"Very disappointing! The website and the opening times on the pub door states that the pub opens at 12 noon on a Saturday. We walked 7km to get there by 1pm only to find the pub in darkness and nobody there! This is not the first time it’s happened either! Extremely disappointing. If you advertise you are open then you should be open!"

Nice local pub with friendly staff and friendly local people. Strongly recommend the fortnightly quiz nights as the quiz master is definitely one of the best and the format is excellent.

Good local for beer. We called in for a pint and something to eat but they don't serve food now. However we had good banter with the locals and the barman so would have stayed all night if we had already eaten . View menu

Not for the first time we did a 7km walk arriving at The barley mow at 12.50 only to find the pub in darkness and closed despite the fact it says on website and door sign that it opens at 12 noon. What a disappointment and not for the first time we will be avoiding this pub in future

a beautiful picturesque village pub with very friendly and pleasant staff who they feel welcome .. the service is efficient and that eating is quite expensive and nice for the price .. I would give the cute lamb and the roast to every hungry customer. and the finest Mo-Blass-Ale is very exhausting and easy to drink. great pub.

"This wasn’t our first visit (the previous occasion was more positive than this) but this was really quite poor. Problem after problem, service was poor and just not very welcoming. Firstly, drinks weren’t available issues with draft, but then bottles weren’t available either. So there was a very limited selection of drinks on offer and the staff weren’t proactive in advising what was available. So it was request and receive a no! Secondly, the food was poor. The starters were shocking. Really quite bad. There was a bit of redemption from some of the mains, but we elected to not proceed with anything else as it wasn’t great. We had to wait ages for drinks and foods to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty and many staff present. Frequently there were 3 staff at the back of the room standing about chatting, but they weren’t attentive to our needs. They didn’t check around the room to see if guests required additional drinks or require plates clearing. They didn’t check to see how the food was and when we complained regarding a starter they simply didn’t know how to handle it. When the draft beer came back on there was no proactive behaviour in returning to the table and letting us know so that more drinks could be ordered. Drinks were poured in wrong glasses, plates were cleared whilst people were still eating and then not cleared when they needed to be! Simply put the staff working had no idea on what table service should be perhaps they had received no training which is a major failing when the restaurant is part of a hotel. It was not welcoming. The restaurant was freezing cold. The service was really very poor and the food disappointing. They also don’t take dogs which in Aldeburgh is a bit weird. There is plenty of space and the tables are large so they would not be in the way. We won’t be returning."
