"First of all I must say that my husband and I have eaten at Gordons before (on a Friday evening and last New Year 's and have been very happy with the food. The service is also fabulous. We therefore thought we would try the restaurant with non veggie friends for Sunday lunch. I had enquired a few days beforehand what the veggie Sunday dishes might be and was told possibly risotto, pasta or mushroom stroganoff. (I was hoping more for the latter as veggies tend to always get offered the other dishes when eating out . We were told the chef didn 't decide untilt the actual day which does seem strange as none of these dishes are very complicated. On the actual day there was a delicious veggie starter we chose from the buffet. However, for the main meal we were offered pasta and it was really disappointing. Whilst our friends enjoyed their carvery meals, my husband and I got some very unspecial bowls of wet and sweet tasting pasta. I just don 't understand why more thought could not also have been given to our main meal, especially as I had rung before. There are so many interesting dishes for vegetarians (veggies wellingtons, parcels, tarts, nut roasts etc so why just offer these on special days such as Christmas or New Year 's? Why not every Sunday generally? If you did, we would come to you more often. Please consider making your Sunday lunch menu (and indeed your Friday evening menu more varied for vegetarians. Thank you."

Family dinner and very average. Staff very nice, but for a restaurant that was pretty much empty the standard and pace of service was very poor. 30-40 minute waits between courses with two covers in restaurant is not great. Lots of mistakes made and reordering needed as well. Food was nice, not great for the price though. Would not hurry back.

I went to this restaurant for lunch with friends on a Tuesday and had a delicious meal. We received excellent service from Carolyn, and when she left, the Manager took over and was just as attentive. It was a shame that we were the only diners in this lovely restaurant with top-notch food. Perhaps they could consider having a lunchtime promotion to attract more customers, especially from local offices.

The restaurant was completely empty for the entire duration of our lunch and with good reason. The food is mediocre at best and extremely overpriced for what it is. In fact the highlight of the meal for me was the bread roll. It always annoys me to be charged £20 for a bottle of wine that you can buy in Tesco for £5 at least put it in a carafe if you're going to serve supermarket wine and then the customer won't feel quite so ripped off!

This is my mums favourite restaurant and an added bonus that it takes tastecard! The restaurant is nearly always empty but the fix is good quality in general. My mum had the steak which was perfect but unfortunately on this occasion my son and my burgers were very red in the middle. We sent them back and they said they were going to cook fresh ones. They came back still red in the middle and my son actually had the same burger as before as it had a chunk of off it. Bit of a shame really but will poetically visit again as good value with the tastecard.

the ship is a good, old-fashioned, robust drinker pub in the heart of croydon. thema is, as they guess, a ship, with nautical references and galeon style paraphernalia covers the walls. it is all dark wood and small alcove, old barrels are offered as tables and a rough weeksing atmosphere the ship is one of the few alternative drinking spots of croydon that plays rock and metal music from the 70s and perform live bands on Wednesday night on the small stage. Friday and Saturday evening host dj’s that turn their favorite headbanging tunes while mixing over a choice of hobgoblin or spitfire from the barrel or a very inexpensive selection of world camps....read more

This is our third Christmas Day lunch at this hotel. Our two previous visits were very enjoyable, with great food and service. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with this year's lunch. While the starter and dessert were okay, the main Christmas lunch was served lukewarm and the turkey was overcooked and tough. There were only a few vegetables served alongside big thick slices of turkey. The decorations and table settings were lovely, with good quality crackers and hats. However, this year seemed more crowded and rushed compared to our previous visits. It's a significant amount of money to spend on a subpar meal, especially since we always consider it a special treat. It's a pity that our e...

I was very disappointed with the Christmas meal served at this restaurant. The potatoes were undercooked, the sprouts and cauliflower were overcooked, and everything was swimming in gravy with no option to have it without. The vegetarian option was inedible according to the two vegetarians in our party. The restaurant was empty except for us, which should have been a warning sign. The service was overly attentive, most likely due to the lack of customers. I was disappointed with our festive meal and the dismissive response I received from the restaurant when I wrote in with my concerns. I offered constructive criticism, but was told that I should have complained at the time. The meal was qui...

My husband and I have been to the restaurant at the Ship a couple of times and have always enjoyed ourselves. The waiters are polite, friendly and professional. Thank you Israel. As my husband is a little hard of hearing, it is good to be somewhere where you can hear each other speak without having to raise your voice over loud music or other diners. Lovely environment to have a meal in. As vegetarians however, we would like to see more menu choice available for us. Vegetarians always seem to be offered pasta or risotto on menus when there is so much out there vegetable gratins, wellingtons, pies, roasts as well as the variety of vegetables on offer. As winter approaches, these type of warme...

"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"
