"Words fail me.Not in a bad way. This restaurant, food and level of service from Nikki and a lovely French girl surpassed any expectations We had booked a table for lunch including my friend who has a birthday next week. We were welcomed with complimentary glasses of Kir Royale .The staff members were very attentive without being obtrusive .The restaurant itself is simple but very inviting. The food was delicious.I had ordered a starter and my friends ordered two main courses all arrived together as requested. After I ordered a dessert and my friend who has the birthday was presented with a piece of cake complete with birthday candle. My other friend was also given a dessert so she would not feel left out. When the bill arrived the cake and extra dessert were complimentary too.I am married to a chef and I felt this whole dining experience from beginning to end was just fabulous.Everything exceeded my expectations as a customer.Def recommend eating here on my next visit to Edinburgh .Well Done !"

I came for dinner with my boyfriend, who loves French cuisine and we’ve had the best meal! Absolutely delicious, perfect steak served with tasty salad many British steakhouses should take a note and move on from boring chips, loved every bite.

Service, what service? Food was good, annoying card failure meant cash only but when the staff spend time taking to and hugging other diners and ignore your requests.... when the waiter asks you to hand your plate rather than simply walking around to get it....poor and detracts from the food

Edinburgh's Old Town has an array of dining options, but Le Bistrot is certainly among the best in the area. Lunch was delicious with the fish cooked perfectly. A great range of choices on the set menu. The restaurant was packed and service busy but the staff were wonderful, attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommend! View menu

First class hospitality at this lovely French bistro in the historic area of Edinburgh. Great choice of food Gambas in an amazing sauce and a fillet steak cooked to perfection… Very difficult to decide on dessert but the chocolate sponge was so light absolutely delicious. Atmosphere is both relaxed and professional. Would highly recommend

In an elegant with an informal atmosphere in the core of the beautiful Edinburgh, my husband and I were delighted to have been twice for dinner this month. Our congratulations for the outstanding and warm service given by Alejandra, Krissi, Niki and Costas. For sure we will return to keep tasting your marvellous cuisine and excellent wines! Lovely relaxed bistro in an excellent location near the Royal Mile, both the service and food were excellent. The menu is extensive and has lots of variety. I had a goats cheese salad to start, followed by a beef ragout, both were excellent. My wife ate a country terrine and for mains, duck breast which were also very much enjoyed. We finished off with French patisserie desserts, which were delicious and beautifully rounded off a lovely meal. View menu

Cannot fault the friendly service. However the same cannot be said about the cuisine. Didn’t recognise the two dishes ordered (coquilles Saint Jacques and boeuf casserole. Saint Jacques overpowered with mustard and only two small scallops . Beef quite salty with gristle and lacking flavour. Sloppy and mushy. Side of vegetables was waterlogged. Great bottle of wine. Shame this is how French cuisine is being represented in Scotland. Love the French institute and all that it offers but really hope they can bring the restaurant up a notch.

We travelled from Newcastle for a day trip in Edinburgh for Valentine's Day and my pre 60th birthday celebrations and booked Le Bistrot for lunch, and were delighted with our restaurant selection. We received a complimentary kir cocktail which was a nice touch, the food was delicious in particular the beef stew which was a hearty portion and the special desserts for Valentine's were divine. All staff were very welcoming and attentive in particular our young Greek male waiter whose name I neglected to note, so apologies for that error, as he was very engaging and personable, he'll go a long way. The restaurant had a great ambience and had a pleasant lively feel as it was a full lunchtime sitt...
