"We visited this restaurant with the intention of trying some game dishes, but unfortunately, the latest menu no longer offers these options. We started with delicious cod scampi and enjoyed the Billy pie. The pork belly was tasty, but not cooked to my preference. There were a few confusing elements in our dishes, even after we asked for clarification. The vegetable dauphinoise is not a typo and does not contain potato. The black pudding was mixed into the mashed potato, giving it a lumpy texture. Despite these issues, I would be willing to give this restaurant another try as it offers unique dishes and strives to innovate. The location is charming, situated on an old grange with a farm nearby and various other businesses. There is ample parking available and the restaurant is about a 10-minute drive from the city center."

The whole site is worth a visit. I previously used the bar; restaurant and more recently, the shop. Food is good value in the restaurant. View menu

The food was very good, and the service was fantastic. The tall blonde guy with glasses provided excellent service in particular. Would definitely come again and recommend to other people

Fantastic place to stay. Really comfortable, cosy and homely. Owners are really friendly and cannot do enough for you. Breakfast amazing and delicious. Take it from a family of 4 who have stayed 4 times now and will be more. Evening meals and Carvery also fantastic. Lovely atmosphere

The steak and ale pie was delicious, I wish my venison and rabbit casserole was bigger because I enjoyed it. I was still hungry after that but it came with half a kilo of white bread. The cheesecake dessert was a little bit disappointing. It's expensive but the atmosphere is cosy and calm, and the quality of the ingredients in our mains was good. View menu

My partners 50th birthday lunch was a big success at the Cow and Plough. There were 14 of us so we had to pre order which was fine and everything we ate was enjoyable with decent portions only the spicy linguine failed to hit the spot. Service was friendly and efficient and we did not feel rushed. The damage £500 for 2 courses each drinks excluding service. Good value we would happily go here again.

I have been coming to this restaurant for about 20 years and it has had its ups and downs. They serve typical pub food and the pizzas on the table next to me looked good. I had a coffee for £4 and then ordered the fish and chips. The food was decent, but the oil needed to be changed and the chips were oddly chunky with a strange taste. I would give this place 3 stars, but the fish was okay. The peas and tartar sauce were good though. The atmosphere was nice with fires and friendly conversations happening. The service was excellent, so thank you. They also have farm shops now, which I didn't explore, but it seems like a great place to visit for that. I am looking forward to coming back.

"I visited my daughter and son-in-law last week and on my request they had booked a table for us on black horse on Saturday night at 1 o'clock. we arrived shortly before the pm and all four of us stood in the bar where two were served. it wasn't busy. no one told us anything until the bar was clear and then one of the ladies looked at me and I said we booked a table in my name of my daughter and she saw the bookings and said oh yes, we had table assigned and pointed into another room. there was no greeting no smiling, so we met our way to the table and sat there. there were no menus on the table, so I stood up to find some and someone only made their way from the other room in the direction of our table. we ordered drinks that were in themselves a task, as they had no free or dietary limmonade, so I had to go to the end for a gin with slimline tonic. then we ordered four different meal times. I ordered a vegetarian curry in naanbrot and when it finally came, I was so disappointed because the naanbrot was burned and the curry was cold on the outside, so I asked them to take it back. the waitress asked if I wanted to order something else and I went back. my daughter then shared some of her meals with me, who were chicken pupils. they were coated in a teig that was extremely fat. the menu does not seem to come out of any meal with fresh vegetables, everything seemed to come with chips and draughts, even the Steak-Mahl came only with chips and draughts, no mushrooms, tomatoes, wobble rings or something. I wasn't impressed. for a pub that wants good reviews, I think they have lost the property. the customer service is everything and fresh vegetables is essential. I'm sorry to be the bearer worse, but we won't come back."
