"We arrived on Saturday around lunch time soon after opening. We were surprised to see many tables already occupied. The Madam asked us if we had a reservation and when we said No she tutted and told us we would have to go upstairs. We...followed up her up some wooden stairs as she stamped her way up to a second dining room that was empty. We took a table and she passed us a couple of menus saying how it was going to be really busy there. She stamped off down the stairs only to return a minute later to demand our order ! We asked for a couple more minutes to give us time to actually look through the menu and she sulked off to stamp down the stairs. A minute later a French couple arrived to take also take a table on this floor. Then a couple of minutes later she returned to take our order. The food arrived promptly and was good and tasty. We noticed the French couple were also taken aback somewhat with the brusque treatment they were getting from Madam. After she stamped off downstairs they looked across and we exchanged glances of WTF ! Anyone want to be entertained with a Forty Towers style dining experience need look no further, this is the place. After the empty main course plates were taken away it was time for the Cheese plate. Instead of a few small pieces of cheese the whole cheese board gets left on your table for you to take as much as you like and come back for more if required. This obviously includes a large amount of Neufchatel. During this delight the owner arrives to check if everything is ok. I expect he’s only too aware of the delivery style of Madam. He was convivial and charming, the complete antithesis of Madam. We told him we were pleased with everything and he sauntered back down stairs. A moment later we heard the stamping on the stairs and braced ourselves. She was back. This time to take the desert order from the French couple. The selection of deserts wasn’t on the menu but recited by Madam in a machinegun delivery that left them dazed. They chose one and she stamped off down the stairs again. A moment later it was our turn. I braced myself as she stared me straight in the eyes and rattled off the list of or six deserts. You really need your wits about you at this stage to identify something you might like from this avalanche of choices. I already knew I would not be brave enough to ask for this to be repeated. I chose one and my dining companion bottled out and asked to just have a coffee. We came to eat here because we’d heard the food was good but we had no idea we were going to have such remarkable entertainment as well. I will definitely be going back here whenever I’m next in the area. It was a truly masterful performance."

the service and welcome is fantastic, eating is ok a bit dated. reminded me of food from a Berni-Inns from which it was ok but nothing great I had the pfeffer steak (thincut) and friessauce was Abit-Brüse. very reasonable price

Arriving on a cold Saturday morning at the start of our road trip through France and Spain we were delighted to find this cute little town and even more pleased to find this cafe. My French is very limited and the owner spoke no English...but between us we sorted out much needed early morning refreshments for me and my two sons. A great little off the beaten track find.

nice eating, typical French cafe/bar/restaurant. extremely good value and very well presented. we had courses and coffee for less than euro. the parade was very friendly and welcoming. a reviewer liked the waitress to fawlty towers, we thought she was more like...Mrs overall from acorn antiques. it was hard not to laugh when you heard her to punch the stairs. that said she was beautiful and extremely polite and helpful. would have eaten again.

We went of the off chance that we could get a meal. It was lovely, we were all made to feel very welcome. We had our grand daughter with us and we all had a fab meal. The starters were substantial ! The Kir's were...super. The main courses were all excellent. The cheese board had been well kept and there was an interesting selection. We all had Creme Brulee for pud.The staff were all lovely. The food was good, basic, day to day french food and really was value for money.
