"I have visited this place a few times over the years and I always had an enjoyable meal here but unfortunately I was disappointed following my visit on Sunday. Mum and I called in for a spot of lunch, I ordered the vegetarian carbonara and mum had the Turkey Ham dinner. When the bowl of carbonara was put down in front of me it looked great, and was plentiful. However when I started eating it, the pasta was overcooked while the vegetables were undercooked and the sauce was was so runny it was more like a soup and the overall taste was bland. The two slices of toasted garlic bread were the best part of my meal. On the plus side my mum enjoyed her meal. There was a bit of confusion with our desserts, my ordered the winter berry crumble that was served with a very small pot of custard, which was cold, not sure if this was supposed to be served like this? I had to ask the waitress for my dessert (Eton Mess ice cream) that I still hadn't received, when I got it it was OK but was more like a raspberry ripple ice cream as there wasn't much meringue in it. Overall I felt the food let the place down as the staff were friendly and helpful and the bistro is a nice place but the food was bland tasting. Portion sides are large and I feel that portion sizes could be smaller with more of a focus on quality and taste, just my personal opinion. Card machine wasn't working so had to taken into the hotel reception area to pay for the meal. Would not be in a hurry back."

By far 1 of the best meals I've tasted, the rost beef with all the trimmings was superb, also a great selection of puddings

Newly refurbished. Pleasant. Average food at way over the top prices. We were a party of four and were charged extra for a spoonful of gravy. I thought this was mean.

Enjoyed portavogie scampi(good to see local produce) well presented in tortilla basket with tasty dip and salad, chips well cooked and hot. Was special on board menu, felt we made good choice. Friendly service, would recommend View menu

Had high hopes as loads of money spent on place but obviously the same chef. Panini poor. A sliver of fillings inside. Poor quality brie. The worst chips I've ever tasted. Don't know how on earth they could go so wrong. Won't be back.

Had a breakfast there after spending the night in the Hotel. It was rotten one sausage one piece of bacon, one egg mushrooms and lots of rock hard fried bread and potato bread that must have been put into a deep fat firer. The ceral selection consisted of rice crispies and all bran. The orange juice jug was empty for most of the time we was eating our breakfast. For what we paid using their hotel you would expect a much nicer break..

I went to the ivanhoe in summer 2015 and well it was average but highly overpriced so i was put off. Then i went on boxing day because i heard Liam was a chef and wow i may say the buffet he cooked was outstanding i would pay anything to have that again, unbelievably impressed, so with high expectations and being a happy customer i returned again to recieve my delicious food and found out Liam was no longer working, food was awful, dont come here youd be better off going to KFC which is across the street! ate here on way to concert and ordered 8oz sirloin steak. When waiter enquired if I wished to change the champ to another side, I asked for a side salad with no coleslaw or Mayo dressing. When the rather small almost charred steak arrived, the waiter brough a small dish with lettuce and a pile of coleslaw on top! I was shocked and stated that I had requested no coleslaw on my salad, this was replaced with a small bowl of salad; lettuce cucumber sliced tomato and dressing. No grated carrot, peppers or other standard salad ingredients. For 14.95 I think this was not good value for money. My daughters chicken was also uninteststing and bland. Such a shame the food lets this restaurant down as t...

Attended the Mothers Day Carvery on Sunday with my family and had a fantastic lunch. The selection of food was amazing with 5 courses for £23.95. There were prawns, smoked salmon and a selection of salads for starters with a choice of 2 meats served with potatoes and a selection of vegetables. A mouth watering selection of desserts was available. Tea/Coffee and cheese were available to finish this delightful meal. There was live music playing in the background. The function room was beautifully decorated with white chair covers and pink bows and fresh flowers on all tables I felt this was a special touch and made the whole experience very enjoyable. There was no rush to finish the meal and th...

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."
