"This was booked as a contract to help a friend who had a medical diagnosis that was not expected. The Crowne Plazza Hotel Reading, restaurant staff first said we have no booking and tried to show us back to the exit. We asked him to check again, he refused and said we had made a mistake and went away. We talked to the reception that had no question finding our booking that was made only today. Re confirmation of participation was made today after receiving email, asked me to do this. Booking made 3-4 days ago reception offered a free drink while something was rusted!. 30 minutes later sat on a table in a thorough farewell outside the main restaurant area. Eating was bad, served with tea in huge builder cups. No one checked the quality of food. On demand to pay bill and name of the hotel manager, restaurant-manger appeared and said he would take 20% off the bill. The fee of £25 pp, but for x 2 was calculated £40 was not a good value for money. The attitude of the restaurant staff was very unprofessional and welcoming. The restaurant and the foyer area were not busy at the time of this visit. Finally, the name and email address of the hotel manager had. Restaurant Manager is unhappy about giving me this information as I have already given you a discount Madam President! Unfortunately a very bad experience from beginning to end."

Went for afternoon tea, service awful, no scones or cream, husband went to waitrose and brought scones, cream and Jam, never asked how everything is, no apology at all. Terrible afternoon tea

mainly they go here as in the normally quiet, so can eat around us without too much lard. eating is ok, service is ok. prices ok. not for a special meal, but only a chance to eat a reasonable price.

The service was the worst service I have ever experienced in a hotel. I am not sure what was going on behind the scenes, but the restaurant team were not working well. The manager was very professional apologetic. But I will Never go back!

the worst afternoon I've ever seen. consisting of 2 tiny strawberries cut in 4 halves, 1 tiny cake cut in 2 halves, 2 small scorpions, no chocolate eclairs only 2 tiny chocolate goose, where the lower layer had come off, possibly still stuck at the lower end of the package. the sandwiches were dry and seemed as if they had made earlier and now dry both tees were cheap quality without distinctive taste. probably a review should be set up so that the public can see. crowne plaza must appeal. I would like to welcome the opportunity to discuss further.

This was not the first afternoon tea experience I was hoping to give our Ukrainian guests. We waited at the beginning because the booking apparently did not come through as an afternoon tea. When it arrived, there were cream cheese instead of tinted cream with the scones and although we after tea as well as the free coffees we were offered for the delay, this never materializes. It is a beautiful location with a beautiful view and the food was good when it arrived (except the cream), but it was a decided average experience and overpriced because this at £25 a head.

Upon arrival, we were told by the manager that there were no scones available for the afternoon tea. We asked whether there would be extra different cakes. He smiled and went away. He brought us our cups of tea and we then waited 25 minutes for the sandwiches and cakes to arrive. By which time the tea was cold so we asked for more, which arrived quickly. The sandwiches we very plain. Plain cheese, plain egg and plain ham. No additions to the sandwiches such as chutney or tomatoes or even a slice of cucumber!
