"Nice venue and the staff friendly but the food was very disappointing. This place once had a good reputation for food but from my experience and from other reviews it seems there's a problem. 2 meals I asked for from the menu were not available. Carrot and cabbage that accompanied the mushroom pie x2 sparse and bland, the pies themselves small but tasty. Fish and chips, fish cooked without batter for gluten free but was very dry and tuff, terrible tasting cheap white fish. The all day breakfast was ok the sausages nice. The restaurant was to cold to comfortably sit and eat with your coat off. Poor vegan vegetarian choice. Poor value for money."

"Decided to try The Pack as we fancied Italian food. We have a old and so were looking for a child friendly pub/restaurant. The website suggested that it was child friendly and so I booked online, which was a really easy process and gained quick confirmation of our table booking impressed so far. We ordered drinks and were shown to our table pretty quickly. There seemed quite a number of tables but it was intimate enough so as not to feel like we were constantly overlooked. The menu offered quite a number of choices and there were a number of specials on offer too. The menu offered a selection of dishes for children, but our son really likes meatballs which was on the main menu, so I asked if it was possible to have smaller portion we were told this wasn't a problem and the cost of the child portion adjusted, which was great. Sadly, this doesn't always happen at other restaurants and the choice for children is sometimes limited, so we were really pleased that they were so accommodating. We all enjoyed what we ordered starters and mains really tasty and good portion size. Barely anything left on our plates, apart from a few scraps as we were full. happy mum, dad and child! Would recommend and definitely go again."

"our visit was a casual lunch in the bank holiday on Monday. we enjoyed a large bottle of French wine next to some of the best food I had for one. I chose the plowers with a weighty price tag. may I say it was venerable and probably worth more. also a homemade burger with a Brioche neck came and was well received. we had unusual desserts that were homemade and complex and a great finish to our meal. we were greeted at the arrival and generally very well sought. Top brands. look forward to the next time. I'm eager to go back and be a nice change like home, instead of driving too breast."

"Visited with friends for an evening meal after hearing good reviews about the place. As usual I'll get the moans out of the way first, there are only 2 but unfortunately they are both about the meal.. I thought being an Italian restaurant having calamari would be a safe bet, wrong, it was so overcooked it was like chewing elastic bands. Mains, was a king prawn dish with pasta. It came with chips, unfortunately I was that hungry, I'd eaten half of it before I realised, the actual king prawn dish was lovely, but who has an Italian dish with chips? On the plus side, the place itself is nice, clean and comfortable, the staff and nice and friendly and the service was good, not having to wait long for your meal, there was also a good selection of wines available."

"I visited this restaurant to celebrate my daughter's 40th birthday. The ambiance was fantastic, with many other guests also marking special occasions. The service was top-notch, and the staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent, although I found the portion sizes to be a bit small considering the price. For example, I ordered the duck for £20, which came with a very small side of chips. My prawn cocktail starter, priced at £9, was delicious but did not come with any bread, which was unusual based on my previous experiences. I also found the £3.50 charge for a pint of soda water with blackcurrant to be a bit steep. Despite these minor issues, we all had a wonderful evening and would highly recommend this restaurant for celebrating special occasions."

"What a great pub experience (we visited in Nov. 2023). This was the 2nd time visiting and eating at this pub. It is perfectly located for climbing Blencathra otherwise it can be considered a bit in the middle of nowhere. However, it is certainly worth a trip to as the food is gorgeous (being vegan, I'm referring to the vegan options here, but everyone looked very happy with their meals) and ales really good and change over time. The staff are super friendly, polite very efficient. We were in a camper van for the weekend and wanted to hike Blencathra for sunrise, so the pub was ideally placed for this. And, brilliantly, if you eat drink in the pub, you can use their car park to overnight for free. I would suggest booking a table in advance as it gets very busy; our table was next to a real fire, which was great with minus temperatures outside. The pub is very dog friendly, so feel free to take your 4 legged friends in the pub. The pub also offers accommodation (called the bunkhouse), which appears to get booked up, so again book in advance. Overall, with excellent food, friendly staff, a really lovely atmosphere and good beer, we had a brilliant experience here and would highly recommend it. It also makes a great place to head for if you are after a Sunday roast as this is offered every Sunday. Vegetarian options: Vegan options are available and gorgeous. Parking: It is not a big car park, you may have to park on the road. But if you eat/drink here you can stay overnight for free, which is great if you have a van."

"The restaurant was bustling at lunchtime due to the rugby international match. The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. As for the food, the pizza was generous and perfectly cooked, while the pasta with slow-cooked beef was excellent. The beer was served cold, and the espresso was just right."

"Came all the way to Louth from Lincoln to go for a birthday meal with friends.I ordered the Aubergine, which should have been charred but arrived at the table raw.The waitress replaced it with another dish, and didn't charge me for either, but the service was very slow and the food generally quite poor. The chef and owner need to visit Ole Ole at The Lawns in Lincoln to see how to do Tapas properly."

