"Unfortunately, the restaurant at the Stables does not seem to be up to its previous standards. While we did not eat there on this occasion, so we cannot comment on the food quality, we were discouraged by the limited menu and seating system. The food options appeared to be reduced, and the explanation that this was due to staffing availability, while noting that the visitor center cafe had similar options, seemed unconvincing. We expect wait times and queues at popular venues and peak times, but having to wait for a table before even seeing the food options was disappointing compared to the previous system. The restaurant used to offer home-cooked meals and a variety of options, but on our recent visit, we struggled to find anything appealing on the menu. Offering most of the menu as vegetarian or "health-conscious" may not satisfy all customers. The long queues due to the lack of a proper system for waiting for tables was not something we remembered experiencing before. We were provided with menus at the door while waiting to enter the serving area, but we decided to go to The Swan with Two Nicks instead, where there was a more extensive menu available. We hope that the National Trust can bring back the Stables to its previous standard, and then we will consider returning."

Had a cornish pasty and salad with tea here. Pasty was good and meaty and looked hand made. Tea was in a tea pot with hot water and milk. This was brought to the table in a couple of mins. Enjoyed it very much.

Varied choice of dishes on menu served by really polite, helpful staff. Really clean restaurant with tables being regularly cleared and cleaned . We enjoyed a coffee each and shared two delicious cakes... Victoria sandwich and flapjack because we couldn't decide which to choose!

We had an excellent lunch, of today's special , a delicious Pea and Mint Quiche with salad and new potatoes and tea for two. The choices were good and the service excellent in a restarant area which had been cleared of probably half its usual tables, so was very comfortable and felt Covid secure.

We had a great time at the café. The interior was nice with plenty of space between tables and I loved the wood decor. I ordered the jacket potato which was delicious, especially the coleslaw. I also had a nice big pot of tea and a beautiful Victoria sponge cake. The service was good and we left feeling happy and full. View menu

Given incorrect information at the main desk and we went here for breakfast only to find breakfast was not served here but in the cafe in the building from whence we came!! Having said that, the staff in The Stables were lovely and did what they could to make up for what, in all fairness, hadn't been their mistake. What we had, whilst not breakfast was tasty and fresh and I would certainly be happy to eat in The Stables again.

I was extremely let down by my recent visit to this restaurant with a friend. We were expecting to enjoy delicious food as we had before Covid, but unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The pies we ordered were hard and stale, and the overall quality of the food was lacking. It felt like we were eating at a cafe rather than a proper restaurant. I will not be dining at Dunham again, but I would recommend bringing your own picnic if you visit. The food was not up to par and I cannot endorse dining at Dunham again.

We are regular National Trust visitors to Dunham, but sadly have to report the decline in the food standard in the restaurant. We always made a point of eating there the homemade dinners especially were good, but now it has deteriorated so much. Is nothing home made anymore? The children's sandwiches are dreadful. Tasteless Dry, stale bread(informed that non dairy spread is now used, but that's virtually non existent). Processed cheese or ham. The food is awful. Manager pleasant but probably fed up with complaints. NT do you read these reviews and can you address these issues from your customers???? View menu

We had a lovely visit to the splendid Dunham Massey this week with a good long walk before calling in at the Stables Restaurant for lunch. It was lovely and inviting, clean with measures put in place to make you feel safe in these times. The staff were pleasant. My sister, her husband and myself chose the goats cheese and caramelised onion tart. It was absolutely delicious but what a tiny portion, couldn't even describe it as a child sized portion, more like a taster. Wish I'd have taken a photo.Shame as it was good, just not enough! I would have given an excellent rating otherwise. Cake was good and needed that after such a meagre main portion!

Not able to get a sandwich and wedges to take out. Was told by Alan that takeout does not make money and I would have to go all the way back to cafe. Wheelchair user and national trust properties not good at best of times and then they put more obstacles in your way. Please reconsider this new policy of only sit down cooked meals in the stables not everyone wants such a large meal and lunch time. Was told by Alan I should have got sandwiches from cafe on way in or brought a picnic. Please cater for your customers and not what makes it easier for the restaurant manager, surely a small good quality selection of snacks would not be that hard. I feel that customer service at dunham is non existe...
