"I’d passed by this place many times and hardly noticed it, but de iced it was a nice sunny day for a run out, and decided to visit for a coffe and cake. The menu was tempting however, so I decided on eggs benedict with Salmon and spinach, and it’s only just occurred to me that there was no salmon!...This could be due to a misunderstanding however, as there were one or two variants...and I didn’t like to say but the eggs were both undercooked. I was hoping the second egg was spot on but no excessively runny whites everywhere. My wife had the duck hoisin panini which I tasted and it was really tasty, and plenty of it. One touch I really appreciate was being advised that the young lady who attended our table was new, and learning the job. I like to know....The place is cosy and atmospheric, with a variety of artwork and prints on display. My other niggle is I don’t like tables sprayed and cleaned whilst I’m eating...it could have waited...but the staff were thorough, and extremely welcoming and pleasant."

"Discovered this little gem whilst staying in the area for the Eurovision. Loved it so much that I came here both mornings for breakfast. I had the porridge-probably the nicest porridge I've had in a while. They give you a bowl of fruit with it too. It was perfect. So many places skimp on fruit. The menu is brilliant with lots of pancake and waffle combinations as well as hot English breakfast and gluten free options. There really is something for everyone. They also serve lunch and smoothies. You'll be spoiled for choice. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They took the time to give me tips on things to see and do during my time in the city. I felt very welcome. The place is just cute and quirky with lots of colour and an adorable courtyard with bird boxes and feeders. Great biodiversity. You really feel this is a business that cares about its community impact. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely be back."

"Now the shackles of a large pub chain have been cast off, Nick runs in my view the best local freehouse in the area. It is a welcoming village pub serving an excellent selection of local real ales at excellent prices at the time of writing £3.30 for an excellent pint of Gun Dog direct from the cellar. In winter there is a welcoming fire in the bar, and the pub serves good simple pub grub at great prices nothing fancy or pretentious, just the sort of place to pop down to if you can't be bothered to cook one evening. There is a lot going on skittles many evenings, a pub quiz even a ukulele evening on a Monday night. A great place to meet up with friends and/or locals. Sometimes there is football on the TV, but when that's not happening the TV disappears behind a purpose built cover in a very sympathetic way which transforms the bar back to a welcoming local retreat. It's so good to see the pub now as a freehouse; it's well worth a visit."

"I spent the day at the spa here with three friends, and we had lunch in Kanteen, which was lovely. We were relieved to see other guests had come here in their robes and flipflops, just as we had done! The atmosphere was relaxing and the food was great. I had the chicken burger which was huge, and the sweet potato fries were delicious.Service was prompt and the staff were polite and courteous. They weren't able to split the bill the way we wanted which was a little odd (they could only split it into equal parts and my friend had wanted to treat us to a bottle of wine, so this wasn't possible unless we all paid cash) but this wasn't a huge deal."

"I went in to buy one of their ham salad sandwiches, I have had them before and they are amazing although expensive, , I got it to take away and when I got home and opened it up I was so disappointed, it didn’t have onion which I asked for it had half a slice of ham and one small piece of lettuce it was overwhelmed with salad cream probably trying to hide the lack of ingredients, I refilled with ingredients from my own fridge and ate it."

"Came here for a light lunch. Unfortunately, inside was busy, so we sat outside. This was fine, even though it was raining, as they have an awning which sufficiently shelters the outdoor seating. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered soup, and a toastie. The soup was ham and lentil, which was tasty, warming and filling. We also had a milkshake, which was very chocolaty- perfect! A lovely place to go for a little lunch. Definitely recommended."

"We were recommended this by one of our friends who has family in the area. The place we were staying, Cardiff Arms Hotel and Bistro don't serve breakfast! So we went to this place at about 9.15am as it opened up at 9am. Sign on the door saying cash only. Good job we had some! Very deceiving from the outside as it looked quite small, but when you walk in it went right the way back and there was an upstairs space for over 18's. Two ladies were working and the place was already busy. One lady brought the menus over and said to come to the counter to order. I asked was it too early for a salad. She smiled and said everything on the menu is served from 9am. Because I have horrendous dietary need. GF, DF and coeliac it is hard to eat out. But there was a quite a lot I could have. I opted for a chicken salad. My husband went for poached eggs on toast with a sausage. The menu wasn't too long, but had a good selection to choose from. I went to the counter. Ordered our food. The lady went though all the things I could have in the salad in bowls by the counter. I pointed out 2 things I couldn't have. We sat by the window, the place was light spacious and clean. Tables not sticky or dirty. The lady came over to me again and offered more things to have as I wasn't having all the things in the chiller cabinet. Nice of her to ask, but I declined. Food turned up. An amazing bowl quite large filled to the brim with salad and chicken strips on top. The chicken was very succulent thankfully. Not dry like in a lot of places. My husbands eggs must have been free range as they had extremely orange yolks. He said they were lovely. The sausage didn't look too great, a bit insipid and he said it didn't really taste of anything. The experience was pleasant and VERY good value. The food and cappuccino came to £12....or so. If we come back to this area, we will definitely go again. Maybe for lunch next time"

"I am sat here at the moment eating one of the least fussy but incredibly tasty burgers I’ve had for a long time. This cafe is great. A real feeling of community and heart with climate change info around, leaflets for a forthcoming comedy night, a loo complete with marker pen to leave a message, and charming staff. I see lots of complaint about the cost. There is information around about careful sourcing of ingredients and it tells. For those that want to pay 50p less for something tasteless in a place completely lacking in social conscience or any atmosphere, there is a Costa opposite. Personally I think this place is doing a fantastic job. Right, now off so sample their cakes..."

