"We called here for a coffee and a snack last Saturday. Although the downstairs seating area was pleasant and the hot sandwich and coffee we ordered was good the praise stops there. The poor staff who were very friendly and polite were clearly overstretched. They obviously didn't have time to clear tables, restock sugar, napkins etc. The toilet upstairs had no toilet roll and the electric handryer did not work. The coffee and snacks don't come cheap £5 for a medium sized bacon and brie bun) so come on Barkers-help the staff out and employ another member of staff on busy market day Saturday afternoons!"

We decided to have lunch in the upstairs cafeteria after shopping in the store. My wife ordered an egg mayonnaise...

Food was average and we thought pricety for what it was. Staff were fairly attentive. Upstairs restaurant which is a bit of a nuisance if you have mobility issues.

We have visited this cafe several times now, breakfast a couple of times and also a couple of lunches. We have found it good value, good meals and better than expected! Will return again!!

We had the misfortune of going here for Sunday Lunch. It was cold, vegetables raw and not cooked, no yorkshire pudding, staff that do not know the prices, very young and in-experienced staff with service of food. Need i say more? Have never been back, a different review from my earlier review, shame.

Sometimes the food in here is great and very reasonably priced. However this is not always the case. We called in last week to have a breakfast which is usually good. This time it was awful with bacon that was rock hard, egg swimming in grease and to top it off a long hair entangled in the black pudding and cold beans! Not good!

What a joy to eat genuine home made food in a fantastic department store restaurant. Such friendly, helpful polite staff and delicious home made food. The potato and celery soup was outstanding and seasoned to perfection. Even though we arrived after 2pm, nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff to heat some more fresh soup up for myself my sister. My Mum had sandwiches salad which were excellent too.

Together with my mum we both chose to have the breakfast, and so glad we did. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Angela took our order and all requests were dealt with very efficiently. Katey on the till was also very pleasant and went out of her way to complete our meal with asking about spread or butter etc and brought them to our table very efficiently. All in all a very pleasant experience, and well worth recommending. |t is served only until 11-30 am. Together with a pot of tea or cup of coffee with toast all at only £6.25p. Well worth it. Keep up the good work.

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