"I was very impressed by this restaurant! The old building was stunning, with a beautiful fire in the bar and lovely decor in the dining room. The atmosphere was cosy and inviting, with colourful velvet curtains, tartans, nice lighting, and a great photo wall. The menu was varied and exciting, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The veg was excellent, especially the carrot and swede mash, and the roast beef was delicious. The salmon risotto and belly pork were also fantastic. It was nice to have specials in addition to the main menu. The crumble was one of the best I've had, with perfectly cooked fruit and quality ice cream. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to return and try the soup and sandwich during the week, and the pizza cooked outdoors in the summer!"

"Just happened to stop by Fino today for an italian Sunday lunch, was absolutely delicious. We didn't book a table but were welcomed in. Our server was really lovely and friendly. The food was hot and delicious, from starter to dessert! We loved the decor and atmosphere of the old building. I love that they have further dining area upstairs which could be booked for large groups. The prices were very good to say that some chain restaurants are more expensive and not nearly as good as the authentic italian food you get here. I love that there's proper olives on the menu too! We will definitely be back. Oh and we had teenagers with us but the restaurant is little kid friendly too. Kid-friendliness: We had a table bedside us with two children and they enjoyed their food. They also have little paper aprons to protect kids clothing from pasta sauce splatter"

"Having been here many times I was very excited to be sharing a meal with far travelled friends. The experience was far from memorable other than poor. Previously warmly welcomed with the best Mac n cheese ever, I stupidly tried to re-enact my perfect evening but the dish was served in a small ramekin bowl with burnt breadcrumbs on top, tasteless, unseasoned and certainly lacked cheese flavour, gone in four fork fulls, not large fork fulls I may add… clearly chef change to a bad one! We asked to order more drinks towards the end of the meal and were refused and asked to vacate, sad as this was my favourite bar in Fort A. The Bothy however seemed to make up for it, friendly service, best Cullen Skink ever and great atmosphere. Shame on you Lock Inn."

"The Sunday roast was fantastic, with generous portions and delicious food. For vegetarians, there was a nut roast available. They also cater to dietary restrictions, offering gluten-free options. The price per person ranges from £20 to £30. I would rate the food 4 out of 5, the service 5 out of 5, and the atmosphere 3 out of 5. I highly recommend the Sunday roast!"

"We visited again on Saturday. Beautiful warm welcome from all staff, they really go out their way to you feel special. The food was great as usual. We just returned from the holiday in Italy and we did not taste better food there! Prices are very reasonable. The waiter recommended a wine that was excellent. We had some of the new 'Jubilee' cocktails to catch the evening. All in all a great place for romantic couples and families. Make sure you book in busy times, although they are usually full. We cannot recommend this place enough. Disadvantages? Back!"

"We dined here three years ago and concluded it was the best roast we've ever had. Returning felt like a gamble, as our expectations were sky-high, and we feared it might not meet those standards. However, we were once again amazed by the Sunday roast. It's truly outstanding. The meal features tender meat, perfectly roasted potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and a remarkable selection of eight different vegetables. The carrots are absolutely incredible, and the cauliflower cheese is exquisite. I couldn't recommend this place more highly!"

"My family and I visited the area for the weekend. We have a few dietary restrictions and I usually spend a lot of time searching for a good restaurant where we won't get sick. Due to arriving late, we lost our reservation, but the staff at the restaurant was very accommodating. They quickly set up a table for us (with a high chair for our little one) and even provided a quiet corner for our newborn. The food was delicious and they had plenty of gluten-free options available."

"A charming establishment, this beautiful old pub offers some of the best pub food you'll experiance. Our family has visited this place for various occasions over the years, enjoying the great food and charming atmosphere. However, on our recent visit on the 29 December 2024, we noticed a couple of issues. The steak and ale pie, ordered by two of us, was not served as hot as we would have liked. Additionally, the rear room was a bit chilly, prompting some of us to keep our coats on. Price per person: £30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Do not go here!! It’s noisy and overpriced and they sell average quality frozen fish. Worst still they hire and fire local youngsters from the island “at their whim” according to their seasonal needs by text (no less) and with a days notice. If that weren’t bad enough, those same children are then publicly humiliated and embarrassed months later when they go into collect and buy fresh fish platters that had been paid for which they have been purely sent to collect for elderly people in the village. Furthermore those children who only wanted to earn a decent wage are then banned from the restaurant. This is all factual and true whilst extremely unbelievable! Is this the kind of local business that you want to support? I do not. It’s run by a silly young girl as a manager who clearly cannot separate business from personal feelings and her parents and owners are encouraging this little princess rather than teaching her how to be a business woman. Unless there’s a local apology on Mersea locals by the manager and to the young girls and boys working there I would recommend that all locals and visitors steer clear of this morally corrupt eatery!"

"This restaurant served me the best meal of my life. We were at Eaglerock in Applecross for dinner, and I have to say the cauliflower and cheddar soup was the best I've ever tasted! It was incredibly rich and full of flavor. The duck confit practically melted in my mouth, while the sticky toffee pudding was wonderfully soft and sweet. Thank you for an unforgettable meal!"
