"My mother and I went to this restaurant yesterday for a cocktail afternoon tea using a voucher from Wowcher. We had some difficulty booking as the phones were always busy, and when I finally got through, I had to make two phone calls to secure a reservation as they were extremely busy. In the rush, I forgot to mention our dietary requirements, which seemed to be an issue with the staff member, who I assumed was the manager, and who served us throughout the meal. We requested our afternoon tea to be pork-free for cultural reasons, and she mentioned that the food had already been prepared that morning and we should have informed her when booking so that alternatives could be arranged. She did replace the sausage rolls with extra prawn toast from another order, but we did not receive a replacement for the ham sandwiches. I was unsure why another sandwich couldn't have been made on the spot, as it would have been a simple order. We were also the only customers there at 1:30 pm on a Saturday. Our afternoon tea included egg, tuna sweetcorn, and coronation chicken sandwiches, prawn toasts, scones, jam, cream, mini strawberry milkshake, mini Eton mess, mini vanilla slice, mini eclair, and mini profiterole. It did not resemble the image on the Wowcher website. The cocktail provided was mango, gin, and lemonade, but I could not taste any gin. They only offered tea and coffee, so I settled for tap water since I do not drink them, and they were not refillable. I have never had issues getting hot chocolate as part of afternoon tea at other places. I thought the food was average, but nothing appeared to be homemade as I would have expected, such as scones and pastries. There was also not enough jam and cream for two people. We were each given two mini ice cream cones, which was a nice touch, and we could choose the flavors from a limited selection, so we both chose toffee and chocolate. I felt like using the voucher and requesting changes for dietary reasons made us feel like a burden, and this was reflected in the staff member's behavior. I do not think it is worth going back there, as I have had better afternoon tea at the neighboring restaurant."

£19.95 for 2 people amazing value. Great service very friendly. Everything well presented on a slate tray. Small portions but very sufficient. Included tea, mini milkshakes and a tasty mango gin cocktail. Took my mum for a birthday treat and we both loved it. Thanks

I had a fantastic private afternoon tea for my baby shower at this restaurant. The room was beautifully decorated, the atmosphere was lovely, the food was delicious, and the staff were very accommodating. I will definitely be returning for one of the ladies' nights in the future.

We were warmly greeted when we arrived (my mum and I) and seated at a table in the window. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely ladies serving us. Tea and coffee were served in minutes, as well as the food presented beautifully. We were offered a selection of alcoholic beverages and settled on the mango gin Prosecco cocktail! Wow, was that good!

Visiting the area with my husband and noticed this on Groupon, so glad I booked it. Disappointed to read the negative reviews, we both thought the cream tea and Buck’s Fizz was lovely and tasty. Yes portions looked smaller than picture on voucher but us 2 big adults couldn’t of eaten any more. Owner was very nice and friendly. I prefer to support local people making a go of it rather than national chain cafes. I hope this cafe is still there when we visit South Shields in future.

Then check out this amazing place for a private party for Christmas with a twist. Booked for 15 for a family Christmas get together, what can I say .. fabulous night, food was exceptional, drinks were something else.. (got to give the gin and vodka teapots a go), also the cocktails and mocktails for the kids.…fabulous. Staff had permanent smiles and nothing was too much trouble for them. Beautiful surroundings. Would not hesitate to recommend this little gem 100% Thank you Jane and the girls for a truly wonderful night.

I recently visited Ghiaccio after hearing great reviews about their afternoon tea. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. Although the ambience was decent and the staff were friendly, the food fell short of expectations. The quality was below par and it was disappointing considering our anticipation. The afternoon tea had a wide variety of options that were nicely presented, but they were all of lesser quality and none seemed freshly made. It tasted like cheap store-bought sandwich fillings, cakes, and bucks fizz. Overall, it was a letdown.

Was given a voucher for Ghiaccio as a gift, and took a friend as a 'treat '. I was mortified! The produce served up almost certainly came from a nearby cheap frozen food shop there was certainly nothing that was home baked or luxurious. The voucher cost £19.95 for the two of us, but what we were given would barely have come to a £5 in total (and that includes the Prosecco). What an out and out rip off the owners should be deeply ashamed of their profiteering. I would have given this 0 stars had that been possible, will never go back, and would not recommend this to anyone.
