"The hotel is a charming old manor house that has been converted into a three-star hotel. It boasts an impressive entrance, a good location, and plenty of potential. We booked four rooms for two nights in the main house. In its prime, this place must have been fantastic, full of character and old-world charm. However, it currently feels a bit worn out and is in need of some repairs and tender loving care, both inside and out. The showers were hit or miss; they took a long time to warm up, and at times, the water pressure was disappointingly low. The lighting in the bedrooms could be improved, and some guests found the beds uncomfortable. Additionally, housekeeping could definitely pay more attention to detail. Despite these drawbacks, the hotel has a lot of potential and would benefit from a refurbishment that restores its original features. We've heard that it has recently been under new management, with plans to increase the number of rooms and build leisure facilities. So, there's definitely promise for the future. Even with these issues, we would consider staying here again. It's a lovely old property, the staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was both appealing and delicious. Always a pleasure to eat and stay at Ravenwood dishes are traditional and hearty. Service is excellent and the hall is always cosy with a few quirky touches.

The restaurant has a lovely ambiance, but unfortunately, some of the staff were lacking, and the afternoon tea was of very poor quality. It was also a bit unsettling to have a rooster roaming around in the dining area. Overall, I’d rate the service a 1 and the location a 5.

A very quaint historic hotel, which some will love and others may not. We did love it. The staff and service were excellent, as was the food. Rooms: Historic with wonky floors and a four poster bed, all part of the charm. Food drinks: Food was excellent. Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Romantic, Quiet View menu

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel, which has a unique charm that sets it apart from traditional accommodations. The interior is beautifully designed, and the staff are friendly and genuinely helpful. My room, although located slightly away from the main entrance of the hotel, offered a peaceful and private retreat. It was categorized as a mews room, and I truly enjoyed the tranquility it provided. Overall, I would rate the room a 5, the service a 4, and the location a 4. A key highlight of this hotel is certainly its quiet atmosphere.

This tucked away location is absolutely lovely. It has an outdoor heated pool, is quite small and very quaint! The food and service is second to none one of the very best I have received. We were served by a man called Sammi one evening and a man called Paulo and both of them were attentive, charming, funny and engaging they help make this experience even better. The grounds are lovely, sitting outside in the swinging chair under the most enormous magical tree is lovely. Whilst having a drink in the garden we saw a herd of deer and squirrels. Later in the evening a badger! This place is amazing. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5

"My father booked for Christmas Day lunch on the basis of liking the new owner's other hotel. Unfortunately, the meal was very small portions and poor quality especially for the top end price charged. The soup had large lumps of fat and rind in rather than lardons, but was otherwise ok. The Gravlax dressing was very tart. The main was terrible. A small plate and it was hardly full. Small bits of turkey, one small bit of stuffing, one small pig in a blanket, no gravy as such, hardly any veg (4 tiny sprouts, 2 small chantenay carrots and 3 half roast potatoes). I know that top end restaurants often serve small portions but they should be well presented and of high quality but the standard of this meal was more comparable to school dinner. The parsnips were missing and when I asked for them I received a plate of half raw parsnips. Talking to other guests they had the same parsnip experience. The pudding was ok but small. It was not clear if coffee was included as it was not listed on the menu. We decided to leave straight away. As we left several other guests were complaining along similar lines to us. I gather from speaking to the manager that there had been some sort of problem in the kitchen. I know that mass catering is not easy but they seem to manage well other times judging by the good reviews. The front of house staff were doing their best and I do not blame them but it was all very poor. A real shame. The meal had been paid for in advance and my father was too polite to make a fuss."

"What a fiasco. You couldn 't make it up, talk about Fawlty Towers. I stayed in room 6 this year, after specifically requesting not to stay in room 2 with it 's enormous bright green Fire Exit sign on all night. The nice young lady had some trouble letting me into room 6, the one right at the end of the block, but eventually we got in. Straight away I noticed that the original lock had been replaced and a bodge job had been done. As it was warm I left the door open for a bit. When I wanted a shower, I tried to lock the door from the inside, this proved impossible. So I went to the bar and explained and the nice young lady came back and said that her Dad would be along soon and he would have a look at it. Which he did. I returned the next evening at around 5.30, the pub garden was full, with drinkers seated around 6ft from my front door . I couldn 't get in. Again. I spent an embarrassing 5 10 mins trying, viewed by all of the drinkers outside. Eventually a nice chap offered to come and help. He too tried for ages and said the lock was utterly broken. He didn 't quite use those words though. : Then someone came out from the bar at my request and she literally had to kick the door in to gain access. All of this took place in front of the whole beer garden. On Sunday morning I tried to leave the room, I was unable to. I was locked in. As chance would have it the landlady rang me, to ask what time I wanted breakfast, on telling her of my plight she tried to gain access from outside and failed. Then another lady turned up and she climbed in through the window. Eventually, between them they got the lock open. This took some time. I wonder what would have happened if there had been a fire during the night? Perhaps I should also add that the duvet was torn, the wheel on the bed was broken, so you were sleeping at an odd angle. There was a dried blood stain on the duvet and a rip on the mattress cover. The sofa was very worn. There was black mould on the inside window and on the bath. The toilet seat had been screwed on wonky. I eventually located a wifi charger point, hidden behind the bedside table, but it didn 't work. I requested a discount, given the ridiculous situation with the lock and was offered £50 off a three night stay. Given the amount that is being charged, that was derogatory. She eventually gave me £100 off . with no apology."
