"Oh dear oh dear oh dear, I was taking some friends from Canada all around Snowdonia to see the sights and experience Welsh hospitality. Being welsh myself I am incredibly proud of my country. Sadly the cafe at the top of the horseshoe pass was closed, where I explained that I always get friendly service with plain wholesome food. It was 19.30 and sadly not many places were open on our journey back from the very North of Wales. I had passed here many times and couldn 't believe our luck that it was open.....that is where our excitement ended. I was in pain from the walking and driving to and fro, and so my friend went in to enquire if they were still serving food. we shut at 8 came the reply. So they quickly beckoned me in and order we did. To say that the middle aged female serving would turn milk sour was an understatement. We ordered plaice and chips....there were three of us. we only have 2 fish came the surly reply. Ok we will have the steak and ale pie and the 2 fish please we said. No acknowledgement, no please or thank you, so extra loudly I said Diolch yn fawr cariad hoping that she would at least give a smile if she was a fellow welsh person. Nope, not a crack. I immediately thought of a female Basil Fawlty. are you sitting here or in the restaurant part she enquired in a I wish you would go away kind of tone. So taking the initiative we moved into the restaurant area, where another group of Americans attempted their ordering.....poor things we thought. Out came the fish and chips (clearly frozen beforehand, but fair play they were cooked well and frankly cardboard would have tasted good, as we were very very hungry). The Pie....well, it was obviously again taken from the freezer. Which to be honest I get that, you cannot rely on custom so fresh would be impossible to achieve. BUT, that does not give the excuse for being miserable and downright rude. My visitors had not experienced this for the whole of our trip and have been greeted by my fellow welshmen with interest and friendly chat. I would avoid this place like the plague, I certainly will not be bringing foreign visitors again and suggest that maybe the staff attend some training on customer relations. It costs nothing to smile and be polite for me manners maketh man . No wonder the place looks run down, if you treat customers like this then word will get around. Give up now, put it up for sale and sell it to someone who is interested in making some money as I am fairly sure people would flock around if you were a little cleaner and friendlier."

Very good Sunday carvery, good choice of meats, lots of veg, properly cooked and seasoned, nice thick gravy, just like a good home made meal. 9/10

This pub is situated in beautiful countryside with great outside seating and a play area. We stopped for a drink and a plate of chips. I can only describe them as the worst ever chips and £3.50 for a little plate

Overall a very poor experience coming here for Sunday lunch. No table service for drinks so we had to queue at the bar for what must have been well over 20 minutes. The place is tired and in desperate need of renovation. The toilets were dirty and smelly, lights flickering off and on in there to complete the post-apocalyptic theme.

Revolting, rundown, dirty, could go on, oh over priced slop must not forget to mention that, as the food is a rip off. The management should hang their heads in shame! Its embarrasing and if they had any pride they would shut the doors, have a major deep clean, re decorate and restart again. Disgrace ,dont go as putting money in the owners pockets is daylight robbery.

We came across this place by accident, not being able to find somewhere in the town, so did not have the chance to be put off by others reviews. Yes, the covid restrictions are a bit OTT and I did not appreciate placing my food and drinks order through a screened off reception before sitting down. The food more than made up for this. Prawn cocktail starter was amazing and the Sunday roast to die for. Everything hot, fresh and beautifully cooked. Would go back and eat there again.

Hotel old and tired and on arrival smelt of old cooking grease/fat. Dated rooms with disgusting ‘cheap and nasty ‘ breakfast that was pre cooked and Luke warm. Tried to book taxi to go back to wedding venue to pick up car but told ‘you’ll be lucky taxi drivers had busy night last night it’s too early (9..30am) you’ll have to walk’ Disappointing end to what had been a fabulous wedding . The camp site down the road looked cleaner and more inviting.the only person that should come here is the ‘Hotel inspector’

Very disappointing, our party had taken the trouble to make a reservation for 1pm but we’re not seated until 1-40 pm. Large numbers of people who had just turned up on spec and decided to have the carvery as a bar meal were served ahead of us. When we eventually did get to sit down the meal was very disappointing, meat in the carvery was served up in very miserly proportions and the person serving it appeared to have missed his calling as a surgeon, such was his skill at carving the thinnest of slices. The whole experience gave the impression of trying to make the highest turnover possible to the detriment of the customers.

I usually avoid places where very few cars are on the car park at popular meal times, my initial thought on seeing only one car on the car park was to drive on, but having turned in and being hungry we decided to give the benefit of doubt, sadly it soon became apparent that I would have been well advised to drive on. After a long wait at a sticky table near a widow with scruffy flyblown artificial flowers on the windowsill, the food arrived, my friend found his lasagna to be passable. I ordered fish and chips, while the portion of fish was large it was dry and overcooked, the fat or oil it had been cooked in had an unpleasant taste, the chips appeared to be of the cheap and nasty frozen type...

Stopped here with my friend for a quick drink but was immediately put off my the over the top safety “measures” in place. Virtually everywhere taped off. A hostile STOP sign at the entrance. A bar shielded in a mass of Perspex, indoor seats and tables cordoned off. Makes you think there’s something wrong with the place and it health could be at risk. My friend got served and said “she’s not the friendliest”. I was called forward and smiled. “You have to wear a mask” she said. I explained I was exempt. “Where is your lanyard?” she barked. I reminded her she had to right to ask such a question and she asked what I wanted. I asked if they were serving all drinks in a plastic glass. She said yes...
