"Food was good but it did feel like they were pushing the overpriced drinks and specials. Special was underwhelming and to this day, no idea how much it cost. Bill at the end was definitely higher than expected for the lunch we had."

"I got my friend there for a birthday contract. The man at the reception was not very friendly. Looks like he didn't want to be there. I wanted to take a place in the reception area and bring us drinks menu. We ordered two teas. They came to our small table in the reception area without teaspoon or sugar just a little milkpot. We were then brought along the main menu we didn't want as we wanted the afternoon tea menu. He brought this and we said we wanted the afternoon tea. Then he told us we have to book this in advance! I was not given the opportunity to book any meal online. We just died to order scene. They were taken to the table at the reception to ask if we could sit in the main restaurant, what they said we could. We had to bring our pot of tea and cups etc. to the restaurant. There were only three other people there all the time. The food was okay. Scones very small for the price. It was cold, no music and no atmosphere. The staff was not over friendly and we couldn't wait to go. Will not disturb getting back what a shame is, because the attitude is very beautiful."

There were only three other people in there the whole time we were there. The food was ok. Scones very small for the price. It was cold, no music and lacked atmosphere. The staff weren’t over friendly and we couldn’t wait to leave. Won’t bother returning which is a shame as the setting is very nice."

"would be very rare here, but the barmann always seems to realize that I (ish) is not sure whether it is a shitick, but more than once he has stunned my previous order. not sure whether happiness or undiscovered savant. either the food is delicious when a bit expensive and they have a good wine list"

"Nice place and staff are friendly, but this is where the good points end. The food was very simple and tasteless. We had the lamb that was overcooked and came with the most basic accompaniments. The mash was boring, not creamy and had no hint on mustard as on the menu. The French beans were by default with the jus that add nothing to the taste. I would fight to identify everything in the boys without it being anything else. The food was served extremely fast... on our table within 5 minutes order. Clearly, the restaurants must prepare food before the service, but that was extreme. The lamb was dry and could not be qualitative as it was so tasteless. We decided to go without dessert (what I never do) because the food and service was so bad. We asked for the bill 3 times before we got it and discussed that the service fee should be removed... it wasn't deserved at all. Overall we spent little more than 30 minutes in the restaurant. We just paid to get out. I wouldn't come back and would not recommend a quick stop if you could find nowhere else."

"We had lunch at Wanderlust because it was close to where we were and we had seen that it had four stars on HappyCow, but we were disapponted and should have read the more recent reviews first. There is not a large choice of vegan food anymore and all of the vegan lunch dishes are based on mock chicken, so we had the vegan breakfast for lunch (we don‘t enjoy mock chicken). This would have been ok because a traditional Scottish breakfast can be very filling, however, the food was mediocre or even worse. It arrived after a few minutes and was clearly just warmed up. It all lacked taste and seasoning and we did not finish our meals although we still felt hungry. My husband had the lemonade which was ok. I had the peach iced tea which had almost no flavour and tasted like infused water. Moreover, the staff were not that welcoming. This place looks so cute from the outside but with so many restaurants to choose from in Edinburgh, we would not go here again. Visited in October 2023 Updated from previous review on 2023 10 19"

"I can't believe I lived in durham for four years and never visited this place. 30 years later, our day trip through the delicious eating here was not finished. I had the complete vegetarian breakfast and each aspekt of it was in front of location. perfectly cooked fried eggs, generous pieces of halloumi, beautiful toast, borons, mushroom, veggie sausage and a selection of juice all at a bargain price."

"I typically avoid restaurants that are labeled as gastro, preferring pubs to be more traditional and restaurants to be separate entities. However, The Mark Cross Inn has merged the two, functioning more as a restaurant these days. Despite my initial reservations, I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty food and enjoyable dining experience I had with a group of 8. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was family-friendly and relaxed. Some of the dishes were served in a quirky manner, such as chips in small frying baskets, which I found charming but others in my party found unnecessary. Main dishes ranged from £10-£20, with options like steak burgers and battered cod being more budget-friendly. Overall, I had a lovely meal and would recommend The Mark Cross Inn for a casual lunch or family meal."