"What a little gem. China cups and saucers and tea cosies on proper teapots! Lovely ambience with an interesting 40’s theme and charming staff. I was with my granddaughter and we both ordered a toastie absolutely delicious. Lovely bread and loads of filling. Everything on the menu was wholesome home cooking, and a good selection as well. I had a scone (with cream and jam) and it was gorgeous, just as if it had come straight out of the oven. Cannot recommend this place highly enough for a visit, especially on a cold, blustery day in January. There is a garden outside, so I will be back in summer to experience this lovely place in the sunshine (and I won’t mind if it doesn’t shine, as I shall just enjoy the food and the delightful staff)."

"Firstly this place is now called North Beach Coffee Bar. Both me and my wife went here the other day. We live in Seaham so walked down to check this place out. Upon arrival it was very busy outside which was no surprise as was it was a lovely day. We walked in to be greeted by a member of the team which I personally think is an excellent touch. We were seated very quickly, explained what the specials were and given menus. They do table service here so managed to order within 5-10 mins of sitting down and paying which was great. We had the rump steak ciabatta with breaded onion rings, this also came with fresh chips and blue cheese sauce. My wife doesn’t like blue cheese and they were happy to change it for mayonnaise. We also had a millionaire short bread and 2 fruit coolers (1 strawberry and a rhubarb and lemonade). The food was incredible, chips were excellent along with the steak ciabatta. Millionaire shortbread was very delicious and we enjoyed the whole experience. Drinks were also very refreshing especially on a hot day. Toilets there were 1 male and 1 female which was good. But why I highlight the toilets is that both had baby changing which as a Dad especially is brilliant as not many places do this. But also as a parent it means you can use the toilet as well. Plenty of space for pushchair and wheelchairs. It’s a lovely place where they really have spent a good time thinking about the decor and the staff really are very friendly."

"Ailsa and her team excelled when our family (three generations) had a pre booked dinner there on 27th July 2021. It was a surprise for my wife, and most of our extended family were there including a teenager and two under tens. (10 of us in total) The menu options were great and the food quality and service was first class. Everyone of the restaurant team were so friendly and they even slipped in a Birthday Card and chocolates as a wee extra (on the house). We had ordered a specially made birthday cake from a Café round the corner, (The Glen Rowan Café also a great place) which was delivered to the restaurant and they brought it through with a cake firework to the sound of Happy Birthday that the other dinners joined in with. Can 't thank you all enough. Hope business continues to thrive."

"A wonderful place to stop for lunch or a quick coffee and cake! Staff are so friendly and patient as we often changed our minds given the array of choice. I had a cherry hot chocolate and I would come again just for that! My friend said it was the best coffee she had ever had. The prices are ridiculously reasonable and there was a good selection for my veggie friend. Since going we haven't stopped talking about it and are desperate to return. Lovely little place!"

"I booked to come back here for my husbands birthday and it was absolutely gorgeous yet again. This time we had the picnic table. I had a panini and my husband had a toastie, both of them were really tasty. We also got a cup of homemade soup, yummy and a cup of salad. Then we had a scone with jam and clotted cream (delicious). We also had a chocolate brownie, a piece of rocky road and a cupcake all of which we took home as we were full but after eating them every one of them were delicious. We also had a pot of tea. The price you pay is really good for the amount of high quality products you get. Once again the staff were super friendly and remembered us for our previous visit. We will definitely be back again and highly recommend Miss Butterfingers to anyone wanting a lovely treat."

"I met up with a friend at this restaurant and we enjoyed chatting over a couple of coffees. The service was excellent and the covid precautions were top-notch. The coffee was delicious and hot. The only downside was the cafe's design, with very high octagonal ceilings, which made it feel a bit chilly due to the open doors. This may become more of an issue as winter continues."

"I visited this restaurant a couple of times while staying at Fidden Farm. The pints were great, and the food was delicious. We booked in advance and our table was ready for us. Bringing our dog along was no problem. We were fortunate to be there on a Thursday night with Callie, who was fantastic and provided a local touch to our dining experience."

"The restaurant offers delicious food and has an exceptional staff. They have options for both hearty and lighter breakfasts. I tried the Haggis for the first time and it exceeded my expectations. "I'm local but for some reason I had never gone in here. I have now been three times. The pizza is legit Italian style and the sandwiches are very tasty. They have lots of cakes and bread too I never tried them but they look very nice and at the end of the day are all gone. Good value for what you get, doesn't feel extortionate at all like a lot of places these days. Everything made fresh. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"
