"We have stayed here twice in the past month our granddaughter needed to be close to Sudbury for exams which would have meant a very early start from her home. After browsing the internet, we chose to book at the Case. If only everywhere we stayed was as good as this. The rooms are cosy and very well equipped. Comfortable beds and pillows, top quality bed linen and towels, nice toiletries, all spotlessly clean, and with all the extras which add up to a very satisfactory stay a heated towel rail in the bathroom, an electric fan for hot summer nights, a blanket for chilly nights, umbrellas, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, TV, tea and coffee tray with additional snacks, fresh milk, even a charger for your phone. There is plenty of cupboard and drawer space. To wake up to birdsong outside your window is a real treat. But the main attraction of The Case has to be the owners, Barry and Linda. Barry produces food to die for last night's arancini with beetroot chutney and little dots of fresh beetroot and salad was a dream, this morning's breakfast included freshly squeezed orange juice, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with toast made from home made bread, and a wonderful selection of local Tiptree jams and marmalades. And the coffee oh yes, the coffee! Superb. Linda is front of house and everything else. What a star. As a team, they are the most welcoming and warm couple you could imagine, and the atmosphere is that of staying with old friends and being very well cared for. They opened the dining room half an hour early for breakfast to allow plenty of time for us to get our granddaughter to her exam without hurrying. Nothing is too much trouble for them. There is a small deli with some lovely items for sale, i brought back duck pate, home made there. Our grand daughter's exams are over but we will be visiting The Case again, many times in fact. It's worth a long journey if you want to experience real hospitality. Thank you, Barry and Linda for everything you did to make our stays so enjoyable."

Lovely rooms welcoming staff and superb food. Stayed 2nights for family wedding in area. Ate in restaurant on one evening and breakfast both mornings. All meals homecooked and plentiful. Can highly recommend. Basic breakfast was enough for me but hubby upgraded for additional £5.95 to a huge plateful which he agreed was worth the supplement.

We were kindly given an upgrade on arrival, and the room was lovey with patio doors and views over fields. We decided to eat in the restaurant the first night and the food was so good, cooked by Barry, that we chose to eat in again the second evening. Very friendly owners who did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

My wife and I enjoyed lunch and dinner here before staying overnight and if one word is needed to sum up this place it would be 'charming '. The location is charming, the building is charming and all the staff are charming. Linda is a lovely hostess and instantly makes you feel at home. The facilities are spotless and the prices are very reasonable. Particular mention goes to the chef. Not only is the food absolutely delicious and exquisitely presented but it is always piping hot. Already planning a return trip and stay.

Went in on a Friday lunchtime. I had passed the place many times and was coaxed in by my wife who said she had seen good reports about the place. We went in and whilst it took some time for us to be seated, it gave me an opportunity to check the menu to see what was available. I decided on the Vegetarian Ploughman’s. When I saw on the menu that the restaurant made its own bread I was salivating at the prospect of my lunch but it was a massive disappointment. I ended up with some slices of cheese, a bread roll that had been cut into quarters (not home made) some gherkins, some dips, a breadstick and a boring salad. I was really disappointed. It would take a huge leap for me to return. Not for...

We were attending a wedding in Sudbury and my husband, daughter and son in law stayed here for just one night but honestly, we wished we could have stayed longer. The Case is just a lovely find and a cracking combination of restaurant, bar, coffee shop, restaurant and rooms. You really could not ask for more. Our rooms were spotless and well equipped, there was even an umbrella in the wardrobe! The little touches like fresh milk delivered in a flask rather than those rip top packs that splash everywhere and sachets of freshly ground coffee, were perfect. Breakfast was delicious, beautifully cooked and cleanly presented, there was simply nothing to complain about. Our hostess Linda was a scre...

I cannot understand the previous review, however, each to there own I suppose, just to confirm though the bread is actually home made as I buy all my bread from there weekly, it’s the only bread my husband can eat as it has no additives in it, it never upsets his tummy, I have even watched the owner Barry make it! I take everybody I know to eat in here have had lots of functions in the Case including my 50th, Linda caters wonderfully to all your needs during your meal the food is superb, flavoursome all made from fresh, local ingredients, the atmosphere is homely warming, I love it! Try the home made chocolate brownie.... it’s to die for! the carrot cake. Also being on a diet for most of my...

"I visited The Crown yesterday evening for my son's birthday with my other sons and my partner. We have visited many times over the year the last time was last Friday for lunch and although a little on the pricey side the...food is well cooked and presented and the service excellent. Last night was a dismal occasion. I had called in the morning to reserve a table was given a time of I asked if there were vegan options and was told that there were and explained that we were celebrating a birthday too. We arrived at and were taken to our table for drinks. we then waited minutes for our order to be taken. They were very busy with another party however had I been aware that this was going to cause issues with service I would not have booked. The service was very slow, we felt ignored as other smaller tables were served far quicker. The main meals my partner and I ordered were awful my lobster and linguine were dry and tasteless clearly had sat under a heat lamp my partners piri piri spatchcock chicken was greasy and appeared to have been deep fried with no hint of piri piri. and both meals were sent back. The vegan option for a starter was broad bean soup with a cheese crouton ! So NOT vegan. My son did choose this minus the crouton and the main was a cauliflower chop on a bed of curried chickpeas that was the vegan menu again had I know this I would not have booked but was mis informed by whoever took my phone call. Although the other meals were good and the puddings excellent sadly the cheese offering was not good i have seen the cheese platter presented beautifully on previous occasions, this time it was a mess of celery and grapes with small pieces of cheese and biscuits poking through, the whole meal concluded past when I had to chase the waitress for the bill i had not intended to spend over three hours at the restaurant. There was also a reduction of for my meal although my partners had been refunded as I had chewed my way through my half lobster. Needless to say there was no recognition of my sons birthday again in times gone by there would have been. As I said before, we have been frequent visitors to this restaurant in the past but will be trying the new restaurant in the next village now, sadly."
