"We were given the gift of a afternoon tea with gin and had the best afternoon. The food was all delicious, a gorgeous array of sandwiches and cakes. We had to take our time because there was so much to eat and we just wanted to savour all of the flavours. The best thing about the whole experience was the service, it elevated the experience to feel so much more decadent. Everyone we encountered at the hotel was very welcoming and you genuinely felt that they enjoyed their jobs, they were so friendly. Our waiter for the afternoon tea, Denilson, was great, so professional and polite. He was so friendly and attentive, he really made us feel special. A perfect afternoon and highly recommended."

"As a huge fan of Yorkshire pudding I was quite excited when I saw what was in the window, gorgeous roast meats and yorkshires. I had a Yorkshire wrap and asked for pork only. I asked for a side of roasters and a small gravy....I expected this to be served on a plate but alas not, the wrap was served in a piece of grease proof paper and the roasters in a drinks takeaway cup. We took our food upstairs, (not the cleanest) and I unwrapped the wrap, this was not only pork, in fact! The pork was negligible, it had veg in there when I had asked for meat only. I had to eat it with a knife and fork on the paper on the tray. Not the best experience. Just a glorified fast food restaurant."

"WOW the yorkshire pudding wrap was amazing, we got the Turkey Ham Yorkshire Pudding wrap with stuffing, roast potatoes, veggies, gravy and cranberry sauce. As well as the Beef Roast Dinner which came in a giant Yorkshire pudding. Wow. This was insane too! And we went on a glorious day and sat outside and enjoyed this in the sun it was all just perfect!"

"The staff at this restaurant are incredibly friendly, making for an excellent dining experience. The interactive tables also provide endless fun for children. I ordered a rib-eye steak cooked blue, which can be tricky to get right. They offered to cook it at my table, which I might try next time, but I wanted to see how they prepared it. The first attempt was still cold in the middle, but that wasn’t an issue for them. They simply placed it on the grill mat for another 30 seconds, and it turned out perfect. My daughter had a delicious waffle with speck and maple syrup, and she loved it. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I will definitely be returning."

"Initially seemed promising as bar staff were friendly and we were accommodated on a busy Sunday without a booking. Menu was limited, as was to be expected on a Sunday, but there were a couple of items unavailable, making it even more limited. We found this out after we 'd ordered said items. My partner and I ordered the 'sundried tomato linguine ', it was very basic and very bitter. There was little to no seasoning or herbs, it genuinely tasted like a tin of tomatoes had been mixed with some linguine. The 'garlic bread ' it came with was just baked bread with butter and a sprinkle of dried parsley, it had no garlic flavour at all. My partner ate his, as his sense of taste is limited, I didn 't eat mine. Staff did offer to make something else, but as I didn 't want Sunday lunch, it wasn 't really an option. Thankfully I was refunded as it was £12 and not at all worth it. Our friends ordered Sunday lunch and were very happy with their food, so if that 's what you 're after then you should be OK. Unfortunately as staff were clearing the table, one of them dropped a dirty spoon onto my friends shirt and its now stained with red cabbage. He was offered some wet tissue to get it off but I think the initial sarcastic reaction of 'oh are you going to bill me for that now? ' put him off accepting any help with it. We did see another customer having to return a dessert that was inedible, so it would seem there are a few issues in the kitchen."

"Delightful spot I always have delicious food and a very relaxing eating experience here. I’ve been meaning to write a review for a while I don’t eat here often but every time I dine here I realise what a little gem it is. They are delivering in spades what other enterprises attempt to do but often fail to realise. The food is always very tasty and nicely put together with an interesting and varied menu and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. My friend chose the lasagne but only wanted a small portion so they very kindly split it over two plates which they then also did for desert as we both were very tempted but couldn’t manage a full desert each at lunchtime. Very thoughtful, very flexible and much appreciated. Thank you so much and I’ll hope to come back here much more often!"

