excellent, with great WIFI. I will definitely go back again. I have been a regular here for years, but I feel like the restaurant is starting to decline. The food has become quite average, the presentation is overly simplistic, and the menu is now too limited. The service is often rushed, so if you're looking for a leisurely dining experience, this may not be the best option. However, I would recommend sticking to the pizzas, as they are still delicious.

Fabulous place with wonderful staff. Booked into to stay overnight on a Monday and were delighted to find out they have a Monday offer of £22 for 3 course meal. It was superb! The food was excellent and the young staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable could do with some sockets near to the dressing table and full length mirror is always helpful but overall a really wonderful place. Highly recommend.

This was my third visit following a recommendation two years ago. Once again I found the accommodation, service and the food to be excellent. The bedrooms are spotlessly clean and well appointed. There is an excellent dining area and well stocked bar. Breakfast is beautifully cooked and presented. I would unhesitatingly recommend The Six Bells to anyone planning to stay in the area. Making a reservation for dinner in advance is essential, as it is very popular with the locals too and understandably so. I look forward to my next visit. View menu

We have eaten at this restaurant a number of times, and if I had written a review then I would have given 5 stars. However, our experience on Wednesday was not quite as I had expected. Ambience and service were excellent, but my choice of dishes left me disappointed. I choose “Salt and pepper squid” and the squid seem to have been omitted from the dish, substituted by some fried whisper thin rings. Followed by Beef Cheeks, excellent quality meat, but the other elements were not up to the restaurant’s usual standard. I see from someone else previous review they mention the cost of wine, and would agree it was too high for the wine on offer.

Although we live more than 20 miles from the Six Bell, we had recently heard some great comments about the food so we booked an early table for a Monday night … our plan was to try their Auberge Menu. Upon arrival we received an immediate welcome, and were promptly shown to our table in a warm, tastefully decorated part of the pub. The food was excellent and for me, the Pheasant was spot on .. it was a generous portion as were the accompanying selection of vegetables and it was a big thumbs up from our party of 4. My only negative comment for the evening was the pricing of wine, a little excessive for what it was! Otherwise thanks to all those on duty that evening.

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
