"Visited for my husband 's birthday, we were shown to a table in a dark corner, no menus offered. Waitress took our drinks order, waitress friendly but it appeared to be her first night. Another waitress took our food order; my husband ordered a beefburger, I ordered the seabass and a side of vegetables. No vegetables arrived and there was no checkback. I had finished my meal when the waitress reappeared, I explained I had not received the vegetables. No apology but said she had written it down and touched me on the arm in a patronising fashion. I am a customer and I dislike uninvited touch. My husband 's burger was sloppily put together and the chips were limp so he left them. Plates were just taken with no comment. We felt uncomfortable so we asked for the bill, to be fair the young man who brought the card machine asked how it was and we were honest and he apologised, but it was too little too late. We have visited previously and enjoyed the food and service immensely, but on this occasion we wish we had made a different choice. Also what has happened to the beautiful rosemary bread? We were give two dry ends of a random loaf tonight!"

I had a really enjoyable meal at this restaurant. The service was excellent, the food was simple pub fare but very well prepared. I especially recommend trying the pies.

Stopped off with family for a light bite. This is a perfect place for families and dogs ! The menu is traditional and realistically priced, with a specials menu too. The food was delicious and the service great. Would highly recommend it.

Visited the bay horse for a Sunday lunch as a stop off travelling down the A1 , easy location just off the motorway . The food was excellent , great menu choice and all the food was cooked to order The other items on the menu also looked good so we will be returning.

Called here for lunch after a walk with the dogs and couldn’t be made to feel more welcome! We had 3 dogs with us and they showed us to a table but we decided to sit outside as was lovely. We both had fish and chips and it was huge!! Beautiful fish and mega chips! Water was brought out for the dogs and table service for the drinks too. Staff lovely and friendly, would highly recommend.

Third visit this year and with friends on two of those occasions. Always a warm welcome with friendly professional staff. The pub is dog friendly with plenty space between tables for a lanky lounging Labrador! The food is excellent in quality and quantity, piping hot and well presented. We would recommend Pie of the Day a proper pie with a top and bottom and lovely light pastry. We will visit again. View menu

On our way home from a day out, we decided to take a detour off the A1M and try out this restaurant. My partner and I were pleasantly surprised by the experience. Although we usually don't indulge in 3-course meals, we were very hungry and decided to go for it. For starters, we enjoyed the goats' cheese and black pudding, followed by the main course of fish and chips and the pie of the day (lamb pie), and finished off with a delicious cheesecake to share. The only downside was that parking could be a bit difficult during busy times. The staff were friendly, and we definitely plan on returning if we are in the area again.

I discovered this hidden gem of a pub just off the A1. The menu is fantastic with a variety of options. We arrived just in time before they stopped serving food, but they were very accommodating and allowed us to order. The decor is lovely and the pub is dog friendly. The service was excellent, as they showed us to our table, took our drinks order, and promptly returned with our drinks and took our food order. The menu offers a wide range of options and we decided on the battered haddock and lamb shank, both of which were delicious and cooked perfectly. It's definitely worth a visit, especially since it's only a 10-minute drive from the A1. I highly recommend checking it out.

"all those people who leave 1 star (or low star reviews) have either extremely high expectations or just have to be out to harm the call of a gem of a sandwich shop. I stopped yesterday, was late for lunch to my surprise and joy that they were still open, was a waiting queue to eat, so I might have been happy that they thought they would do 1 more order. I had the cheese-cutney sandwich couldn't resist the Scotch egg with black pudding. the Scotch egg was phenomenal, black pudding mixed with the sausage meat, a soft egg yolk practically still runny, which I really did not expect to add only to the already large aromene, the egg comes with a small pot homemade brown sauce (ketchup is an option, but I prefer brown soße) also the soße is a normal but it is a manifestation, it is a the sandwich was ineffective, thick-cut cheese on a homemade roll with homemade chutney (I suppose when everything else was made home) filled with fresh salad, I am curious what the difference between this is the ploughman’s, as it was in the round a ploughmans sandwich. the brot, cheese salad were all fresh taste amazing, the chutney transformed it, was like a cross between chutney salsa like the brown sauce was more sweet without much flavor, but really a great amount taste to what was possibly the best sandwich I had ever had! well made youngs, eating is great a try worth. reasonably also consider that it is the center of harrogate."
