"We have been in France for just over two weeks and our visit here encapsulated what I like about bistrot/brasseries. Straight forward menu, good menu formulas, red velvet banquettes! We chose the Compris version, 32.50€ for 3 courses off the a la cartel with aperitif, wine and coffee.Starters of salmon tartare, fois gras (+ 4€) very good, rognons de veaux great, piece de boeuf had no chewy bits! Potatoes wth the kidneys to die for, oil and garlic and salt! Had a plum tart which was very good and a reasonable selection of cheese to finish. Wine included was the wine of the month and good for the price.Very friendly staff, helpful although not much english. It got quite full after 8.30 but there is plenty of spaceWould go again."

We visited here in July with some friends, we were hoping for a light meal, but on ordering the duck, well done, the portion that came out could have fed a family of four, and the meat was blue. On the plus side, the wine was good as were the staff.

Right in the centre but a cut above its neighbours. Well run with friendly staff. Very comfortable and easy atmosphere. The menu is not huge, but the boeuf tartare was excellent, and the pave de saumon undercooked to perfection. We shall definitely return.

Wanted somewhere nice to eat at lunchtime with my Mother. Found this Bistrot not far from the shops. Lovely decor in fact we felt like we were in the Uk. For us this is nice as we have lived in France 30 years . The food was very good and the service very friendly. We would go there again.

Pure luck that we decided to eat here and very glad we did! Excellent meal from set lunch menu. House wine very good and a complimentary cherries in kirsch rounded off the meal with our café! We sat outside but the inside of the restaurant was very attractive. Our waiter was very helpful & bought out a map to help us explore the old part of the town. View menu

The food is really nice, the ambience good and service great...but...the menu has become very limited recently. If you're not in the mood for beef or salad, it's probably not the restaurant for you - particularly on a Saturday, when there's no plat de jour. On the other hand, my friend is convinced that they do the best salade de chevre chaud, anywhere!

This restaurant must have changed its name recently. It is now "Bouchée Double". We had an excellent lunch there, and the food was truly fresh. The service was first-class .The toilet was clean and modern and the ambiance was pleasant and comfortable. It is good value for money. The extensive menu is clearly shown with prices on three chalkboards on the wall and tips are included.

Lunch in Angoulême. Took the formule which sounded promising. Carpaccio de hure de cochon.good portion, very tasty with little side salad. As well nicely seasoned. Fresh bread. Good start... Now main course, the famous entrecôte. Being called boucher... Should be great... New cutlery arrived... Ordered rare, arrived rare.yes ! Large steak, about 300 get.very nice, very tasty. The part on its own for 9.60€ definitely high value for money. Not so much the coffee for 1.85€... Overall good experience, will come back. View menu

Back in Angouleme for a bit of retail therapy & sightseeing we ventured back to the restaurant and were not disappointed! Plat de jour was excellent (we had veal in a sauce with noodles) as was the avocado & prawn starter. We sat outside- where most of the tables were filled as were the tables inside - mainly with locals but also French visiting the area. Yes not a huge choice for lunch but the quality& quantity for less than £15- two courses with wine and coffee, left us feeling very pleased with our choice for lunch that day.

Found this restaurant by chance, we had a rendezvous to attend nearby so we're in a hurry. Both of us chose the Salmon from the main menu. It was cooked to perfection and accompanied by a delicious velvety pink seafood sauce with delightful fresh vegetables beautifully presented and cooked carefully. Olives and bread were put on the table and a lovely carafe of fresh tasting cold water. Only disappointed that we didn't have time to stay for dessert but we will be back again. The staff were friendly and helpful, they were happy to help when we explained we were in a hurry for our appointment. We sat outside and there was some traffic, so would sit closer to or inside the restaurant next time.

"I had not intended eating out as I had had a decent and large picnic. It was the weekend of the Circuit des Remparts so every where was packed. The 'Bistroc' was equally busy but I saw rognons de veau on the menu ('Carte') so I asked if they could serve me. They said there would be a long delay but I could sit at the bar and have a drink if I didn't mind waiting. As I had time on my hands I was quite content to sit with a beer reading a book. Eventually after half an hour i was approached by one of the two (I presume ) owners and asked if I had ordered. I said not and he proclaimed himself 'desolee' taking my order. 10 or 15 minutes later I was presented with a magnificent steak - I think a cote de beouf - which I would have readily tucked into. Sadly not what I had ordered. More apologies and eventually the rognons de veau arrived. Nicely cooked, no sauce but good 'frites' and salad. I completed the meal with cafe gourmand, not spectacular but perfectly acceptable. When the bill arived they did not charge me for either my beer or the wine with my meal - quite unnecessary but hey insisted. This place is an old fashioned grill with great atmosphere - aided or hindered by two children of one or both of the patron(ne)s who raced around the place chasing each other and flirting with custommers. High quality food unpretentiously cooked. although I concede not cheap.Despite being rushed off their feet the two front of house staff I assume, the owners made every possible effort to make the cusommmers welcome.A very enjoyable evening."