"Oh my goodness we had such a good time here. I just wanted another pub meal but the rest of the family was tired of that food. So we ventured out. I don't even think I got our Bulgarian friends name but he took great care of us. The four us dined on the charcuterie, vegaterien risotto, linguini prawns, moules frites, and the french shepherds pie, knocked back with a couple of delicious bottles of Pinot Noir and followed up with some choco heaven and a whisky. We had a delightful evening with great service and great food. This was our last night in Edinburgh but if we're ever back we'll be eating here again."

"although the restaurant was not overcrowded, eating was delivered in the wrong order, our cots come at the same time as our main courses. the main course was very poor cod with Thai curry was cold and tasteless (an achievement to make a curry so bland! I ordered as a page, described as 'old grains', which turned out to be quinoa, why not say so on the menu? again it was cold and tasteless. the restaurant confirms itself as open to 10 o'clock, but until 9.15 the staff began to turn the air conditioning so that it was so cold we had to wake up our hunting, even if we had not finished our meal, turn off the lights and begin to clean adjacent tables and clean the floor of the kitchen area we sat near. overall the attitude was involuntary, and eating (compared to what I bought in the deli in the past was very bad. I wouldn't eat there again or recommend to others to do this."

"We were not aware that we would be charged for booking our table. This seems very unfair. We will not be booking a table again with the Mark Cross Inn. service was very slow we had to ask more than twice where our drinks were and then again had a long wait for the mains and had an even longer wait for the sweets."

"I am a regular at this cafe because it is the best in Dundee! I visit at least three times a week and it's great to have the staff remember my order. They are always friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere is fantastic, it's relaxing enough to study in but also has a lively vibe! My go-to drink is a large skinny chai (and the large drinks are huge which I love), it's the best chai I've ever had. And at less than £4 with a student discount, it's a steal! My favorite cakes are the Speculoos, Rainbow Cake, and the delicious banoffee muffins. I will definitely be coming back here every week!"

"We decided to take our chance for dinner at Ottolenghi without a reservation. We waited about 20 mins for a table for two which wasn't too long. We shared a smoky eggplant salad, ricotta stuffed zucchini flowers and the slow cooked goat on polenta. My favourite was the tender, delicious shredded goat meat; the polenta made it a hearty meal. The eggplant salad from the counter was served cold but it was still tasty. Wasn't a big fan of the zucchini flowers, I found it greasy. We ended with an apricot tart for dessert. It was a rustic homely slice but was a nice finish to the meal. Though the food was nice, I thought it was a bit on the pricey side given the petite portion sizes. Service...read more"

"Our experience at the restaurant was disappointing. The food was overcooked and it took twenty five minutes to bring a bottle of wine, with two people having to crawl into a cupboard to find it. The wine arrived after we had finished our starters. Using the toilet was a very unpleasant experience, as it was in a disgusting condition and unflushed. After quietly pointing this out to one of the chefs, they apologized and cleaned it. The waitress then informed us that it had been cleaned. We were taking my son, who is at university in Leeds, out for dinner as he loves French food. Despite the nice staff, it was a horrible evening and we would not return to this restaurant."

"Excellent restaurant for lunch with friends after visiting the Tower of London. There were 8 of us. I had reserved the table before our visit. The service was excellent. The food arrived quickly and was enjoyed by all of us. The Beetroot Burger was a big hit with those of us who tried it. Beautiful view of the Tower Bridge from our table. A great place to have a coffee, snack or meal at the Tower of London"

"We had a lovely lunch here today. The roasted vegetables with avocado and hummus roll served with a side salad was really fresh and tasty. Plenty of tea in the pot too. We had two cups each. We followed it with a delicious and clearly homemade fruit scone with just a hint of cinnamon. There was really pleasant music playing in the café and the nice thing was that it wasn't too loud. It was just right and added to the lovely, relaxed atmosphere of the place. The café is in an unassuming little building next to the children's park. This really was a lovely and unexpected find. Yesterday we had lunch at the Garnet Hill Singl End café which I was really looking forward to after seeing it on Instagram. It was a real disappointment. Today's lunch at An Clachan beat it hands down for quality, taste and atmosphere. This is a real hidden gem "