"We dined here yesterday on our way back from the coast, and we were truly impressed. I ordered a hot beef baguette, while my partner had the lunch gammon, and oh my, it was fantastic! The gammon was enormous and incredibly flavorful, and the meat just melted in her mouth—it was amazing! Everything tasted homemade and fresh. As we left, I remarked to my partner, "That wasn’t a bad price, was it? £28?" To which she replied, "Try £20.80!" I was genuinely shocked at how delightful the food was. I will definitely be back! The restaurant had plenty of Leeds Rhinos flags, shirts, and pictures hanging around, which as a Cas fan, I found a bit disappointing. However, the quality of the food made it worthwhile to return."

"After a long walk along the canal, I popped into the Waterwitch on Easter Sunday with the intention of just having a quick coffee. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the dishes coming out from the kitchen looked so tempting that we decided to order the Sunday roast. The food was wonderful—delicately cooked fresh vegetables, and the meat was incredibly tender. What I appreciated the most was that my roast dinner came with gluten-free Yorkshire pudding, which I had never been offered before. Even better, they could prepare the salted caramel and chocolate brownie gluten-free as well. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and one we look forward to repeating."

"As a once a year visitors our custom won't be missed but I believe in a honest review whether good, bad or indifferent.. Unfortunately I have to leave a bad review in the hope the publican takes note. This is our annual visit on the way to paying our Christmas wishes to those family members who are no longer with us and reside in local cemeteries. We have been coming to the Flying Childers for the last ten years as a tradiition on our visits to Derbyshire. We arrived only 45 minutes after opening time to order drinks and food. We chose our fayre and went to order. From our two person choices, no mulled wine (it's Christmas!! no BBQ burger, no sour dough bread and no skinny chips..We made alternative choices as one would. When are coffee arrived it wasn't hot only just warm but we didn't complain. Our meals arrived and when my partner cut her chick pea pastie in half it was still frozen in the middle. I took this meal back to the bar area for a replacement. We couldn't believe that the same cut in half pastie arrived back, apparently warmed up in a microwave and replaced on the same plate as the rest of the half eaten meal. And the salad looked like it had been scraped off the plate and same salad replaced. I would have expected a clean plate a completely fresh pastie and a replacement accompanied meal! Alas we won't be returning again"

"I went there for my birthday and was absolutely knocked away by this restaurant. If you love steak you will love the sharing 32oz trio of steaks with all the trimmings. "I am currently seated here feeling very full after enjoying the special two-course meal for £20. I started with the baby squid which was delicious. For my main course, I had the slow-cooked pork belly with mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas, red cabbage, gravy, and crackling - it was absolutely amazing. I was unable to finish it all, which is unusual for me. The customer service was excellent, especially from Charlotte and her colleague. I am visiting from Bolton and wish this restaurant was closer. I will definitely come back if I am in the area again. I highly recommend trying this restaurant for yourself - you will not be disappointed."

"Went to go for food on a mid week evening, was not greeted by anyone. Found a table and when going to the bar to order, was told “we saw you come in and the table you’re sat at is reserved (there was nothing on the table to show it was reserved)” the condescending tone and approach by the young lad slumped behind the till (not even asking what I’d like to drink) was very off-putting when I was simply taking my mother out for dinner. We both agreed we will not be coming to the pack horse again having been coming here for a number of years. Very much negative impression of the team who clearly have no passion for keeping loyal customers. UPDATE Thank you for your reply Pack Horse Owner, it is clear to me that my review was not read properly as nothing related to what day we visited. Either your staff are behaving differently to you than when in front of customers or you’re oblivious to their behaviours. Also, dining in the conservatory was not offered, in fact the staff member behind the bar (sat on a stool) made no effort to even get up to locate a suitable table. The defensive tone of your reply tells me that you don’t see that anything needs improving despite me not being the only reviewer to point out the lack of customer service for the price point of your products/services. Your reply has made it very clear to me that the staff take the lead from the management in this instance."

"Loved this place to pick up some real Cornish treats as I prepared to leave after a wonderful week touring Cornwall. Picked up some delicious Cornish pasties a steak stilton pie. Baked fresh every day so they packed them up for me in extra cling film so they last stat great for 2 days in a cool box. They didn’t survive long when I got home! The cheese pastie was delicious too. They stock the delicious Kernow chocolate range lovely Cornish biscuits perfect to take home as extra gifts Cornish treats.
