"We come to Maldon fairly regularly and occasionally stay over. The New Pavilion is was one of our favourite go to restaurants. We arrived at 7:30, as booked, and were very happy to see the front restaurant full except for our table for two. We ordered drinks at the bar and sat at our table. Maybe we should have been more aware of the situation when, after about 15 minutes, we had to tell the staff we were now ready to order. The young waitress was very apologetic and we said it was no problem, not her fault as she was doing two jobs waitressing and covering the bar as the barman had literally disappeared and was occasionally seen serving an old meal. Now we were waiting. 40 minutes? During this time we noticed a number of people shaking their heads at the staff. People walking out after questioning the service and the delay. The poor waitress, we could literally hear her in the back room crying. When our starters came we cancelled our main courses. My wife said my baked Camembert looked like a crème brûlée. I did eat it though and pay for it. I was not going to put the waitress through any more stress. I spoke to the barman as we were leaving and he seemed very surprised that I mentioned the overload of work the waitress was doing covering both jobs. He never said what he was doing during his absence. I did say that as he was obviously not the owner it was probably not his fault as well. All the tables in our corner agreed with what I told the bar manager and we’re about to leave without food. I will be very interested to see the owners reply and any excuse he comes up with. There’s no excuse. Get more staff. Hopefully the waitress has walked across the road to a top restaurant that treat their staff better. She was brilliant and deserved better treatment."

"We were so looking forward to trying this place out for the first time tonight Friday 10th Nov. We are very disappointed. The service was lovely. The atmosphere was great. The food was rubbish, seriously overpriced for what you get. We ordered olives and scallops for starters. The olives and bread were lovely. The scallops were slightly undercooked, a bit wet if you ask me and the linguine was too wet also. We ordered the special steak. I insisted on no fat. My steak was literally just fat. My husband’s was ok, my son and I couldn’t eat more than half. It was literally riddled with fatty tumours. Seriously disgusting. The roasted tomatoes were not roasted at all. They were just warm. I don’t know. Add a bit of olive oil and leave in the oven a little longer. The chips were fine. My husband enjoyed the chocolate mousse. My and my son’ s sticky toffee was ok but the custard is warmed up in microwave. It makes it lumpy with a thin coat on top. Not great. But most importantly the table was sticky all over. Use an actual sponge with actual soap and dry with a cloth. This is the only way it won’t be sticky! We paid £150 with no wine. We had a complimentary bottle with the steak special. We won’t go again. The food was not at all the standard it should be. Maybe it was a bad day. The place was busy but this is not for us. We like gourmet food and we thought that it was what we were going to get. If you want delicious food then this place is not the one. The manager and our waitress were lovely but that just wasn’t enough. Talk to the chef and don’t serve disgusting steak specials. Parking: We were told we had to pay for parking when we got there. That should be all over the website. So you get one hour free which means you have to leave in the middle of the meal to pay. Inconvenient for everyone. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £100+ Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Chips, Mousse Au Chocolat Parking space: Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options: Paid parking lot"

"We three gluttoneers invaded this delightful eatery to celebrate my wife 's, Angela 's birthday last Tuesday night, and it was better than great. We were welcomed into an inviting ambience of romantic lighting, light tiles and coloured walls, and shown to our favourite window table. Amidst the polite murmer of chat and laughter from diners already there, and the lovely background music, accompanied with a perfectly concocted Aperol Spritz and a Pornstar Martini, we made our selection from a varied menu, especially when you include their specials ' board. James, the proprietor extraodinaire, and the others made us feel right at home with the banter and laughter great. We soon made our selection. All three of us went for the Mango al Granchio; Nino 's do the best this side of Essex. There followed Involini Pescatrice, Saltimbocca Romana. and Linguini Gamberoni; all were faultlessly prepared and presented, and the flavour was astounding. This culinary perfection was baptised with a chilled Prosecco, and it truly woke your palate up. We then concluded this gastronomic extravaganza with a shared Apple Pie and ice cream with a surprise candle and team Nino 's singing 'Happy Birthday ' with their quirky horn wonderful. We finished off with a lemon tea, black Americano, Cappuccino, and black Sambucas plus complimentary ones from our gracious hosts grazie mille! Yet again, Nino 's have raised the benchmark in cuisine excellence, friendship, and laughter. Our compliments to the chefs in the 'hot room ' for their artistry and kind attention, and a huge 'thank you ' to all at Nino 's for an uplifting dining and birthday experience. Until the next time, keep smiling and be happy, ciao."

"Went for a birthday meal as recently moved to the area and hadn’t been for about 30 years. Well, first thing to say is that nothing seems to have changed since I last came, and it looked dated then. Decor is very tired and in desperate need of modernisation. it looks like it was last updated in the 1970‘s and hasn’t been touched since. When we arrived we were greeted by a scruffy bar area, where we waited to be seated. After a modest wait (we were told 30 mins, but it was actually a bit less) we were shown to our table. On entering the restaurant area we passed the dessert cabinet. Normally you would expect a restaurant to use this to showcase its treats. Instead the cabinet was a sad state of affairs with some sorry looking desserts in it and cartons of supermarket custard at the bottom. We were a group of four and were given a table set for seven because this was the only one available, so had to push three chairs to the end to make it feel comfortable. As for the food, I can only describe it as very disappointing. The Lasagne looked like it had been cremated and then sat around for ages, while the pizza looked like a £1 meal deal with a hint of pepperoni rather than something freshly made. Fair to say we didn’t bother with dessert. The only positive I can give Franco’s is that the service was fine and the staff were polite and attentive. But overall, it was a very disappointing experience. If I live long enough then I might go back again in another 30 years, just to see if anything has changed."

"At a recent business lunch at Brasenose, where four of us decided to try the 'one of each and lets share ' approach from the starters on the 1777 menu at lunchtime, mid week. The dishes, true reflections of the diversity of the establishment, made a good impression. The Cantonese Crispy Chicken was a pleasant surprise. Its succulent, crispy exterior paired excellently with the sweet chilli sauce. The combination of sweet and savoury notes was a real winner. For the vegetarians among us, the Triple Cheese and Tarragon Stuffed Mushrooms were a standout. The blend of cheeses and tarragon created an explosion of flavours. Served with a rocket salad and garlic oil, it was a perfect balance of taste and texture. The Beetroot Walnut pate was a revelation in plant based cuisine. The earthy notes of beetroot, the crunch of walnuts and sunflower seeds, and the creaminess pate were a match made in culinary heaven. The apple chutney provided a lovely cutting contrast. The Whitebait with lemon and tabasco mayonnaise was a delightful treat. The crispy coating revealed tender, flavoursome whitebait, and the dip added a zesty kick. We added some sweet potato and regular fries to these to make a varied and lovely mezze. A good selection of non alcoholic drinks, including beer, cider, gin and Nosecco were offered. Service was attentive yet relaxed, striking a perfect balance. The staff at Brasenose ensured our dining experience was enjoyable and hassle free. In summary, our business lunch at Brasenose, was exactly what was needed and good value for money. Each dish showcased the skill of the chefs. I wholeheartedly recommend Brasenose for a business lunch its great food, friendly service, and comfortable atmosphere."
