"The Abergavenny Arms in Frant is a stone’s throw from Tunbridge wells, surrounded by stunning countryside scenery. The interior boasts classic country pub vibes, with cosy décor with an elegance brought by the natural lighting on a bright day. To start we had a Selection...of Homemade Breads with Cultured Butter and Marinated Olives. The breads were like an armadillo, with the ideal crusty outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. The cultured butter was heavenly, our particular favourite was the wild garlic butter which was a lovely green in colour and beautifully fragranced. The olives were some of the biggest we had ever seen and were deliciously marinaded. The starter of Roasted Scallops, Charred Cauliflower, Pickled Golden Raisins, curried Puree, Crispy Chicken Skin, which is a bit of a mouthful to say, was the incredible. The flavours worked together perfectly, the chicken skin was a personal highlight for the dish and tied the curry flavour of the puree together with the meaty monk fish cheeks. The Roasted 2 Bone Rack of English Lamb, with a Lamb Faggot, Braised Barley with Celeriac Puree Lamb Jus seemed a strange mix. To me, the dish seemed to have a lot of components that didn’t seem to work together. The lamb itself was delicious, it was succulent and tender, perfectly pink in the middle however, the lamb faggot was overpowering in a way that ‘trumped’ the rack. The braised barley was an interesting side, but perhaps would have been better paired with a lighter meat, such as chicken or even fish. The Abergavenny Arms serves quite possibly the best steak dish I’ve tried in a long time, and there has been many! The Roasted 40 Days Aged English Sirloin, Smoked Creamed Potato, Ox Cheek Croquette with Mushroom Puree Beef Jus is, in my opinion, worth every penny. Each component in this dish added to the overall feel of ‘fine dining’ with each part being just as important as the next. The steak itself was cooked to perfection, the medium rare meat was incredibly tender, and every bite melted in the mouth. The Ox Cheek Croquette is something that could be devoured on its own, with this dish, it really was the cherry on top! When you think of fine dining, you often think of tiny portions or that you’ll need at least 10 of each to feel full, but that is not the case here at all. We ordered a couple of sides with our mains, just in case! The Smoked Bacon and Leek Crumble was superb, it was creamy and flavourful and the crumble on top added a different texture, which was very welcome to the creaminess beneath. Overall, The Abergavenny Arms is a gorgeous country pub with a menu that compliments its charm. The staff are friendly, polite, and very conversational. You are made to feel very welcome here. We enquired about the origin of the produce, particularly the meat, and were assured that all of the meat is locally sourced, which adds to the sense of locality that the venue offers."

Last night I was fortunate enough to have a delicious 2 course meal at this stunning pub restaurant and it did not disappoint! We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who immediately made us feel welcome! I had the monkfish cheeks to...start which were superb , I very quickly cleaned my plate! Next up I had the rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection. The decor is charming and all staff were incredibly friendly ! I will definitely be back for a visit soon and couldn’t recommend it more ! I would give it 10 stars if I could. Well done team x

We stopped on the way back from a trip to Tun Wells and thought we would chance a stop for a bite to eat, very glad we did indeed, as we sat down a couple of the table next to uttered the word fantastic, I...ventured to ask why, the man recommended the brisket burger as it was amazing! I have to verify that, by far the best burger I have ever had, not a poncy brioche in sight... A proper well presented burger with crispy bacon. beetroot slaw and topped off with amazing home made French fries.. we will be back, great friendly service, keep up the great work

The atmospehere was fine. Been here several times before and it's lovely. The staff are great friendly and helpful. The menu was uninspiring! The food was not great. We had breads and olives to share which was fine then the lamb chops and burger....The food was so salty it was almost inedible. It turns out there is a newish star chef in situ who is clearly in charge of anything menu related. He believes in seasoning but this was really not good. It affected the mains and the sides. The burger was less affected but still over-seasoned. We complained and the staff did their best but there was not a lot that could be done. For dessert they couldn't serve ice-cream (by itself) or do an Irish cof...

we have a really high-quality experience for Sunday dinner that happened to our 46th high-time day. my asparagus star was perfectly boiled, not over hard as often happened and not soggy, and my man enjoyed his ballotine by huhn with chicken liver parfait. We...both had after pornstars and not after the traditional roasts, although the plates past saw very good, and it again cooked nicely and the smoked fish kitchen was delicious. the paris brest dessert was nice, but I had a little bit of a fool when I saw the banan soufflé. the service was very friendly and the tempo was cozy as they were so busy but not over slow. unexpectedly we received our glasses champagner on the house as I mentioned...

we checked the butgavenny arms and we were not disappointed! what a great pub restaurant with a great British menu with a whistle. For beginners, we have tried the monchsies with charred cauliflower and crispy chicken skin if they didn't try this... before the texture is similar to the scallops with sweet taste. the buses were very good and it is a nice light starter with some strong aromes. for the main we tried the roast creedy caver duck breast, duck chipolata, fondant potato, smoked pear, duck jus, I definitiw a good choice the aromen were amazingly cooked perfectly and I especially thought the smoked birne complimented the dish the duck jus finished the dish well with a rich taste. we a...

"Honestly...one of the best pub restaurants I have ever visited! We chose to eat here as it was recommended via Alistair Sawday, and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, hygiene and service were all 5* when we visited last night. We sat inside, by candlelight, and ordered 2 starters (the Rye smoked mackerel with buttercream sauce and the heritage tomato salad and 2 mains (the beef burger with fries and the hake with toasted ciabatta and garden peas . It was truly exquisite! We both cleaned our plates (and we don't usually do that! . My only mild criticism is that I didn't realise the hake dish would include bacon lardons they certainly added to the flavour, but as an ethical pescatarian, this could have ruined the meal for me (I didn't allow it to, but 10 years ago when I was more strict it may have upset me . I may have simply missed this ingredient when reading the menu, and I didn't make the waiting staff aware of my dietary preferences, so I accept this was my fault and not theirs. It's just something for other pescatarians reading this review to be aware of. I have absolute confidence that they would prepare the hake dish without the bacon lardons if you asked. As for me....my boyfriend gleefully took them from my plate and demolished them himself! We also enjoyed a medium glass of wine each my boyfriend (who is very particular loved the tempranillo and I had their Italian pinot grigio. Our entire meal would have been less than £60, but with the current government incentive scheme to eat in, it came to less than £40!! We tipped generously as they truly deserved it. We will 100% be returning and can't advocate them enough."
