"Couldn't believe the most appalling treatment from the waiter over Christmas on taking my parents to a supposedly friendly atmosphere and retaraunt from the minute we walked into the restaraunt and asked a simple question of which table we could sit at and if it was self service or not! On just smiling and waving to acknowledge we were at the back of the restaraunt waiter comes up slams the menus on the table and demands to know what I'm doing...! When I tried to speak just cut me dead and so I said it was probably best to go as he was so rude to which he replied yes please go I don't want to serve people like you, then went to another table and loudly proclaimed for the whole restaraunt to hear they had better be careful with him as I had said he was rude...! So the supposed reputation of a family run business and all welcome is most certainly not true ! So if you truly wish good service go somewhere else in Weimar - there is definitely no warm welcome for everyone at this restaraunt!"

We were here for breakfast. I would recommend booking it before. You do not have the buffet Covid 19 but very friendly staff and service. You get a nice breakfast and can order everything you can eat. I highly recommend it!

The restaurant is located in a tiny street in the heart of Weimar. We found it by chance and were happy with the original food (don't expect Michelin * quality) which was surprisingly served very quickly but tasted great. It even has a special lovely corner for children.

We lived at Seifengasse 12 and ate at Gretchen's nearly every day for five months. The food was extraordinary with vegetarian entrees. I never had a bad meal there.Loved the modern but rustic decor and the children's play area which kept children from bothering adult diners. The daily lunch specials were a bargain. The staff were very sociable and we always had fun there. The food was not German and the menu quite original.

Tucked away in a side street just metres from the Goethehaus on the Frauenplan Square, this restaurant specialises in wholesome, largely vegetarian dishes. We had the dish of the day (Tagesgericht) which was great value at 7.50 euros and included a bowl of salad from the extensive salad bar. The actual dish was smoked salmon on a kind of rösti base, nicely garnished. The soft drinks are reasonably priced, and a good meal was had for a total of just 9.70 euros. Recommended.

Discovered this by accident, was intrigued by the menu: chard saffron risotto, red beet garlic salad, red lentil and cardamom soup. The latter almost had us licking our bowls. We begged for the recipe. ..Ate here twice, once was outstanding, juicy duck and tender fish; once was good, slightly drier meat, but again interesting combinations and excellent veggies. Big portions, almost too much. The wine was not as outstanding as the price had led me to expect, but apart from that it was thoroughly enjoyable. They also serve a set lunch with salad buffet, and coffee and delicious looking cake throughout the day. Check the roof terrace on sunny days.

When we first stepped in and looked at the menu, we were a little concerned, because the menu seemed quite limited. However, looking more closely, we guessed that they were really focused on vegetarian food, which, if you're like me, isn't what you expect in Germany, but we decided to go for it. The Spinach Knödel and the truffled tagliatelle were both out of this world, and paired fantastically with a sparkling Reisling. Service was attentive and friendly as well. The tiny garden seating is almost magical, with architecture that reminded me of the Alps somehow. And the quiet mostly bossa nova music in the background would make this a perfect romantic meal location.

Well, besides the place which plays in another league and which we didn't visit. But this meal was superb. We started with the Pimento's which were served with the best sauce we have ever had and delicious home-made bread. Just for this starter the restaurant is worth a detour. As second course we had Tagliatelle with wild Broccoli and Saibling with, let's say, young onion green ("Frühlingslauch"). The vegetables were again excellent, while the tagliatelle were a bit too much on the al dente side. The fish was nice, no problem. As desert we had a portion "oeufs à la neige" freshly prepared, the work in the kitchen was audible. Wines (Prosecco, Riesling, Zweigeld) were great as well and servi...

We had lunch here during the Church-day weekend at Weimar. The restaurant was quite full but we got one table luckily. They have special lunch menu which is very good value. You have a light main dish and eat-as-much-as-you-can salad bar. The waitress took our order very quickly and our food arrived shortly after that. We all had fish soup with freshly-baked bread with some garlic dip. Everything was perfect. The salad bar offers a variety of salads and they are superb too. It was also ideal for a hot day. The meal didn't look big but we were quite full afterward so we had to skip the cakes which looked very inviting. The interior is modern, the chairs are very comfortable. Even though this...
