"We came over for dinner as the hotel was recommended to us by a friend. We started in the conservatory where we were served drinks and some complimentary canapés. After a chat with the owner (i think he likes chatting to his guests) we sat at the table. They do have a set menu which, to be honest, looks really good so i went for it. Before the starter we were brought a complimentary peas and tarragon veloute which was really nice. For starter i ordered the liver pate on fruity bread, which, admittedly, was one of the best I've ever had. The fruity bread and the pate go really well together. As a main i ordered (sorry i forgot the exact name of the dish) meat with steamed vegetables, roasted potatoes and mushrooms sauce, which sounds really simple and plain but it was cooked just perfectly and was delicious indeed. To finish it all off i ordered the chocolate cake with coulis and cream which was really nice. So, to summarize: extremely good dinner in a really nice restaurant, yes expensive but totally worth the price, the chef clearly knows her stuff, so credit to her. Should i be in the area again, i will most definitely try it again. The hosts were also lovely people always up for a chat when they're not busy of course. The restaurant itself i think was really nice and the conservatory where we had drink even nicer. We booked a table and although the restaurant was effectively empty i suggest you book rather than turning up there unannounced."

This restaurant is a little way out of town and this may explain why it was quiet. Menu choices were limited but food was good.

David Jo are great hosts and were very accommodating for our 3 children (youngest 8). The 3 courses were all delicious particularly the venison and the portions were generous. View menu

We dined at this restaurant during our 3-night stay in Tobermory, and it was hands down the best meal we had. The dishes were filling, delicious, and expertly prepared and presented. Highly recommended.

The restaurant was small and we ate as non residents. David was helpful and friendly full of local information and an entertaining host. Generous portions cooked to order and very well prepared and presented.

Our evening started with drinks in the lounge whilst we reviewed the menu. Our host set the tone for the rest of the evening with his warm and engaging conversation and wit. The food here is excellent as is the well matched wine list. View menu

We had a wonderful experience at Highland Cottage. The room was lovely and had a beautiful 4 poster bed. The hosts, Dave and Jo, were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Jo's cooking was excellent. Thank you for a fantastic stay.

My husband and I ate at Highland Cottage in April this year while on vacation on the stunning island of Mull. The food was outstanding, but what truly made our evening special was the hospitality of the owners. They were attentive but not overbearing, had a great sense of humor, provided excellent service, and were simply lovely people. I highly recommend dining at Highland Cottage if you are ever in the area.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
