"We rode over to the Red Lion with friends. My wife is vegetarian and therefore, from the limited option, she chose macaroni cheese. At £16 plus £1.50 for bacon this seemed a bit steep but that was what she wanted (without the bacon because she’s a vegetarian). As she began to tuck into the meal she discovered pieces of meat and was somewhat distraught so we returned the meal. We were offered a glass of wine or a refund and since a glass of wine was far less than £16 dish we asked for a refund. My wife continued to feel upset about her dining experience. It wasn’t helped when a young female staff member was sent out to explain that the chef had earlier been slicing a ham and cheese toastie and probably had a piece of ham on the knife. This did not leave us feeling confident about the kitchen hygiene if utensils used to prepare meat are subsequently use to prepare vegetarian meals without appropriate cleaning. We’ve had super experiences at other local pubs. We’ve no plans to return to The Rad Lion!"

"Our lunch at The Foresters Arms was truly a 5 star experience. We were greeted warmly as we entered the comfortable and well decorated interior and quickly offered drinks and had our order taken. I was able to sample an ale before ordering which was a nice touch. There was music playing at a reasonable volume which added to the ambience, and our food arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious. We’ve tried a few pubs and restaurants in the area, and we would confidently say that The Foresters Arms is the number one recommendation to anyone looking to eat or drink around here."

"I can highly recommend Giggles. We have booked our Christmas Party here and I have to say it was the best one we had. Food was amazing!!! Our first year we had Christmas Party at East Sussex National and I have to say compare to Giggles it was awful. We will be definitely coming back. I cant recommend this place enough it was just amazing!!! Great music, best food we ever had and very lovely staff Thank you to all staff and owners. Your made it so perfect!!! Many thanks Stef"

"Honestly...one of the best pub restaurants I have ever visited! We chose to eat here as it was recommended via Alistair Sawday, and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, hygiene and service were all 5* when we visited last night. We sat inside, by candlelight, and ordered 2 starters (the Rye smoked mackerel with buttercream sauce and the heritage tomato salad and 2 mains (the beef burger with fries and the hake with toasted ciabatta and garden peas . It was truly exquisite! We both cleaned our plates (and we don't usually do that! . My only mild criticism is that I didn't realise the hake dish would include bacon lardons they certainly added to the flavour, but as an ethical pescatarian, this could have ruined the meal for me (I didn't allow it to, but 10 years ago when I was more strict it may have upset me . I may have simply missed this ingredient when reading the menu, and I didn't make the waiting staff aware of my dietary preferences, so I accept this was my fault and not theirs. It's just something for other pescatarians reading this review to be aware of. I have absolute confidence that they would prepare the hake dish without the bacon lardons if you asked. As for me....my boyfriend gleefully took them from my plate and demolished them himself! We also enjoyed a medium glass of wine each my boyfriend (who is very particular loved the tempranillo and I had their Italian pinot grigio. Our entire meal would have been less than £60, but with the current government incentive scheme to eat in, it came to less than £40!! We tipped generously as they truly deserved it. We will 100% be returning and can't advocate them enough."

"We had a family room, but the sofa bed was uncomfortable for our 10-year-old. Despite booking weeks in advance, we had to wait for it to be made up. The room had a strong smell of cleaning product deodorizer, so we had to keep the window open. We did not receive any response to two emails sent in the weeks prior to arrival. The receptionist informed us that the email address we used (from their booking confirmation email) had not been in use for around 6 years. Overall, the hotel could be a nice place, but it seems like there may be some management issues."
