"We visited the Ganges restaurant on a rainy Saturday night in February, as we were staying at a nearby campsite. We had made a reservation in advance and found ourselves to be the only guests in the small, yet clean restaurant. The waiter was friendly and attentive, allowing us time to choose our meals. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but they allow you to bring your own and provide glasses for you. We started with a delicious mixed starter consisting of sheek kebabs, homemade bhajis, and pakoras. For our mains, we had chicken roshuni and a house special dish, both of which were tasty and not overly spicy, allowing the flavors to shine through. While there were no dessert options, I enjoyed a coffee cream. Some reviews mention that the prices are high, but we found them to be similar to what we would pay at home. Overall, we would highly recommend the Ganges to anyone looking for a relaxed and delicious meal in the area."

We always enjoy dining at this restaurant whenever we are in Bishop's Castle. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Highly recommend a visit - well done!

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The food was tasteless and the service was slow due to them serving take away customers in preference to seated guests. I see this restaurant currently has a 1 star Food Standards Agency hygiene rating. Save your money and eat elsewhere.

Really tasty food. We liked it so much we went back the following day. The lamb was tender. We also enjoyed the onion Bhajis and other starters. It is right in the centre of town with a good view across the high street. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall we were really pleased.

Had a lovely meal here with good service. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but you're allowed to bring your own. We weren't aware of this so made do with non-alcoholic beer. Small restaurant but the niceties of the Covid regulations were followed and good spacing between the tables was well managed.

Love this place so much! Being the only vegetarian in a family of meat eaters means I usually get one or two boring options when we eat out/order in. I'd never really bothered with Indian until I tried The Ganges great food, always fresh (definitely no microwaved mush here) and so much to choose from! The staff are always friendly and polite. Well worth a visit!

We were in bishops castle for the weekend and the smell from this restaurant lured us in!! We weren't disappointed. Great value, tasty food. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and they were busy so that was appreciated. It's a very small restaurant and they tried to stick to covid rules. Was great to bring your own alcohol for no extra charge. Food was so tasty we would definitely recommend.

We live locally and generally have a takeaway and haven’t had a bad one. Garlic Chicken Tikka and Beef Madras, Sag Aloo, cauliflower bahji, pillau rice but we have tried others and not been disappointed. We have also eaten there with friends, the bonus is that the restaurant is unlicensed so you can take your own tipple (Co-op and Spar at the bottom of the High Street). True to quirky Bishops Castle form you can take a pint from the Three Tuns pub 100m away and return the glasses.

If you don't mind being watched while you eat, then this place is perfect for you. The two waiters observed every bite we took. Unfortunately, the curry lacked flavor and the naan bread was a messy disappointment. The restaurant is old-fashioned and small, with tables so close together it felt like we were dining with the couple next to us. The plates were outdated and the rice was watery. The chutney tray contained cold, watery orange sauce, chunky mango, and a whole onion. We half-expected Ant and Dec to pop out and reveal it was all a prank. I only gave it one star because there was no option for zero. The only entertainment was a local questioning an added charge to the bill due to the m...

"Thursday 19th May 2022, my husband and I woke up to a hot and sunny day, so we decided to go out for the day to visit Yarborough House Books in the Shropshire town of Bishops Castle. My husband and I strolled round this pretty town taking lots of photographs of it its interesting buildings. We worked out way up the High Street to the top where we went to visit Yarborough House Books. My husband and I entered within and we mooched round the bookshelves. I did not find anything but my husband found another volume to his Oxford History of England Series, he purchased the book on ‘The Earlier Tudors’ By J.D. Mackie for the bargain price of six pounds, so he was very pleased. Yarborough House Bookshop also has a large stock of second hand classical recordings, which comprises around 4,000 CDs, with a particular emphasis on unusual repertoire, British and 20th century music including opera. The bookshop also has a small café attached, so after mooching round my husband and I indulged in a pot of tea and a latte coffee and a flapjack for my husband. Whilst I was there I found inspiration as I wrote a poem called ‘Home of The Fairy’. My husband and I also had the luxury to meet the owner Carol who moved from London over 40 years ago to start her bookshop in Bishops Castle, she was a very pleasant and warm lady. I read her the poem I had written and she asked me to send her a copy for the Bishops Castle website, I was very touched and honoured by this. If you like books and cakes then this is a nice place to visit if you are in the area."
