"We all have a dream to discover a real restaurant, a mixture of ambiance that is neither fake nor contrived, food that captures the essence of its source, staff that are friendly and personable and not like trained dogs, a chef that either owns the...restaurant or its his/her responsibility for consistency and art and a menu that invigorates you and shows fresh ideas or classics with something extra. So it was with a welcome surprise that while in Regensburg recently I was recommended by TA to try Federico Secondo a wonderful name that is itself a true bridge between Germany and Italy and more importantly the Italy of Puglia and Sicily. Like Frederick II, this restaurant appreciates the arts and the art of cooking. With a small kitchen that expands into the dining room proper where the assistant makes the fresh pasta, the chef is right there, working in front of you. Its his restaurant. Only after we ate, did I appreciate that all of the pastas (and I suspect the bread) is made freshly as I then proceeded to watch a wonderful display of the dough being kneaded and then pressed through a wire mesh to make No. spaghetti. I had fish fillets cooked in lemon, basil and with capers, my daughters had various pastas including sage flavoured ravioli, The single waitress looked after all of the guests some of which were regulars and who chatted with her. I read the German reviews and they were all favourable but for non-German speakers I wanted to also support their positive impressions and clearly recommend a detour to Regensburg and this small trattoria with its faded photos of Puglia, the chef and his awards and of course Federico Secondo overseeing it all."

Food was not notable. Service was not special. I would not recommend it. It was packed though, so some people liked it.

We got a recommendation to this restaurant and were very happy with it. The pasta was fresh and the sauces were very light and tasty. Would definitely go back when there in town.

What a place! Hidden on one of the small strees in Regensburg but provied one of the best italian food in town! The spaghetti with garlic scampi were a delight, the wine desert making it only better. Highly recommend it for special evenings.. like girls night out in a more fancy way.

The house-made spinach ravioli were very good. The menu read well and the intimate atmosphere was good for conversation. It is tucked away behind a few buildings, but easily found in two turns off one of the main streets. This restaurant is about good pasta...and well-prepared meats (no pizza). View menu

We were so very disappointed! Everyone in our party felt we got cheated by the unexpectedly poor quality of food. Our seafood dishes were overcooked. Rubbery shrimps and chewy octopus. Even the pasta dishes were subpar. The pasta sauce tasted like from a can. No...trace of fresh ingredients. We regret wasting our time and money here. This place is a trap. Beware

Octopus carpaccio with orange sauce, tagliatelle with porcini and black truffles, goat cheese covered with shaved truffles: these were some of the highlights of our celebratory dinner with two couples. The food was excellent, the choices of bottled wine delightful, the service attentive and the...atmosphere friendly. Neither a bargain nor overpriced, just right. Simple, homey interior, seating for people (reservations recommended look forward to a wonderful dinner! Tiramisu and a homemade chocolate cake did not stand out. I will skip dessert next time.

Little gem of a restaurant, hidden away on a quiet back street. Did not have a reservation but we managed to get a table in the small outside seating area. Food was absolutely delizioso. Started with zuppa pomodoro and avocado aurora, then we feasted on...costolette cognac, lamb chops in a mouth watering gravy, and a risotto milanese that you did not want to finish as it was so good. Service was fantastic. The woman server (who has a degree in American studies) made us feel very welcome and seemed genuinely pleased that we had visited. Regensburg has several good Italian restaurants but this one is now number one in our book. We hope to return soon with a reservation this time! View menu

I shouldn't talk and review this perl of italian cuisine, as it is that good that I have to fear that I might have problems to get a free table the next time i want to dine there. Nevermind, it is the only italian restaurant...in Regensburg with a masters cook of italian cuisine and you should defiantly not go there if you look for ordinary pizza, that you get basically everywhere. To Federico you should go, if you like fantastic Italian dishes from homemade pasta to fish and meat or very good deserts. But the best thing is there are also a daily menu with only the freshest dishes and if something is out its out, nothing frozen or prepared days ago, except maybe the Tiramisu. I read often he...

I try not to judge the book by the cover, but it was difficult to oversee the cheap plastic windows and the not so welcoming and dated interior. We were a party of four and settled for a mixed starter, two fish dishes, and two...pasta dishes as mains. The mixed starter was a little on the small side for the money, but what was on the plate was good. The pasta dishes were good, fresh pasta and tasty sauces. The fish dishes for each, overpriced. The quality of the fish was good and was cooked well, but the white wine sauce had no body and was average at best. The presentation at this price needs to be better. The fish fillets were laid flat out on the plate and swimming in the white wine sauce...
